PEORIA, Ariz. -- Felix Hernandez and Seattle reached agreement Tuesday on a contract that is expected to make the Mariners ace the highest-paid pitcher in baseball. "I think its a great thing for the Seattle Mariners," Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "Its a great thing for Felix Hernandez, and looking forward to this guy being here for a very long time, obviously." Hernandezs deal is expected to be for $175 million over seven years. Terms of the contract were not released by the team. Hernandez and Zduriencik will hold a news conference in Seattle on Wednesday afternoon where Hernandez is expected to sign the contract. Earlier Tuesday, Zduriencik said the sides were having significant talks to try to finalize a new contract for the three-time All-Star and 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner. Zduriencik said then that a deal of that magnitude in years and dollars, "takes time to work things out." It didnt take too long. By the afternoon, Hernandezs deal was done and Seattle had its ace locked up through the 2019 season. The new contract will encompass the final two years of his current deal that is scheduled to pay Hernandez $40.5 million in 2013 and 2014. Hell receive $134.5 million over the additional five years. Hernandezs total dollars would top CC Sabathias original $161 million, seven-year contract with the New York Yankees and his $25 million average would surpass Zack Greinkes $24.5 million under his new contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and tie him for the second-highest in baseball with Josh Hamilton and Ryan Howard behind Alex Rodriguez ($27.5 million). Hernandezs new money would average $26.9 million over five years. With Hernandez off the market, Detroits Justin Verlander and the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw become the most attractive pitchers eligible for free agency after the 2014 season. Tampa Bays David Price is eligible after the 2015 season. Hernandez, who will turn 27 on April 8, is 98-76 with a 3.22 ERA in eight seasons with the Mariners. He won a career-high 19 games in 2009 when he finished second in the Cy Young voting then won the award a year later when he went just 13-12 but had a 2.27 ERA and 232 strikeouts. Hernandez appeared to be making another Cy Young push last year before going 0-4 in his last six starts, which left him at 13-9 with 223 strikeouts. His career record would be even better if he didnt play with one of baseballs worst offences. Seattle had the lowest batting average in the major leagues in each of the last three seasons. Hernandez has taken 10 losses during that span when hes given up two earned runs or less. For his career, Hernandez has allowed two earned runs or less in 141 of 238 starts, but the team is only 99-42 in those games due to the offensive problems. adidas zx 700 womens cheap . Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said his investigation into the claims against fired coach Bernie Fine started out to answer several questions, among them: Were the first two accusers, Bobby Davis and his stepbrother Michael Lang, being truthful? "On almost every single criteria, Bobby Davis came out as a credible person," the district attorney said. "Mike Lang also comes across as a credible person." Fitzpatrick said the statute of limitations on claims brought by Davis and Lang for abuses they said happened in the 1980s is long past, barring prosecution. Under the laws at the time, they would have had to make their claims to police within five years of the alleged abuse but Davis didnt come forward until 2002 and Lang until this year. On a third accuser, 23-year-old Zach Tomaselli, Fitzpatrick said he has turned over school records and team travel records that may call into question Tomasellis claim that Fine abused him in 2002 in a Pittsburgh hotel when the team played a road game there. He called the records "exculpatory," which is evidence that helps the defence. Fines lawyers say the records appear to prove Tomaselli lied. Tomaselli is one of three men who accuse Fine of molesting them when they were boys. Tomasellis claims are the only ones among the three that are eligible for prosecution within the statute of limitations. "It appears now that there is proof that Tomaselli fabricated this allegation," Fines lawyers, Donald Martin and Karl Sleight, said in a joint statement, their first since early on in the three-week-old scandal. "The incredible damage that Tomaselli has inflicted on Mr. Fine cannot be overstated." Tomasellis phone rang unanswered Wednesday. The 65-year-old Fine, who had been Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheims top assistant since 1976, has adamantly denied wrongdoing. He was fired Nov. 27. The accusations against Fine once appeared to threaten the job of Boeheim, who has said he was unaware of any abuses happening during his tenure. Boeheim at first vehemently defended his longtime friend and assistant and said the accusations were lies to make money in the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal. He later backtracked and said he was wrong to question the motives of the accusers. Davis and Lang, both former ball boys for the team, have accused Fine of molesting them when they were boys. Fitzpatrick said allegations from Tomaselli, of Lewiston, Maine, dont relate to Onondaga County. Fitzpatrick said a 2005 probe by the university into Davis claims was inadequate but said people should stop calling for the resignation of Syracuse Chancellor Nancy Cantor and Boeheim.dddddddddddd Blame, he said, stops with one man: "Hasnt Bernie Fine caused enough pain in this community?" Fitzpatrick said. He said it also was wrong to make any comparison to the child sex abuse scandal at Penn State University that cost legendary football coach Joe Paterno and school president Graham Spanier their jobs. "Its not only inaccurate, its not fair," he said. Fitzpatrick said Syracuse police should have done more to encourage Davis to come forward almost a decade ago. In 2002, Davis told Detective Doug Fox that Fine had molested him. Fox told Davis any crimes in the late 1980s had happened too long before to bring charges but said police could reopen the probe if Davis came forward with more recent allegations or accusers. Davis didnt come forward in person with any later accusations and no report was ever opened. Fitzpatrick said then-Chief Dennis DuVal, a Syracuse basketball star in the 1970s, made a "judgment call" that a file wouldnt be opened because any charges would be misdemeanours on which the statute of limitations had expired and that the accusations would forever alter Fines life even if they were false. "Certainly, in hindsight, more should have been done to encourage Bobby Davis to come forward, to make him feel welcome to come in and give a statement, and new procedures have been put in place by Chief (Frank) Fowler to address that issue," Fitzpatrick said. Fitzpatrick was highly critical of police and the university two weeks ago, saying they should have notified his office of any allegations of sexual abuse. He softened somewhat on Wednesday, calling the universitys 2005 investigation inadequate but insisting there was no indication anybody tried to cover up the claims. "There is not a shred of evidence that we have uncovered, or a suggestion of evidence, that anybody at the Syracuse Police Department was directed to ignore this matter, destroy their notes or to encourage Bobby Davis to remain silent," Fitzpatrick said. Fine was fired after the three men made public accusations and ESPN played a 2002 recording of a phone call in which a woman ESPN identified as his wife tells an accuser she knew "everything that went on." Tomasellis claims fall within federal statutes of limitations and are being investigated by the U.S. Secret Service. Investigators searched Fines home, office and school locker, looking for pornography that could be used "to sexually arouse or groom young males" to have sex, court records say. The investigators took computers, cameras, disks and records, among other things. Theyre also looking for any records that would detail Fines contact with boys. Fitzpatrick said he wouldnt judge Fine. "It is not my place to pronounce Bernie Fine guilty of anything," he said. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
