LONDON -- Usually Friday night is one the quietest times in the frenzied world of the English Premier League. Randy Starks Jersey . Players can be found on gaming consoles in hotel rooms on the eve of games, or resting at home in anticipation of a Sunday game. But the pre-game calm will be shattered by the closing of the winter transfer window on Friday, with clubs racing to sign reinforcements or offload rejects for the final time this season. Here are five things to know about the transfer deadline-day and the weekends Premier League matches: CLASH OF THE CHALLENGERSManchester City and Chelsea will be relieved their fixture has been shunted back to Monday, minimizing any disruption for their top-of-the-table meeting. "Its the ultimate test," Chelsea defender Gary Cahill said. "Its going to be a really, really tough game." The City squad hardly needs much tinkering. Manuel Pellegrinis side took its goal tally this season to 115 in all competitions with a 5-1 thumping of Tottenham that took them back to the Premier League summit. At the same time, though, Chelsea was being frustrated by West Ham — drawing 0-0 — and travels to the Etihad three points behind City. The game pits the stingiest defence — Chelsea has conceded 20 in 23 — against the leagues most prolific attack — City has scored 68 in 23. "As a collective unit, as a whole team, were working really hard defensively, not just at the back," Cahill said. Chelsea got the better of City in their last clash, winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in October. ARSENAL BLIPBeing knocked off the top has taken the wind out of Arsenals title charge. And after being held at Southampton, the Gunners host a resurgent Crystal Palace on Sunday. "The kind of performance we delivered at Southampton will not move us forward, so lets focus to come back on Sunday and produce a good performance," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. By then will there be any new faces in an Arsenal side looking to produce a first trophy since 2005? Its unclear. "Are we active? Yes. Are we close to sign anybody? No," Wenger said on Thursday. "There is not long now, that is true." Top of the target list is Julian Draxler, but Schalke doesnt seem to be a willing seller. Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt said he was "very convinced" the 20-year-old attacking midfielder will remain at the German club for the rest of the season. Arsenal will be without midfielders Jack Wilshere, who has an ankle problem, and Aaron Ramsey, who faces several weeks out with a thigh injury. LEAKY TOTTENHAMTottenham was brought down to earth with a bang by City on Wednesday as Tim Sherwoods unbeaten start as manager in the league ended. The north London club, which has conceded 11 goals to City this season, has what seems to be an easy trip to Hull on Saturday. "We have to be positive because we are still fifth, three points behind Liverpool," goalkeeper Hugo Lloris said. "So it is open. We just need to be focused." NORTH-EAST DERBYNewcastle is preparing for the derby against Sunderland on Saturday still trying to replace Yohan Cabaye, having received more than $27 million for the midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain this week. Manager Alan Pardew is waiting for a bid for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier to be accepted. "He has tremendous creative technical ability," Pardew said. Sunderland, which is out of the relegation zone for the first time since August, signed Argentina striker Ignacio Scocco on Thursday from Internacional. MOYES EYES MOMENTUMManchester United is chasing its first back-to-back league wins in a month when the champions face Stoke on Saturday still in seventh place. David Moyes push for the top four is being helped by how easily record-signing Juan Mata slotted into the team for a 2-0 win over Cardiff on Tuesday after joining from Chelsea. "Juan looked like he had been here for years," winger Ashley Young said. "He had only been training for two days and it was his first game but he has gelled straight away." One teams chase of that crown will take a hit tonight when the Coyotes visit the Sharks with an eye on returning to first place.CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy seems to be growing tired of his teams dispassionate attitude. Van Gundy took a few shots at his players lacklustre approach following a 100-84 loss Tuesday night to the Charlotte Bobcats, the worst team in the NBA. "Our guys are satisfied that we came in with the third-best record in the East and the fifth-best record in the league," Van Gundy said. "Theyre satisfied with that. I dont think theres any push to be better or any push to be great. If there is, it doesnt show up in games." Added Van Gundy: "This is who are. Whether we change that or not, I dont know." The Magic led by 20 points in the first half but let the Bobcats back in it. After Charlotte coach Paul Silas was ejected in the second quarter for arguing a call, the Bobcats went on a 22-1 run to take the lead in the third quarter. Corey Maggette scored a season-high 29 points for the Bobcats, Gerald Henderson hit some big shots in the fourth quarter, and Charlotte won for just the fifth time in 36 games against the Magic. The Bobcats came in having lost 21 of their last 22 games, but got a big game from rookie centre Bismack Biyombo. Biyombo, the seventh overall pick in the draft, played with emotion and battled toe-to-toe with Dwight Howard and had 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. He also blocked seven shots. Howard had 15 points and 17 rebounds, and Ryan Anderson added 14 points and 11 boards for the Magic. Its the second straight game Biyombo has played well in a starting role against Howard. In January, Biyombo had 11 points and 10 rebounds in a six-point Charlotte loss. "Its a big challenge and you can take it or you can walk away," Biyombo said of facing Howard. Said Maggette: "I think he was the difference in this game." Maggette was pretty big, too. Coming off a 24-point performance Sunday night against New Jersey, Maggette was aggressive in taking the ball to the hole. He hit 9 of 17 shots from the field and 10 of 11 free throws. "It just feels good to get a win," Maggette said. "Weve been up and down and were not having a good season -- everyone knows that. For our team to play and fight tonight was a positive for our team." The Bobcats won despite the fact veteran forward Boris Diaw, a regular starter, did not play amid uncertainty surrounding his future with the team. Charlotte president of basketball operations Rod Higgins confirmed Tuesday night that he met with Diaw recently about the veterans expiring contract. Bernard Pollard Jersey. Higgins said Diaws agent, Doug Neustadt, approached him about the possibility of a trade or buyout that would allow his client a chance to move to another team this season. Diaw is under contract for $9 million this season, which could make it difficult to trade him. Hes been at odds with Silas most of the season. "Its just one of those things," Silas said. "I wanted to see what the rest of the guys could do. We just werent going to play him and see what the other guys could do and they did a good job." While Silas was pleased with how his team played under his son, Stephen, for the better part of three quarters, Van Gundy seems a bit disgusted. Van Gundy coached despite experiencing chest pains Monday night in Toronto and staying behind to be examined by doctors. He said after the game he feels "fine." "When we went up 18 or 20 points we got real selfish and everybody just tried to get theirs and everybody quit playing the way we had played to get the lead," Van Gundy said. "We will not play 48 minutes. We just will not." Van Gundy said the team has a bad mentality right now. "Its our mentality to start the game and then feel like OK, it doesnt matter, I can be careless on this pass because were up 20," he said. "So that leads to points. And then its, OK, I dont have to help on this drive and now were up 16. And it just keeps going. Its not a mentality of playing every possession as hard as you can." With Charlotte leading 84-82, Henderson, who finished with 16 points, began to take over. He scored twice against another former Duke player, J.J. Redick, drawing a pair of fouls both times. Although he missed both free throw attempts, Henderson came right back and knocked down another jumper over Hedo Turkoglu to push the Bobcats lead to eight. The Magic never really threatened again. NOTES: Diaw sitting out broke a personal streak of 384 straight games played. ... Silas now leads the league in technical fouls with six. ... The Magic attempted 35 3-pointers (they made 13) against one of the leagues poorest interior defensive teams. ... At one point during the game, there were four former Duke players on the court: Maggette and Henderson for the Bobcats and Redick and Chris Duhon for the Magic. ' ' '
