(Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks will take a shot at reclaiming first place in the Western Conference tonight when they host the Montreal Canadiens. Vancouver stopped a two-game losing streak on Thursday, as Samuel Pahlsson scored the game-winner with 5:43 to play to lift the Canucks to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Arena. "It hasnt been going in for me lately so to get that one is big," said Pahlsson. "Its not my main role out there, but you want to get goals once in a while." Ryan Kesler and Alexander Edler each scored for the Canucks, while Cory Schneider posted 30 saves in the win. Roberto Luongo will likely be back between the pipes tonight, but has allowed at least three goals in five of his last six games. Vancouver holds a comfortable 18-point lead over Colorado for the top spot in the Northwest Division with 92 points and sits one point back of St. Louis for the top spot in the Western Conference and overall in the NHL. The Canucks could get a little closer to that top spot tonight, as they have won 10 of their last 11 at home versus the Canadiens. Vancouver also earned a shootout win in Montreal back on Dec. 8. The Canadiens got some good news on Saturday when the team activated defenceman Andrei Markov and said he would be available for the game against Vancouver. The 33-year-old has not played for the Canadiens since tearing the ACL in his right knee over a year ago in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Montreal comes into tonights affair on a winning note after Max Pacioretty scored twice and added an assist in the Canadiens 5-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. P.K. Subban posted a goal and two assists for the Canadiens, who had dropped seven of eight coming into the game. Peter Budaj posted 24 stops in the win. "Im happy that I was able to help us shake off this losing streak," said Subban. "I thought we kept the game simple and just tried to play solid every shift." Howe was a three-time runner-up for the Norris Trophy and twice appeared in the Stanley Cup Final with the Philadelphia Flyers. One of Gordie Howes hockey-playing sons, Mark Howe netted 1,246 points over 22 seasons split between the World Hockey Association and the NHL. Howe was a six-time NHL all-star. "I was elated to have this dream come true given that it is a tremendous honour just to have my name mentioned with the upper echelon of hockey," said Howe. "To actually have my name in the Hall of Fame with my Dad will mean so much to my family."
