Air to the Max. The Air Max Day pre-drinks power on at pulsating pace as Nike shoot straight fire at their small-sided collection of FootballX silos. Transformed as tributes to iconic Air Max designs ahead of Air Max Day on March 26, it's streetwear meets street football in special edition style.
As with the on-pitch Air Max Icons Collection, the FootballX series borrows Adidas Superstar Mujer Blancas visuals from four of the most heralded Air Max silhouettes and applies them to the Mercurial, Hypervenom, Magista and Tiempo. Equipped with both indoor and turf soles, the full FootballX quartet are tweaked in technology from their cleated brothers, while only the MercurialX and TiempoX have alternative aesthetics.
The MercurialX Proximo swaps Nike Air Max 2016 Damen red finishing details for blue as it takes influence from the Air Max 90, while the HypervenomX Proximo mirrors the distinctive design of the famed Nike Air Max 95 shoe. The MagistaX Proximo receives shades of Air Max 97 vibes and a Lunarlon sole for added comfort, a feature it shares with the Air Max 1 inspired TiempoX Proximo. The TiempoX is also altered Nike Air Max Thea Womens slightly from the studded edition as it dons a splash of red detailing over the on-pitch blue. Air Max month just keeps giving.
In celebration of Air Max Day, Nike is opening Sneakeasy pop-up locations in key hubs across North America next week. At these locations, Air Max enthusiasts will have access to special and limited releases, interactive displays and art installations for the line's 30th Anniversary.
Additionally, on Air Max Day (March 26), NIKEiD will launch limited-edition Nike Air Max Classic BW Femme Nike Air VaporMax and Nike Air Max 1 Flyknit options, with Sneakeasy locations across North America having first access to the builder. New York will have access on March 20, Los Angeles on March 22 and Chicago and Los Angeles on March 25.
For the VaporMax ($250), designers can color the upper and cushioning and add graphics to the lateral side of Adidas Stan Smith Dames the shoe. On the Air Max 1 Flyknit ($220), you can color the upper and midsole and add Airmoji details to the tongues.
