Stilul de muzica rock este un stil ce a debutat in anii 1960. Radacinile sale se pot gasi atat in Marea Britanie cat si Statele Unite ale Americii . Acest cuprinzator stil de muzica isi trage influentele din rock and roll-ul din anii ’40 – ’50 si este adesea influentat de muzica country si rhythm and blues.
Ca instrument muzical principal in muzica rock se afla chitara electrica Joseph Fauria Jersey , impreuna cu chitara bas si percutia. in timp stilul de muzica rock a pornit o foarte mare varietate de sub-stiluri si pare ca genul de muzica rock a progresat si a suferit preschimbari dupa fiecare decenui.
Este evident ca una dintre cele mai influente grupuri este trupa Britanica The Beatles. Aceasta trupa de rock aveainfluente oarecum vizibile din rhythm and blues si soul. Pe langa trupa the Beatles au luat nastere si alte formatii foarte de consacrate pe scena de muzica rock spre exemplu The Animals , Them sau The Rolling Stones, acestia de la urma cantand un gen de rock mai mult influentat de genurile de muzica din SUA ca de exemply rhythm and blues. Toate aceste formatii scriau muzica imbinand un gen de muzica rock energic cu stiluri de muzica din America .
Stilul de muzica intitulat Garage rock este un stil de rock originar din America de nord, stil ce si-a castigat numele datorita faptului ca acest stil se spune ca a fost cantat in general de grupuri de amatori , acestia exersand in garajele caminelor lor . in general versurile muzicii Garage se invarteau in jurul vietii din liceu, romantelor de adolescent sau despre fetele ce frang inima tinerilor adolescenti . Totodata cu succesul rock-ului Britanic in Statele unite ale Americii , genul de muzica Garage – rock a fost supus anumitor schimbari , imprumutand infleunte din genul Britanic.
Un alt stil de rock din anii ’60 ce se cuvine sa fie mentionat este Blues-Rock, stil de muzica rock ce a produs muzicieni celebri precum Eric Claptop sau ZZ top. Stilul Psychedelic-rock necesita si el reamintit . Psychedelic-rock-ul putand fi descris ca un stil de muzica rock ce a fost inspirat din stupefiantul cunoscut pe numele de LSD. Probabil ca unul din cele mai renumite personaje de pe scena Psychedelic-rock-ului este Jimi Hendrix .
In anii ’70 – ’80 o gramada de alte sub-titluri ale rock-ului s-au format , unul din cele mai aparte fiind Punk Rock ce a nascut trupe precum Sex Pistols si The Clash, genul New Wave ce a introdus grupuri precum The Police, The Go-go’s sau Blondie. Tot in anii ’70 – ’80 stilul de muzica rock pe numele de Post – Punk si-a facut aparitia pe scena si acesta an adus dupa sine grupuri cunoscute in toata lumea ca U2 sau The Birthday Party.
Anii 1990 simbolizeaza o perioada foarte insemnata un interval de timp foarte important pentru muzica rock, sub-stilul numit Grunge facandu-si aparitia si de asemenea dand nastere unor grupuri muzicale de renume mondial cum ar fi Nirvana.
Concomitent cu trecerea in alt mileniu au aparut asa cum era de asteptat alte sub-stiluri ale stilului rock cum ar fi Emo, Metalcore si Retro Metal.

The game is known by a variety of names - rugby, soccer, football etc During ancient times, the Greeks and the Romans played many types of ball games and a few prominent ones resembled the present-day football. Though there is not much of recorded history of Greeks playing football, it is seen that the game of Episkyro which is similar to football was regularly played throughout Greece as early as 800 BCE. However, the Episkyro game permitted the use of hands as well, which means the game was more in the nature of rugby than football. But the other features of Episkyro were in accordance with football. For instance, the size of the playing field and each team having twelve players were in accordance with the latter day football. Historians of sports suggest that it was not so much Episkyro but another Greek ball game Harpastron that was the forerunner to football. Strangely, the Greek word Harpastron means handball and not football. The fact is the Greeks did not popularize the game much in their own country but allowed it to develop in a big way in Rome. There is evidence to suggest that Romans borrowed the basic concept of both the Greek games of Episkyro and Harpastron and evolved a new a game called Harpastum. They also insisted on kicking the ball and using all other parts of the body during the game except the hands. The Roman game of Harpastum can be truly considered as the forerunner to football. Although it is difficult to state in a pinpointed way when the Romans started playing Harpastum, it can be safely presumed that they must have introduced the game after the Romans conquered Greece in 146 BCE. Harpastum principally resembled the rugby style of the game and it appears it was played even by Julius Caesar and his generals for improving the overall physical fitness of the Roman Army.
