(SportsNetwork.com) - Marian Gaborik and Anze Kopitar were key to the Los Angeles Kings run to a Stanley Cup title a season ago. The duo is at it again. The Kings take aim at a third straight victory on Monday night when they play host to a Calgary Flames club trying to avoid a ninth straight loss. Kopitar led the NHL with 26 points during the most recent postseason and Gaborik netted 14 goals in helping Los Angeles win the Cup. Injuries, though, have limited Gaborik to 22 games this season and Kopitar had struggled to just 14 points through his first 29 games before a recent two-game surge. Kopitar had a goal and four assists in a win over St. Louis on Thursday to begin a four-game homestand and then added another three helpers in Saturdays 4-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. Gaborik netted a goal for a fourth game in a row, with six total over that span. He also had picked up two assists during that run. Gaboriks goal with 2:20 left in the second period tied the game and Alec Martinez and Trevor Lewis scored in the third frame to put the contest away. Jeff Carter also scored and Jonathan Quick made 15 saves. We came out pretty good dictating the tempo, said Kopitar. It could easily go south after those two goals, but we stuck together and got it done on the power play. The Kings back-to-back wins come following a 1-3-1 road trip. L.A. is 13-4-1 at home this season and 4-7-5 on the road. The Flames face a tough task in slowing down the Kings momentum at home and are on their longest losing streak since an 0-6-3 stretch from Jan. 11-28, 2010. After losing seven in a row in regulation, the Flames did at least earn a point with Saturdays 3-2 overtime setback to the Vancouver Canucks. Calgary fell behind by two goals, one that was credited to Vancouver when Flames defenseman Dennis Widemans pass to the right point during a delayed penalty caromed off the boards past a teammate and all the way into the vacated net. I dont know what to tell you. It was a basic pass back to the point that kind of handcuffed him, took a funny bounce off the wall and ran all the way down the ice and into the net, said Wideman. David Jones and Johnny Gaudreau, though, scored to even the game before the Canucks won it just 18 seconds into overtime. Jonas Hiller ended with 30 saves in defeat. Goals are tough to come by, said Flames coach Bob Hartley. It would have been easy to fold the tent, but credit to our guys, they battled back. I thought we played a pretty solid game. Hiller has allowed two goals or fewer in three straight and four of his past five starts. He is 9-8-3 lifetime versus the Kings with a 2.30 goals against average, .928 save percentage and three shutouts. Quick is 9-5-2 versus the Flames with a 1.60 GAA and .934 save percentage along with two shutouts. Calgary won three of five versus the Kings last season and has taken two straight and four of its past six in Los Angeles. wholesale jerseys from china .Y. -- New England quarterback Tom Brady might want to watch his back. wholesale jerseys free shipping . RALEIGH, N.C. -- When things were most tense, Carolina had twice as many skaters on the ice as Pittsburgh did. To Penguins coach Dan Bylsma, it seemed as if it were even more. "The 8-on-3," he quipped, "was pretty gutsy." Backup goalie Brent Johnson came up big during the defensive stand that thwarted Carolinas three-man advantage and helped the surging Penguins beat the slumping Hurricanes 3-2 on Saturday night. "You dont see 6-on-3s that often," Johnson said. "Just an excellent effort from our guys." Arron Asham and Pascal Dupuis scored 1:27 apart in the third period, Craig Adams had a goal and an assist, and Sidney Crosby added an assist for the Penguins. Theyve won five of seven games since Crosbys return, and he has two goals and 10 assists in that span. Johnson finished with 30 stops to win a battle of the backups against Brian Boucher. He stopped five shots during the final 2:04, when a series of Pittsburgh penalties gave Carolina a 5-on-3 advantage. The Hurricanes pulled Boucher and peppered him relentlessly in what Adams called "a shooting gallery." Cracked Bylsma: "We were going to be short for another 24 hours." Johnsons most impressive save came when Jussi Jokinens shot off the post trickled past him before he covered it with his right shoulder with 17.2 seconds left. "Good teams are going to block shots and theyre going to shut down the middle of the ice," Carolina centre Jeff Skinner said. "We got some good looks. We got some good shots there at the end, but their goalie made some good saves (including) the one on the goal line behind him. You want to score on those. Just, tonight, we didnt get it done." Asham broke a 1-all tie when his hard shot from between the circles beat Boucher with 11:27 left. Dupuis followed by hammering in a rebound to make it 3-1 with 10 minutes left. Jamie McBain scored two goals and Boucher had 37 saves for the Hurricanes. McBain pulled them within a goal with 7:31 left when he scored a rare power-play goal -- just the second for Carolina in six games. But when the Hurricanes couldnt score with what amounted to a 6-on-3 advantage after Boucher was pulled, Pittsburgh claimed a matchup oof teams at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference standings.dddddddddddd The Penguins top the NHL with 36 points, while the Hurricanes entered one point out of last place and have lost six straight and 13 of 16. "Its very frustrating," Jokinen said. "You cant deny that. Its been really tough, but theres nothing you can do. You cant change the past. You have to just watch the future. Its never too late to turn (around) the season. Just keep believing and keep your heads up and try to get that first win on Tuesday and try to go from there." It wrapped up a rough first week on the job for Kirk Muller, who was hired Monday to replace the fired Paul Maurice. The 19-year NHL veteran as a player wound up taking on two first-place teams in his first five days as Carolinas coach, losing to Southeast leader Florida on Nov. 29. "Thats a pretty good team over there. A couple posts, a couple pucks on the goal line and the game turns out differently," Skinner said. "We just didnt get the win. Thats the way its been going around here. Weve got to try and get those positive things." Playing for the first time since Nov. 19, Johnson was impenetrable early on, breaking up a pretty backdoor pass from Bryan Allen to Jokinen and then stuffing Chad LaRose after a perfect cross-ice pass midway through the first. He also caught a break late in the second when Skinner had a wide-open net but couldnt get control of a bouncing puck before Brooks Orpik and Johnson shut the door on him. Adams put Pittsburgh up 1-0 midway through the second when he took a pretty backhand pass from Crosby at the end line and beat Boucher for his third goal. McBain tied it with 1:19 before the break on a delayed penalty, taking a cross-ice pass from Joni Pitkanen and blasting the puck past Johnson. NOTES: Pittsburgh C Jordan Staal had his face bloodied by Tomas Kaberles pass with about three minutes left. Bylsma said he had a cut under his eye but "Im sure theyll be looking at making sure hes fine and structural-wise."... Johnson played in his 300th career game. ... McBain sat out the last two games as a healthy scratch. ... Since the Hurricanes beat Pittsburgh 5-3 on Nov. 12, theyve only won twice since. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
