DALLAS -- The attorney defending the son of Los Angeles Angels outfielder Torii Hunter in a sexual assault case said Thursday he has a recorded telephone conversation during which the boys 16-year-old accuser recants the allegation. Todd Shapiro, the attorney for 17-year-old Darius McClinton-Hunter, told reporters that a recording was made Wednesday of a conversation between the girl and a teenage friend of the Hunter family. On the call, she backs away from the story that led police in the Dallas suburb of Prosper to arrest McClinton-Hunter on Monday, the attorney said. "The alleged victim has done a complete 180 turn," Shapiro said. In a statement, Prosper police spokesman Celso Martinez said the departments investigation of the case will continue but no details will be released. A message was left seeking comment from the Collin County district attorneys office. Torii Hunter has been away from the Angels since his sons arrest. He and his son attended a Thursday news conference but didnt speak. McClinton-Hunter was among five youths arrested in the case, which police said followed a monthlong investigation. McClinton-Hunter and three others were charged with sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony. The other youth was arrested for unlawful restraint of a child, a state jail felony. A second-degree felony in Texas carries a sentence of between two and 20 years in prison. Shapiro said the teenage girl can be heard on the tape saying no sex occurred, forced or otherwise. "It just could not be more clear," he said. Shapiro said the call was recorded by a teen who is close to McClinton-Hunter and his two brothers. The attorney called the youth "an extraordinary young man who had the foresight and wisdom to record the call." Phone calls can be legally taped in Texas with one partys consent. Shapiro said the alleged victim initiated the call. Two conversations, separated by minutes, occurred, he said. "She reached out to him to, we believe, set the record straight," Shapiro said. The attorney said he will not release the tape publicly but will turn it over to authorities. According to Shapiro, the alleged victim has accused McClinton-Hunter of sexually assaulting her in a closet at a time when another youth was present. Shapiro said the youth who was in the closet at the time stated under oath at a juvenile hearing that McClinton-Hunter didnt have sex with the alleged victim. McClinton-Hunter plays football at Prosper High School. He is a receiver who reportedly has attracted interest from several colleges, including Texas Tech, West Virginia and SMU. Shapiro said he will ask authorities to drop the charges and issue an apology to McClinton-Hunter and his family. "The future (for McClinton-Hunter) is bright, and we want to make sure he can continue down that road," the attorney said. Nike Air Max 90 Outlet italia . Suspended this summer by the B.C. Lions before being dispatched to Edmonton for a 2013 fifth-round pick, the six-foot-three, 240-pound Messam has become a potent offensive weapon for the Eskimos. The Toronto native, who grew up in Brampton, Ont., is second in CFL rushing with 859 yards and closing in on becoming the leagues first Canadian-born 1,000-yard rusher since Sean Millington in 2000. "That would be nice, but to be honest it wouldnt make a difference if I didnt," Messam said. "Im not really about individual stats, I just want to get to the playoffs and try to win this Grey Cup." Edmonton (9-6) has clinched a West Division post-season berth but is still battling the B.C. Lions (9-6) for top spot and home-field advantage for the conference final. The Eskimos can cement their first home playoff game since 2004 with a win over Toronto and Saskatchewan beating Calgary later Friday night. You can see both games on TSN, TSN.ca, and on TSN Mobile TV beginning at 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt, and join our Game Night blog to chat with other football fans during the game. The game can also be heard on TSN Radio 1050. Toronto (4-11) has been eliminated from playoff contention but looks to beat a first-place team for the third straight week following victories over Winnipeg and Calgary. Also, receiver/kick-returner Chad Owens needs just 119 combined yards to become the first player in pro football history to register 3,000 all-purpose yards in consecutive seasons. Toronto and Edmonton players and coaches will sport various pink-coloured items as part of the CFLs initiative this weekend to help raise awareness for womens cancers. Not long ago, Messam wasnt sure if he even had a CFL future. After breaking former Lions teammate Paris Jacksons jaw in a dressing-room fight in 2010, Messam was suspended during training camp after reportedly having