On the road again! For the third year in a row TSN and Kraft have decided to take Sportscentre on the road and they have asked me to write a little blog. cheap jerseys . Its more like a log. Stardate Aug 22nd 2011. OK, Im not much of a Trekkie but Im not bad on the road. The only problem is I cant sleep. Its 6 oclock in the morning and the sun is just starting to come up in Pembroke, Ontario. When you are used to rolling over every night with the same woman for twenty-some years and shes not there, I just roll right out of bed - at least I do. Hi baby. We kicked off our tour in Wallaceburg, Ontario and I cant say enough about that town and its people. In the three-year history of the KCT no city has garnered more votes over 600,000. They wanted us and welcomed us with open arms. It sits in the south part of the province and is closer to Detroit than Toronto. They were once known as the glass capital of the country but are hardly fragile. The glass factory shut down and then the auto industry died but undaunted, they move on. Its a pretty little place with the Sydenham River running right through it. The town is dissected by some beautiful bridges but what brings it together is lacrosse. They love lacrosse. Its a part of the people. Everyone either plays it or coaches it or supports it. Thats where the $25,000 from Kraft went. We didnt play lacrosse in Saskatchewan...oh, we hit each other with sticks but that was about it. Tough sport and tough people. The day of the show it was hot and humid and southern Ontario soupy. 27 degrees and I couldnt stop sweating. It might have been the one pound Large Marge burger I ate the day before. Thanks to the Big Chief Drive Inn. Its a beast but I crushed it in 11 minutes. You know I have a big mouth. Anyway we were all set to do the show, they guesstimated about 2,500 people came out and then about ten minutes to show time the humidity finally gave in and it started to pour. It was the kind of rain that soaks you literally in seconds. Then the lightning hit, and it was to dangerous with our metal stage which is like a big set of braces for my gigantic mouth and we had to start the show in Toronto. It was very disappointing but at the bottom of the hour we were back on the air and wet and soggy the crowd came swarming back. These people were not going anywhere and while the rain might have dampened them, it certainly didnt dampen their spirits. Like I said they are tough Canadians and whats a little rain? We finished the show and they were fantastic. I cant say enough about their fortitude. Thanks, Wallaceburg! We signed autographs for an hour then it was off to Sarnia. We got into our hotel around 10 oclock Saturday night. We relaxed for a bit and then hit the rack. Up at five for a 6 oclock flight to Toronto and then an 8 oclock flight to Ottawa. From Ottawa we drove towards Pembroke, which is about two hours away. What a drive the Ottawa Valley is - really pretty - and then we hit Wilderness Tours, the best place for white water rafting. I have floated in a river before but had never gone rafting. I felt like Huckleberry Finn on adrenaline. They set us up with life jackets and helmets and it was on. We were ready to tackle the Ottawa River although it pretty much tackled us. You try to massage it with your paddles but really you are at its mercy. What a rush. We hit the rapids and bam, you are in it. Tossing and turning its like riding a big watery bull. You are bouncing everywhere and just trying to hang on. Our guide Corey did a great job and we didnt spill a single person. It was awesome. We even cliff dived. I wish we would have had a little more time to hang out at the camp but we are on a schedule even though its a really cool working holiday. From the camp we completed the drive to Pembroke and pretty much got cleaned up and went right to the rink. See, thats what you do in Pembroke - you go to the rink. Its home to the Pembroke Lumber Kings, the defending RBC Cup champions. Sunday night was the first exhibition game of the season and their practice rink was packed. They were playing Kemptville and we got to drop the puck at the opening faceoff. The crowd was awesome. This is why we are the best hockey playing nation in the world. On an August night in the Ottawa Valley everyone was at the rink. I thought it was the perfect start to this part of the tour, but now the sun has come up and I think I will try and go back to bed.
