WORCESTER, Mass. -- A trip to Worcester resulted into another spot in the Frozen Four for top-seeded Boston College. Parker Milner stopped 33 shots for his second straight shutout and the Eagles advanced to their 10th Frozen Four in 15 years with a 4-0 win over defending NCAA champion Minnesota-Duluth on Sunday night in the Northeast Regional Final. BC, the Hockey East regular season and tourney champions, will take a 17-game winning streak into its national semifinal matchup with Minnesota, a 5-2 winner over North Dakota in the West Regional, in Tampa, Fla., on April 5. Minnesota is seeking its sixth NCAA championship, Boston College its fifth. The last two times the Eagles won the title (2008 and 2010) they passed won a regional in Worcester on their way. "Weve been fortunate in Worcester, to come out a winner more times than not," BC coach Jerry York said, with a wide smile. "My favourite place other than Watertown (his hometown)." BC also captured the NCAA title in 2001 after coming out of Worcester. Eagles senior defenceman Tommy Cross knows his teams history playing in a regional site about 40 miles from campus. "My first thought was I have to go to class Thursday, but being able to take a bus ride is so much nicer," he said. "Weve had some success here. Its been a good place for us." Ferris State and Union (N.Y.) College will play in the other national semifinal in Tampa. Pat Mullane and Bill Arnold had second-period goals for the Eagles (31-10-7). Patrick Wey added an strange unassisted goal early in the third and Johnny Gaudreau had one late. Milner was selected most outstanding player of the regional. He stopped 20 shots in BCs 2-0 win over Air Force on Saturday. It was the 16th time during its winning streak that Boston College has held an opponent to two or fewer goals. "This guys going on," Cross said at a postgame podium, nodding at Milner after being asked whats led to the teams recent run. "Hes playing unbelievable." BCs winning streak is the longest in head coach Yorks 18 seasons. "We made a couple of mistakes around our net," Minnesota-Duluth coach Scott Sandelin said. "Good teams find a way to put it in the net." Kenny Reiter stopped 20 shots for the Bulldogs (25-10-6). It was Minnesota-Duluths third time in four years reaching the regional final. Sandelin knows how good BCs been in the national spotlight lately. "Obviously it says a lot about their program. They have a great tradition. When you build that, its a culture," he said before later adding "I want to be like them." Minnesota-Duluth came out playing more physical in the second period, checking a BC player almost every time they dished off the puck, but the Eagles struck twice on the scoreboard, scoring a pair of goals 1:26 apart. Mullane gave BC a 1-0 lead at 4:01 when he charged in for a loose puck in front of the net and banged it past Reiter. About 30 seconds after Mullanes score, Milner made a solid save on Jack Connollys wrister from the slot. The Eagles then made it 2-0 when Arnold one-timed a shot by Reiter after Steven Whitneys nice pass from behind the net. BC killed off a late high-sticking penalty to Isaac MacLeod to close out the second period, setting them up for another trip to the Frozen Four. "I thought we had some good chances," Connolly said. "The goaltender stood on his head for them." The Eagles, who improved to 10-1 in NCAA play in Worcester, then made it 3-0 on a strange goal 1:13 into the final period. Wey collected a loose puck in the left circle and lofted what appeared to be a soft arcing shot on Reiter, but the netminder hardly moved and it went in over his left shoulder. Both teams had good chances in the opening period, with Minnesota-Duluth getting its best scoring bid while short-handed. The Bulldogs collected a loose puck near their own blue line and David Grun carried the puck into the BC zone on a 3-on-1 break. He fed a cross-ice pass to Chris Casto, who fired over an open net with Milner sliding over from the opposite post. Midway into the period, Mike Seidel was stopped in close and Milner dropped to make a pad save on Connollys rebound bid with a backhander. The Eagles best opportunity came with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first when Bill Arnold collected a long pass, broke in alone, shifted to his backhand, but Reiter reached back with his right leg to make a save just before the puck got behind him. WEST REGIONAL MINNESOTA 5, NORTH DAKOTA 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota learned its lesson. The Gophers werent going to let another three-goal lead slip away. Erik Haula scored his 20th goal of the season, Taylor Matson added a goal and assist and No. 2 seed Minnesota beat top-seed North Dakota 5-2 to win the NCAA West Regional on Sunday. Ben Marshall, Travis Boyd and Nate Condon also scored for Minnesota (28-13-1), which advanced to the Frozen Four for the first time since 2005. Kent Patterson made 24 saves for the Gophers, who will play top-seeded Boston College in the Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla., from April 5-7. Ferris State and Union (N.Y.) College will face each other in the other national semifinal. "Youve got to win," Minnesota coach Don Lucia said. "Nobodys going to give it to you. Youve got to go play to win and tonight they did. And they have most of the year in that situation." The Gophers held on to their three-goal lead, something they werent able to do a week earlier against UND in the WCHA playoffs. After winning the regular-season title, Minnesota faced North Dakota in the WCHA semifinals last weekend and held a 3-0 lead after dominating the first 30 minutes. But UND scored six