LONDON -- Manchester outclassed north London in a Premier League goal frenzy Sunday as United thrashed Arsenal 8-2 and City thumped Tottenham 5-1 in a pair of rampant attacking displays. After Edin Dzekos four-goal effort helped City dominate at White Hart Lane, Wayne Rooney responded with a treble of his own in Arsenals heaviest loss for 115 years. "You feel humiliated when you concede eight goals," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. "It was a terrible day for us, it was a combination of an under-strength team and weakness." Arsenal has just one point after three games and has seen a player sent off in each match, with defender Carl Jenkinson dismissed against the league leaders. "The performance today was incredible and we deserved the result," Rooney said. "Whether or not Arsenal have a full-strength squad, every time we play them we have a go and try to score. They had some players out but that should take nothing away from us." United tops the standings on goal difference ahead of City as the only teams to have opened the season with three successive wins. Tottenham, though, is stranded at the bottom after being ripped apart by big-spending City. "Today was something special for me, to score four goals in the Premier League is fantastic," Dzeko said. "I think were getting better and better." Also Sunday, Leon Bests second-half double clinched a 2-1 victory for Newcastle over Fulham and Ryan Shottons late goal gave Stoke a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion. At Old Trafford, United scored eight goals for the first time since 1999. It was Danny Welbeck who netted the first, heading over Wojciech Szczesny in the 22nd minute before later coming off with a hamstring injury. Ashley Young doubled Uniteds lead six minutes later with a curling strike just after Arsenal captain Robin van Persie missed a chance to equalize when David de Gea turned his penalty wide. Rooney netted his first just before halftime with a perfect free kick landing in the top corner, but Theo Walcott pulled one back in stoppage time to reduce the deficit to 3-1 at the break. There was no recovery, however, with Rooney restoring the three-goal cushion in the 64th by curling another free kick past Szczesny. Nani chipped in another three minutes later before Ji Sung-Park found the bottom right corner to make it 6-1. Even after van Persie pulled one back, Arsenals misery continued with Jenkinson sent off with 14 minutes to go for hauling down Javier Hernandez, having already been booked. Rooney was able to complete his hat trick in the 82nd from the penalty spot after Walcott fouled Evra, taking his United tally to 152. "When you play Arsenal you expect a difficult game," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said. "We got careless at times and they made chances because they still have quality up front, but overall we are very satisfied that we kept the performance levels up." And the performance overshadowed Citys ruthless display at Tottenham earlier in the day, inspired by a lively Samir Nasri on his first appearance since moving from Arsenal. It was the France midfielder who provided the 34th-minute cross that Dzeko tapped home for Citys first goal. Tottenham could have quickly levelled when Bale delivered a crisp cross to Crouch, whose downward header crept wide. Citys second took goalkeeper Brad Friedel completely by surprise, remaining static as Dzeko buried another cross from Nasri into the net with a header. Yaya Toure supplied Dzekos third 10 minutes into the second half, while Sergio Aguero netted after bursting into the box past Michael Dawson. Younes Kaboul pulled one back for Tottenham, but Dzeko put the gloss on Citys win in stoppage time by curling the ball into the top corner. "This is a very long season and its important that we started well," City manager Roberto Mancini said. "The next games will be very hard because now everyone thinks we will score three or four goals, but that is impossible." At St. James Park, Best tapped in Newcastles first at the start of the second half after Yohan Cabayes shot rebounded back off the bar before grabbing his second with a poked shot from 12 yards in the 66th. United States midfielder Clint Dempseys 88th-minute header from Danny Murphys free kick ensured a tense finale but Newcastle held on. The Stoke-West Brom match was heading to a draw until Jonathan Walters pumped a harmless ball into the box and West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster and centre back Gabriel Tamas allowed Shotton to nip in and score in the 89th. Schuss, a leftie forward from Delta, B.C., was the No. 1 pick, by the Minnesota Swarm, in the NLL entry draft Monday night. His father, Ed Schuss, was a lacrosse star and his older brother, Carlton, had a fling with the NLLs Calgary Roughnecks. The sport is in their blood. "My dad was a big-time lacrosse player and his (Ladner Pioneers) jersey is retired in our home arena," says the NLL star-to-be. "The day I was born I had a lacrosse stick in my hands. "I pretty much grew up in our arena, which is only a five-minute walk from our house. I was there every day. My dad was a defenceman but he wanted me and my brother to be offensive players." He had an exceptional summer in both the indoor and field varieties of Canadas national summer sport: he scored 29 goals in 12 WLA games for the New Westminster Salmonbellies, and he scored 27 goals in 10 MLL games with the Ohio Machine. After four years at The Ohio State University, hes the programs all-time leader in points (237) and goals (146). His OSU program requires a fifth year in order to get him the teachers certificate he wants, so hell be living in Columbus again this winter getting classroom experience and commuting to Swarm games. He wouldnt skip two days of classes to attend the NLL draft. He aims to get a high school phys-ed post in British Columbia next year so he can help teens work towards the athletic scholarship opportunities in the United States from which he has benefited. "Its an unbelievable feeling," Schuss, 22, repplied from Columbus via conference call when asked about being the No.dddddddddddd 1 NLL pick. "Growing up in a lacrosse community and looking up to players and following pro lacrosse for so many years, its a dream come true. Im just happy to get to the next level. I have to thank the coaches who helped me get this far." Minnesota made room for Schuss on its roster by trading away leftie forward Ryan Benesch, who in four years with the Swarm became the franchises all-time leading goal scorer. That trade spoke volumes for how highly the team regards Schuss. "Hes got size and speed and he can finish," says Swarm associate GM and head coach Joe Sullivan. "Hes got tenacity. Hes a great athlete and a great person." Schuss doesnt sound like a young man wholl let himself be burdened by a sense of responsibility to duplicate Beneschs weighty contributions to the Swarm offence. "I really dont see there being too much pressure," says the six-foot, 210-pound attacker. "Like my college coach says, Just go out there and play your game. My mom always told me, Dont feel as if you have to score five or six goals a game. Be a team player. "I do know that I need to step up and be a player who can supply goals for them. Thats why Im working so hard to get ready. I wont try to do too many things outside my game. Ill just continue to play my game. I understand my role." Swarm defenceman Brock Sorensen of Peterborough was an OSU teammate and Swarm forward Kiel Matisz of Hamilton was an Ohio MLL teammate this summer, so Schuss will see some familiar faces when he gets to camp in November. The NLL season, with nine teams playing 18 games each, begins Dec. 28. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
