DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars three Olympians sent their team into the Olympic break on a high note Saturday night. nfl jerseys china . Finlands Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves to lead Dallas over the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 Saturday night. He received plenty of help from the Stars defence and got goals from Ray Whitney and Russias Valeri Nichushkin. Canadas Jamie Benn assisted on Whitneys goal. The victory moved Dallas into the eighth and final playoff position in the Western Conference for the first time this season. "Weve come from a long way," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "Youve got to give the guys credit for digging in. "I thought if we got within three or four points at the break, we could be a serious contender. Weve exceeded that." The Stars and Coyotes have identical 27-21-10 records for 64 points, but Dallas holds a tiebreaker over Phoenix, which fell to ninth. Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said his teams position at the break is "probably about where we should be. I think were better than that, but thats where we are." "Im not worrying about that too much yet," Lehtonen said of Dallas position in the standings. "Its good that were moving to the right direction. We just have to keep going." He was more impressed by defeating Phoenix twice in five days to make up four points on the Coyotes. "They were huge games both times. I really like it when we play well as a team." Dallas limited Phoenix to 27 shots, 13 in the third period. Lehtonen shut them out until Radim Vrbata scored on a power play with 15 seconds remaining. The Coyotes had six skaters to the Stars four because Tippett had pulled goalie Mike Smith, who had 31 saves. "Again (Lehtonen) was rock solid," said Ruff, an assistant coach for Canadas Olympic team. "He came up with some big saves. One when we were killing a penalty he went down low and made a glove save. He made a big stop on their breakaway when they were short-handed. "The only thing I would like to have seen was for him to get the shutout." "We couldnt generate too much offensively," Vrbata said. "But I think (Smiths) playing the way we know he can play. Hopefully, hes going to stay like that and we can do a little better for him." Whitney scored just 2:10 into the game. Nichushkin scored at 19:26 of the second period, deflecting in a shot by Trevor Daley. Dallas took the early lead when Whitney carried the puck into the Phoenix zone along the left side, skated into the slot and sent a wrist shot past Smith into the upper right corner of the net. "It was kind of not much happening in the first period until we decided we didnt want to back check on a play and give them the first goal," Tippett said. "That was something we talked about as a group, if we get behind its going to be much tougher on us." The Stars ended the first period a man up and put three shots on Smith for a 7-4 edge in shots. One of Dallas shots was short-handed, as the Stars made it difficult for the Coyotes to get out of their end. Midway through the second period, Dallas had two good scoring chances, but Smith gloved a high drive by Sergei Gonchar and stopped a tip-in attempt by Benn in front of the goal. Nichushkin deflected Daleys slap shot from the blue line for the rookies 13th goal with 34 seconds left in the second period for a 1-0 lead. The goal was reviewed to see whether Nichushkins deflection was on a high stick. NOTES: Whitney has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his last seven games against Phoenix. ... Stosur, the 2011 U.S. Open champion, broke her unseeded opponents serve seven times in the quarterfinal while never facing a break point herself. Stosur, ranked ninth in the world, will meet Kai-chen Chang of Taiwan on Saturday, after the unseeded Chang ousted eighth-seeded Laura Robson of Britain 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4).CARLSBAD, Calif. - Third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland overcame a first-set drubbing and a shoulder injury to beat eighth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 Friday in the quarter-finals at the Mercury Insurance Open. Radwanska advanced to her second semifinal this season after she seemed on the verge of getting run off the court by Hantuchova. Radwanska, the runner-up in this event last year, will face No. 2 seed Andrea Petkovic of Germany, who rolled over unseeded American teenager Sloane Stephens, 6-2, 6-1. With the score tied at two-all in the first set, Petkovic won nine consecutive games before Stephens finally took a game at 5-0 in the second set. The overmatched 18-year-old flashed a large smile as she jokingly raised both arms and shook them triumphantly. Top-seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia staved off three break points in the third set, then scored a key service break for a 4-3 lead en route to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over No. 12 seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany. "I think it was one of the most important moments in the match because you never want to go down a break in such a tight match and against a good server like Sabine," Zvonareva said. "After that, I didnt lose the concentration in the next game. I was able to break her right away and I think that was a key moment right there." After Zvonareva held serve for a 5-3 edge in the final set, she squandered two match points on Lisickis serve as the German got to 5-4. Zvonareva finally won on her serve in the next game after Lisicki saved two more matches before she hit a forehand long. Zvonarevas opponent in the semifinals will be fifth-seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. Ivanovic fell behind 4-1 to open the match and then won 11 of the last 13 games to beat No. 4 Peng Shuai of China. Ivanovic, the former world No. 1, showed flashes of her former brilliance with a much-improved serve and precision winners from both sides. "I started swinging a lot more," Ivanovic said of her rally from the 4-1 deficit. "I was a little bit pushing, a little bit not trying to make a mistake and tried to place the ball rather than just commit and hit. I started doing that and it made a difference." After winning just nine points in the first set, Radwanska called for a WTA trainer. The right-handed Radwanska is suffering from a nerve issue in her right shoulder that causes some difficulty, especially with her serve. After receiving treatment, Radwanskas game improved considerably in the second set. "After you lose 6-love, you really have nothing to lose," she said. "So, I start to play more aggressive. In my mind, it was just to play, win some games. I just feel more relaxed." Radwanska said she considered pulling out after the first set because her shoulder was "sore." "But then I had some chances, so I said, OK, a couple of more games," Radwanska said. She broke her Slovakian opponent in the 10th game, for the third time in the set, when she ripped a backhand winner on a second serve to take the second set. The players, doubles partners who won at Miami this season, were on serve in the third set until they traded breaks to get to 4-all. After Radwanska held serve, she finished it off on her first maatch point when Hantuchova hit a backhand crosscourt shot wide. jerseys from china. . Radwanska placed the odds of her being able to play in the semifinals at "50-50." Petkovic, 23, used her vast experience to overpower her younger opponent, who quickly fell out of the match. "I felt like in the beginning, the first maybe six games, it was a really tough battle," Petkovic said. "I think after I made the (service) break for 4-2, it was too much, just with the inexperience." Although the match was lopsided, Petkovic believes she received some value from her time on the court. "I think its very important when you play these young players to just sort of show whos the boss on the court," she said. "You keep up the intensity for every point."
