ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe came very close to making his first IndyCar podium appearance last year. The 25-year-old is determined to make it happen in his sophomore season. Hinchcliffe, who has moved from Newman-Haas to Andretti Autosport, had three fourth-place finishes in 2011 and was named rookie of the year. The Oakville, Ont., driver is confident he can take the next step and get on the dais this season. "It takes everything going your way and a little bit of luck," Hinchcliffe said Wednesday on a conference call. "But I think were poised this year to make that happen because Andretti Autosport is obviously a fantastic team. "Theyve won a lot of races, theyve won multiple championships, multiple 500s, these guys know how to get it done." Hinchcliffe will team with American drivers Marco Andretti and Ryan Hunter-Reay this season. "I think weve got a very strong driver lineup," Hinchcliffe said. "The chemistry is very good and at the end of the day if youve got the right people working towards the same goal, I think youre going to achieve it. "Im confident that just working with this team and the experience that they have and what I can draw from my two teammates now, you put it together with just a good weekend and a little bit of luck and I think were going to find ourselves on that podium for sure." Hinchcliffe finished fourth at Long Beach, New Hampshire and Kentucky last season and had seven top-10 finishes over 16 starts. He will ride the No. 27 GoDaddy Chevrolet this season. Hinchcliffe was among the fastest drivers during open testing this week at Sebring International Raceway. "Any seat time in the car right now is beneficial," Hinchcliffe said. "So for us, to have those two days with all three cars at Sebring was a big step. Its the first time weve had all three cars running together at the same test. "We got a lot of work done. Learned a lot about what not to do, but thats part of the learning process with a new car." The new season kicks off March 25 at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Dario Franchitti is the defending champion. Hinchcliffe didnt race at the event last year as his deal was finalized after the 2011 season opener. Hes not sure what to expect on the 14-turn road circuit. "I think its going to be a bit of a tough weekend for everyone," Hinchcliffe said. "Just having the first full-race weekend with all the new equipment and a new team for me, new engines all around. "So itll be very interesting. Itll certainly be one worth watching." Cole followed three minutes later with a wrist shot from a sharp angle near the goal line that beat Scrivens to his right. About three minutes later, Cole tied it by swatting in a rebound that was nicked by Dallas Alex Chiasson following a shot from the left point by Seguin 35 seconds into a power play. Kopitar accounted for the final margin 1:05 into the third period with a shot from the left circle after Dallas Benn brothers, Jamie and Jordie, got tangled up and lost the puck.
