Montreal Canadiens forward George Parros lost his balance in a fight against Toronto Maple Leaf Colton Orr, fell to the ice and knocked himself out cold. Cheap Cleveland Cavaliers Jerseys . The Princeton grad is out indefinitely with a concussion. This latest fight-related injury has once again sparked a debate as to whether fighting belongs in the game. From a legal standpoint, the question is this: could the National Hockey League be held liable for brain trauma sustained while playing the game? Could someone like Parros come back and sue the league? This type of question comes up a lot in light of the National Football Leagues concussion lawsuits. About 4,500 retired players sued the NFL alleging that the league concealed the long-term impact of headshots. The NFL settled that case when it agreed to pay the players nearly a billion dollars (however, the settlement has not yet been approved by the Court and any player has the option to opt out of the settlement and file his own lawsuit). While the NFL has agreed on a settlement, that doesnt mean that a court would have found for the players. The same goes for the NHL if a player like Parros ever sued. Indeed, players today would have some obstacles to overcome if they wanted to be successful in court. First, the collective bargaining agreement, which is agreed upon by the players, provides that issues of player health and safety go to arbitration and not court. There is also the really important issue of consent. In hockey, when a player steps on the ice, he consents to bodily harm that is accepted as being part of the game. In the case of Parros, he is a fighter and knows there is a serious risk of injury. As well, players today have a better and more meaningful understanding of the long-term risk associated with playing hockey. Its not a secret that a player may endure cognitive struggles later on in life. The final hurdle for player to overcome is something at law called causation. How does a player show that his brain damage was caused as a result of playing in the NHL? Very sadly, this is one limitation facing the Derek Boogaard lawsuit against the NHL. Boogaard fought for nine seasons in the WHL, ECHL and AHL before playing the NHL. It may not be clear where the damage was caused. While these hurdles may discourage a lawsuit, they dont completely remove the risk of one materializing. Merits of a case aside, a player may still elect to sue the league if, for example, he believes that the league is responsible for brain trauma sustained while playing. And a lawsuit would bring with it negative publicity for the game. No business likes that, and the NHL is likely no different. The discussion about the utility of fighting has been rising over the past few years as the public becomes more aware and sensitive to the potential long-term impact of headshots. Indeed, there seems to be a trend emerging: concerns over fighting have become part of the narrative of the game of hockey and they dont seem to be going away anytime soon. nfl jerseys china . Benitez was hoping a victory over Chelseas west London neighbour would kick start the process of winning over fans unhappy about his controversial hiring last week after the firing of Roberto Di Matteo. However this result and lacklustre performance will increase the frustration of supporters, with Chelsea creating few opportunities in a dour game. Cheap Detroit Tigers Jerseys . From filmmaker Nanette Burstein (On the Ropes), The Price of Gold revisits the saga that rocked the figure skating world ahead of the 1994 Lillehammer Olympic Winter Games: the assault on Nancy Kerrigan, and the plot that led its way back to her rival Tonya Harding. http://www.cheapnfljerseys2015.us.com/NIKE-NFL-JERSEYS_DALLA S-COWBOYS-JERSEY.html . Quebecor president Pierre Karl Peladeau stressed at a wide-ranging news conference that he will continue trying to bring an NHL team back to the city, once home to the Quebec Nordiques. He promised Tuesday to develop amicable ties with the league and lobby discreetly -- an oblique reference, perhaps, to the leagues long-running feud with billionaire businessman Jim Balsillie, who has loudly campaigned for another Canadian team. wholesale nfl jerseys .C. -- NASCAR honoured a pair of its most famous and successful families with inductions into the Hall of Fame on Wednesday. Cheap Cleveland Browns Jerseys . Johnson returned to practice this week and the Texans had hoped he would be able to play. He made progress, but Johnson said Friday that he would sit out another week.INDIANAPOLIS -- The NFL has cancelled next months rookie symposium, the first league event called off because of the lockout. League spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday the decision was made because of "the uncertainty of the labour issues we are facing and the logistical challenges of conducting the symposium." "The symposium is a large, complex event involving many professionals and others," he added. "In fairness, we could not continue to keep their commitment on hold." The symposium, which was to begin in Canton, Ohio, on June 26, instructs rookies in money management and life skills and allows them to meet current and former players. Teams and their draftees have not been allowed to communicate since the NFL gained a stay in court upholding the lockout. The leagues appeal of an injunction lifting it will be heard in U.S. District Court on June 3. "Obviously Im disappointed because I think the symposium is a valuable learning and bonding experience," player agent David Canter said. One of his clients, linebacker Doug Hogue, was drafted by Detroit. "Canceling the symposium is part of the issue related to the inability of the owners to put forth a deal that can get done in time so we cann get back to football and the business of football," Canter said. cheap jerseys from china. "Its all very upsetting and sad for all parties involved." Agent Ben Dogra, who along with partner Tom Condon represents five first-round draft choices this year, didnt expect the symposium to take place. "The truth is, how can you cancel an event that isnt supposed to happen anyway since there is a lockout," Dogra said. "The NFL is closed for business. Thus, to hold a rookie symposium wouldnt make any logical sense." Falcons first-round pick Julio Jones was unmoved by the cancellation of the symposium. "Im just really ready to play some football, but this is out of our hands," the former Alabama wide receiver said while working out in Buford, Ga. "The only thing we can do is just continue to get better." Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain was asked how much the rookie symposium benefited him last year after he was a first-round selection, also from the Crimson Tide. "I mean they try to give you an understanding of what its like to be a rookie, but a lot of that off-the-field stuff, thats just common sense," McClain said. "Stay out of trouble. Thats it. " ' ' '
