The Winnipeg Jets finished the four game Central Division trip at 1-2-1, and are now 2-3-1 on the road this season, with each game being decided by one goal. In Edmonton, a 5-4 win, Minnesota a 2-1 loss, Nashville a 3-2 loss in overtime, Dallas a 2-1 shoot-out win, Colorado a 3-2 loss and St. Louis a 3-2 loss. Add up the goals for in the last five road games and the total is eight. (Shootout winner in Dallas not in the total). The inability to get that third goal has been costly. On this four-game trip, Blake Wheeler (3), Bryan Little (2), Anthony Peluso (1), Evander Kane (1) were the only Jets to score. Andrew Ladd had the winner in the shootout win in Dallas. In St. Louis, the Jets again surrendered the first goal as Brenden Morrow scored his second of the year. The Jets (5-7-2) have only scored the first goal of the game three times. They tied it on a 5-on-3 power play with Wheeler scoring his fourth goal in the last five games, and snapping an eight-game team power play drought. The Jets did not score a 5-on-3 goal in 10 opportunities last year. The physical first period ended tied at 1-1. There was no scoring in the second period with special teams the key in the third. Alex Pietrangelo regained the lead for St. Louis as the Blues forced a turnover in the Jets zone. The Jets penalty kill was excellent in this game against the leagues number one power play. While killing their fifth penalty, Andrew Ladd and Bryan Little broke into the Blues zone with Little finishing the play off with his second short-handed goal of the season. It was Littles seventh goal of the year, tying his output from last year. "Im shooting more and not squeezing the stick as much," Little would say on the TSN Jets post-game interview. It appeared as though the Jets would go to overtime for the fifth time in seven games until Toby Enstrom was called for interference at 17:47, giving St. Louis one last power play chance, and Alexander Steen would put a back hand shot off the post, off Ondrej Pavelecs pad and in for the game winner. It was his league-leading 11th goal of the year and came with one minute left in the third. The Jets again had quality chances with no results. Wheeler hit the inside of the post late in the second, while Jaroslav Halak made a number of key saves in the third, including one off Michael Frolik at the side of the net that would have given the Jets the lead. There was plenty of frustration in the Jets room after this one. Finding ways to lose was a common quote. It was a heart-breaking loss in a game the Jets deserved at least a point. But shorthanded six times is too many as the Jets now lead the NHL in short-handed situations. Little took 27 face-offs, Mark Stuart blocked six shots, Dustin Byfuglien played 26:35, all team highs. Head coach Claude Noel, like his players, was frustrated with another one goal defeat. "We gave ourselves a chance, but we found a way to lose," said Noel. "We gave their power play a lot of opportunities. This could have been a decent trip." The Jets return to action at MTS Centre Saturday afternoon against Chicago (TSN 1290) and Monday against Detroit (TSN Jets, TSN 1290.) They will play 14 games in 28 days in November. Defenceman Ben Chiarot was recalled from St. Johns but did not play. The Jets have defenceman Jacob Trouba and Paul Postma on IR, as well as forward Jim Slater. As it happened, he set a Trail Blazers record with nine three-pointers and scored a career-high 33 points to help Portland beat the Denver Nuggets 117-97 Saturday night. "When I came in tonight I was thinking, Dont hurt my knee, dont be crazy tonight," said Batum, who sat out two games with a bruised bone. "I tried to drive to the basket . I could not dunk, I could not even make a layup. All I could do is shoot from the three-point line." LaMarcus Aldridge added 29 points for Portland, which Gerald Wallace had 17 points and Marcus Camby had 20 rebounds for Portland. Batum made a career-high nine three-pointers, the most in an NBA game this season and a franchise record for the Blazers. Danilo Gallinari had 20 points and Ty Lawson and Kosta Koufos each added 16 to lead the Nuggets, who have lost four of their last five, including 93-89 Friday night to the Los Angeles Lakers. "We just need to start being more physical," said Corey Brewer, who had 14 off the bench for Denver. "The last couple games we havent had the physicality we need." The Nuggets (15-9) were playing their third game in three days and arrived in Portland after 4 a.m. after their flight out of Denver was delayed because of snow. Portland was coming off a deflating 95-92 loss at Sacramento on Thursday. The Blazers have been a completely different team on the road this season, where they are 3-9. At the Rose Garden, Portland is 11-1, the second-best home record in the Western Conference to San Antonio, which is 13-1. The Nuggets (15-9) were playing their third time in as many days and arrived in Portland after 4 a.ddddddddddddm. after their flight out of Denver was delayed because of snow. The Blazers were playing on one days rest. Batum returned after missing two games with a bruised knee. The six-foot-nine small forward provided a spark for the Blazers after entering the game late in the first quarter, hitting 5 of 6 three-pointers and scoring 17 points in a span of less than seven minutes, lifting Portland to a 52-37 lead in the second quarter. "Trust me, I have to contest those shots in practice every day, so I already know what he can do," Wallace said. "I was just impressed he was doing that with a banged up knee." Denver cut the lead to 59-53 by putting together a 15-4 run going into halftime as Lawson scored eight points. The game got as close as 64-61 in the third on a dunk from Koufos, but the Blazers went on a 14-2 run as the Nuggets hit the wall. Denver was never a threat the remainder of the game and the Blazers led by as many as 25. "Anytime we play three games in three nights it should be a forty minute game," Nuggets coach George Karl said. NOTES: The Nuggets play their next three games at home, against Houston, Dallas and Golden State. ... Blazers PG Raymond Felton left the game in the third quarter with sprained foot. X-rays were negative. ... Denver G Rudy Fernandez was booed each time he touched the ball. He played for Portland from 2008-11, but fell out of favour with fans when he asked to be released from his contract before last season. Many fans also booed a video image of Greg Oden, the former No. 1 overall draft pick who has not played since December 2009 because of knee injuries. Oden had arthroscopic surgery on Friday in Denver. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
