TORONTO - The Toronto Raptors lost their fourth close game in a row, but this time it came against a team they were expected to beat. Reggie Williams scored a season-high 22 points and the Charlotte Bobcats ended a 16-game losing streak with a 98-91 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Friday. "It feels great," Bobcats forward Corey Maggette said. "The last 16 times we have come to the locker-room with our heads down. Its good to see our guys continue to work, stay positive and come out with a win." The Bobcats werent supposed to be as challenging as the Los Angeles Lakers, the Jeremy-Lin led New York Knicks or the San Antonio Spurs, all teams the Raptors held close in their three previous games. As a result, the Raptors may have taken the struggling Bobcats lightly. Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said his team showed a lack of focus early in the game even though Toronto led 23-22 after the first quarter. "Totally disappointed in our focus, Casey said. "The lack of transition defence, lack of guarding your yard and one-on-one situations. We didnt think it was really going to be an offensive battle." Corey Maggette and Kemba Walker each scored 14 for Charlotte while D.J. Augustin scored 11 points and had 10 assists. Bismack Biyombo chipped in a career-high 13 rebounds for the Bobcats, whose last win was Jan. 14 when they beat Golden State 112-100. "It was just wonderful to win," Bobcats head coach Paul Silas said. "I think the bench came in and really gave us a lift." Charlotte shot 50 per cent from the field while Toronto hit on 41.7 per cent. "It cannot happen," Toronto point guard Jose Calderon said. "We cannot just cant come out here at home and be flat like that." DeMar DeRozans 24 points led the Raptors in their fourth loss in a row. Leandro Barbosa provided 16 points off the bench for Toronto while Calderon and James Johnson added 14 each. Calderon dished out eight assists. "We did not play very well," Calderon said. "We have to play good against every team. Sometimes were just flat out there and thats what happened. When they started making shots it was tough for us. "I dont like it. We have to get better at it. We have four days to get better at it and try to get a win against Detroit and go into the all-star break." After the Raptors pulled to within 92-90 a Toronto turnover led to Boris Diaw hitting a 12-foot jumper with 42.9 seconds left. DeRozan cut the lead to three with a free throw but DJ White put in a layup with 15.8 seconds left to put the Raptors behind by five. Barbosa hit two quick field goals to cut the lead to 87-84 before Amir Johnson stuffed in a rebound to make it a one-point game with 3:57 to play. The Raptors led 69-68 after three quarters, despite having DeRozan on the bench with foul trouble most of the quarter and trailing by three with 6:24 to play in the third. "Its always frustrating going to the bench for foul trouble," DeRozan said. "It throws your rhythm off. Youre not out there and its frustrating but you have to stay focused." Williams had already reached his season high with 22 after hitting a pair of three-pointers early in the third quarter to put Charlotte into a six-point lead. The Bobcats went from being down five points to going up by five during the second quarter, then leading 47-45 at the half. Williams was held to two in the second quarter but finished the half with 16. "Win, lose or draw, one thing we have to do is establish a culture, maintain a culture and just because you talk about it, it doesnt mean its going to stay that way," Casey said. DeRozan led all scorers in the first half with 18 points. The Raptors led 23-22 after the first quarter when Calderon made two free throws with 3.2 seconds left. DeRozan led the Raptors with 13 first-quarter points. Friday night he reaped the benefits in a matchup with Texas Yu Darvish. Hutchison, back in the majors this spring after having Tommy John surgery late in his rookie season in 2012, outdueled the Rangers ace Friday night, throwing a three-hit shutout for his first career complete game in the Blue Jays 2-0 victory. "I was grinding a little bit," said Hutchison, 23, who made 11 starts as a rookie and 10 appearances late last season in the minors. "I had good command, but my secondary stuff took me a little bit to get to. I was able to make that adjustment and make better pitches with the changeup and slider." Melky Cabrera broke up a scoreless game with a two-run double in the eighth inning to give Hutchison (2-3) all the support that he needed. He struck out six in earning his first victory since April 1. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons wasnt surprised by Hutchisons performance. "Ive been watching him pitch from the first day of spring training," Gibbons said. "When hes on, he can be as tough as anybody." Cabreras liner sailed just beyond the outstretched glove of Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland, scoring Erik Kratz and Anthony Gose. Kratz and Gose each reached against Darvish (3-2) on infield bunts. The right-handed hitting Kratz bunted to third and beat an off-balance throw by Adrian Beltre. Gose, a left-handed hitter, drag bunted up the first-base line. Morelands throw to second baseman Rougned Odor covering first base wasnt in time. Kratz and Gose were in the lineup replacing Dioner Navarro and Colby Rasmus. Navarro is on the bereavement/family medical emergency list and Rasmus is on the disabled list. Kratz said it was his decision to open the inning with a bunt. "Wed been talking the whole game about getting something going," Kratz said. &qquot; It was just an idea that worked.ddddddddddddquot; Darvish said through an interpreter that he was surprised by the first bunt but not by the second. He went eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Darvish struck out 11 and walked three in his first start since throwing a one-hitter against Boston last Friday that Major League Baseball on Wednesday ruled was a two-hitter. Neither team got a runner beyond first base until the sixth inning — thanks in part to a successful Toronto challenge in the third inning that reversed a safe call on a steal of second base by Leonys Martin. In the bottom of the sixth, Martin walked, was bunted to second, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly. He was stranded when Elvis Andrus grounded to shortstop. Darvish was working on six days rest because of a shuffling of the Rangers starting rotation when Martin Perez experienced elbow pain in his start Saturday. The first hit off Darvish came in the fifth inning, a leadoff single pulled to right field by Adam Lind. The Rangers have lost three straight and five out of six to fall six games behind first-place Oakland in the AL West. Texas typically potent attack went into the game ranked 10th in the league in slugging percentage and 11th in runs. And, in the past week, the Rangers have lost left-handed starters Perez and Matt Harrison to what appear to be season-ending injuries. "Its in the back of our heads; its sad to see whats happening to our pitching staff," Rangers right fielder Alex Rios said. "This is an offence capable of doing a lot of damage. We havent quite gotten there yet." NOTES: Left-hander Robbie Ross, Texas Saturday starter, has allowed 23 earned runs in 26 2-3 innings over his last five starts. ... Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle will bring the ALs most wins (7) and the leagues second-best ERA (2.04) into Saturdays start. ... Andrus hitting streak ended at 11 games. ' ' '