a woman in his dorm room. Unsure whether his career was over, Messam spent a few anxious days before being dealt to Edmonton. "It has turned out phenomenally well," Messam said. "Ive been accepted by my teammates, the organization and community and I couldnt ask for a better situation." To his credit, Messam doesnt shy away from discussing his off-field issues and says hes learned from them. "I think my problem was basically knowing how to be a pro, that there are things you can and cant do and people are always watching," Messam said. "You have to try and be a role model." Argos defensive end Ricky Foley had nothing but accolades for Messams success this season and also praised Lions head coach/GM Wally Buono for giving Messam another chance. "Whatever happened in B.C. happened but it was good on Wally to not just bury him or blackball him because that happens in our league," Foley said. "Thats the reality of it, some guys get blackballed but good on Wally for seeing there wasnt a fit there and giving the guy an opportunity in Edmonton. "He (Messam) is just hungry right now and taking advantage of his opportunity. Tomorrow Im going to hate him, hes going to be my worst enemy but right now Im happy for the guy and happy for a fellow Toronto kid to get a shot playing a position usually reserved for Americans. Hes a big boy so it will be a test to bring him down." Messam has figured prrominently in the Eskimos fortunes this season.dddddddddddd. Theyre 8-1 when Messam has nine or more carries or surpasses 50 yards rushing but is a dismal 1-5 when he has eight or less attempts. Messam has registered 12 or more carries in a game just four times this season, all wins. Included was a 26-25 home win over Toronto on July 29 that Messam ran for 54 yards on 12 attempts. And with Torontos defence allowing a league-high 135.9 yards rushing per game, chances are the Argos will see plenty of Messam. "I always want the ball, thats just me, Im a competitor and especially with the game on the line I love to have the ball in my hands," Messam said. "As a running back you can never get enough touches . . . but I dont get frustrated or upset if I dont get the ball because I understand this is the CFL and sometimes you have to pass the ball." Messam has also been very reliable, having just one fumble in 154 carries this season. Given the stats, the obvious question remains why doesnt Edmonton run Messam more? "We really have to monitor the number of reps he takes because the body can only take so much punishment and Jerome is a very physical runner," Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed said. "If you give him too many reps, then we start getting diminishing returns as we approach the playoffs. "Its one of those things where we have to be very smart. We know about the number we need to give it to him to have our offence be successful, to score points and keep defences off balance but we cant overdo it." Still, Foley believes the run game will dictate the outcome of Fridays game. "Id be willing to bet whoever has the most successful running game is probably going to win the game," said Foley. "If we can shut the run down early it makes it a lot easier for our guys in the back end, they dont have to come up and think they have to help on the run a lot. "That might be the key to the game, Id say personally I think its going to be the running game." Trouble is, Edmonton can do much more than just run the football. Veteran quarterback Ricky Ray has completed 65 per cent of his passes for 3,526 yards with 18 TDs against 10 interceptions. His receiving corps features Fred Stamps (66 catches, 936 yards, seven TDs), Adarius Bowman (47 catches, 808 yards, two TDs) and Jason Barnes (41 catches, 728 yards five TDs) and they all become more dangerous if a defence must also contend with the hard-running Messam. "The biggest thing is it (run game) really helps our protection when those guys (opposing defensive linemen) having to focus on stopping Jerome and his massive body," Reed said. "Now, those guys arent coming as astutely as they would without having Jerome around." A fact not lost upon Argos head coach/GM Jim Barker. "(Messam) has added a dimension to their offence they havent had," he said. "Obviously stopping the run game is first and foremost to playing defence, you have to be able to do that which gives them more opportunities as they have some very talented receivers in Stamps and Barnes and Adarius Bowman has really added a lot to their receiving corps. "Theyre very formidable and in first place for a reason . . . its a great challenge for our guys to come out and play a first-place Edmonton team get an opportunity to make it three in a row." cheap nfl jerseys cheap soccer jerseys ' ' '