straight times, including five in the third period, to beat the Gophers and went on to win the tournament with a 4-0 win against Denver the next day. "We kind of wanted to get that last game out of our system against North Dakota," Matson said. "When were facing North Dakota, if you cant get up for that game, you cant get up for any game. The bench was great all night. We were motivating guys on the bench and everyone was excited." Haula, Matson and Boyd all scored in the second period for Minnesota, which outshot UND 12-2 in the second. Danny Kristo and Mario Lamoreaux scored for North Dakota (26-13-3), which was 11-2 in NCAA regional games entering Sunday. Aaron Dell finished with 19 saves in goal for UND, which believed it could rally even when trailing by three late in the third. After all, North Dakota had done it just a week earlier. "I thought we needed to get one," UND coach Dave Hakstol said. "Whether or not we could have rattled them at all, I dont know. I dont know what we had for shots on goal in the third period, but I know we had some great opportunities." Patterson stopped 14 shots in the third as North Dakota outshot the Gophers 15-4 in the final period. Patterson went on to win Most Outstanding Player in the region after stopping 55 of the 60 shots he faced in two games. ------ Cheap Manchester United Jerseys . Suspended three games by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for his alleged role in the New Orleans bounty scandal, Fujita expressed confidence that hell play in Clevelands season opener on Sept. 9 against Philadelphia. "Im optimistic about playing in Week 1," he said. Fujita was one of four players punished by Goodell for contributing to the pay-for-hits program that rocked the league. The 33-year-old returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since hurting his left knee in the Aug. 10 exhibition opener against Detroit. Following the workout on a bright, nearly cloudless day, Fujita said he "has a lot" of optimism about his suspension being reduced or delayed. Fujita declined to give many details for his positive outlook other than saying he was encouraged by U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigans recent statements regarding suspended Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilmas request for a temporary restraining order to block the bounty sanctions. The judge has said that if she can clear up concerns about her jurisdiction, she would likely grant Vilma the TRO because she found the NFLs disciplinary process in the bounty matter unfair and the punishment excessive. The four suspended players are hoping to get the order to put the suspensions on hold. They feel they should be allowed to argue in court that Goodell overstepped his jurisdiction in handing down punishment against the Saints without showing any evidence. Vilma was suspended for the entire 2012 season, and Saints defensive end Will Smith is banned for the first four regular-season games. Former Saints defensive end Anthony Hargrove, now with Green Bay, was penalized eight games. The players and their attorneys believe the suspensions could cause them irreparable harm, possible grounds for a judge to grant a restraining order putting the suspensions on hold until its decided if the commissioner acted properly. An appeal hearing is scheduled for Thursday in New York. That hearing is occurring under a process laid out by the collective bargaining agreement. Berrigan has indicated that she wouuld feel more comfortable about her jurisdiction after the appeal process under the leagues labour agreement had been exhausted.dddddddddddd Berrigan also has urged all sides to try to settle, though there have been no apparent signs of progress on that front. Fujitas suspension isnt the only one hanging over the Browns (No. 30 in the AP Pro32) as they prepare to face the Eagles. Cornerback Joe Haden could be facing a four-game suspension for reportedly failing a drug test. The Browns have declined to comment on reports Haden will be suspended for using Adderall. While his situation gets sorted out, Fujita is just happy to be back on the field. One of the clubs defensive captains, hes had his two seasons in Cleveland ended prematurely by injuries. In 2010, he tore a ligament in his left knee and missed the final seven games. Last year, he broke his hand and was placed on injured reserve with six games left. Although hes not yet participating in team drills, Fujita has been running sprints on the side and been active in practices. When Clevelands defence is on the field, Fujita stands a few yards behind the safeties and mimics calling out formations and making plays. Fujitas thoughts have also been with his former teammates in New Orleans, where residents were bracing for Tropical Storm Isaac, travelling on a similar path of destruction that Hurricane Katrina took seven years ago this week. "Its unbelievable," said Fujita, who spent four seasons with the Saints. "I talked to a lot of the guys down there yesterday. Theyre dealing with a lot right now." ------ NOTES: Browns coach Pat Shurmur said rookie QB Brandon Weeden will not play in Thursdays preseason finale against Chicago. With Weeden out, Colt McCoy will start, and both Seneca Wallace and Thad Lewis will get time behind centre. McCoy and Wallace are battling to be Weedens backup. ... Weeden didnt throw a TD pass in any of his three starts and finished 24 of 49 for 297 yards and one interception. ... Shumur said his other starters "will play very little, if at all." ... TE Jordan Cameron was kept out of practice with an unspecified injury. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
