FRISCO, Texas -- Mauro Rosales scored in the 16th minute to give the Seattle Sounders FC a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night. Seattle pushed its record to 8-1-4 over its last 13 MLS matches and moved past Dallas into second place in the Western Conference standings. Dallas saw its four-game home unbeaten streak (3-0-1), in which it had outscored its opponents 7-0, snapped, and is now 2-3-3 overall in its last eight MLS contests. FC Dallas outshot Seattle 24-9, despite appearing worn down by the extreme heat, which was 40 degrees Celsius when the game started. "I thought it was a game where Dallas probably had more of the game than we did for sure," acknowledged Seattle coach Sigi Schmid. "But it was the same thing when we played in Seattle (a 1-0 Dallas win May 25). We had more of the game than they had and were unfortunate to lose. Tonight, we were a little fortunate to win. Over a seasons time, that sort of balances out." Both teams were coming off CONCACAF Champions League victories. Dallas beat Pumas UNAM 1-0 in Mexico on Wednesday and Seattle topped Guatemalas CSD Comunicacaiones 4-1 at home on Tuesday. Playing a man down for the final 34-plus minutes, Dallas pressed for the equalizer to the final whistle, with Bruno Guardas last-chance shot deflecting just wide of the right post. Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller made four saves to record his eighth shutout of the season. "He came up huge, bigger than big," Schmid said. "He made a huge save at the end of the day for us, also dealt with a lot of the crosses, making sure we stayed marked up and all those things." One of his best stops came in the 72nd minute, when he denied a point-blank shot from Marvin Chavez. Seattle jumped ahead 1-0 in the 16th minute by taking advantage of a mix-up by the depleted Dallas defence. Rosales was left wide-open on the rush up field, received a lead pass from Fredy Montero, and slotted a low shot just inside the right goal post. The goal, Rosales fourth of the season, snapped Dallas home shutout streak at 388 minutes. "Anytime you can get an early goal, especially on the road, thats game-changing right there," said Seattle defender Zach Scott. "It was definitely a fantastic opportunity that Rosales had and he tucked it away." With Dallas already missing top defender George John due to suspension, a hamstring injury to Zach Loyd in the 24th minute forced a substitution, leaving FCD a bit thin in the backfield. Then midfielder Daniel Cruz, who was making first MLS start since Dallas signed him from Belgium on Aug. 4, was ejected in the 56th minute after collecting his second yellow card of the game. "I cannot have a good feeling about tonight, we lost the game, and it was a decisive moment in the game when I got the red card," the 30-year-old Colombian said. "This is my second red card in 14 years as a professional player and in my debut in front of our fans. I know I will have a lot of trouble sleeping tonight."
