Canadas Alex Harvey was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the mens cross-country sprint at the Sochi Olympics on Tuesday, finishing fourth in his heat. Harvey, Canadas best hope for a medal in the event, needed to finish in the top-two of his heat or post one of the two best times out of the rest of the competitors to advance. He finished the race with a time of 3:37.89. Two Swedes posted the fastest times of the round in the third heat. Emil Joensson finished in 3:33.20 and teammate Teodor Peterson was right behind him with a time of 3:33.62. On the womens side two Canadians advanced to the quarter-finals, but couldnt get through their heats. Daria Gaiazova of Banff, Alta., finished fifth in the second grouping, and Perianne Jones of Almonte, Ont., placed fifth in the final heat. Norways Maiken Casperson Falla looks poised for a run at the gold, advancing in the first heat with the fastest time of the quarters, finishing at 2:33.23. She also had the fastest time in the qualifying round. U.S. skier Kikkan Randall, who was gunning to become the first American to win gold in cross country, made a surprising exit in the quarters after finishing fourth in the deepest heat of the round, which also sported top medal threats Denise Herrmann of Germany and Norways Marit Bjoergen, both of whom advanced. Canadian Chandra Crawford, the 2006 Olympic champion in the event, finished out of the top 30 in the qualifying round and didnt advance to the quarter-finals, placing 44th. Teammate Heidi Widmer finished just ahead of Crawford in 43rd. Eric Weddle Chargers Jersey . LOUIS -- Duke forward Jabari Parker has won the Wayman Tisdale Award, presented by the U.MONTREAL -- With three come-from-behind wins in the past week, the Hamilton Bulldogs are setting their sights on the post-season. Ian Schultz scored the shootout winner as the Bulldogs rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the St. Johns IceCaps 3-2 in American Hockey League action Friday. Brian Willsie and Garrett Stafford each scored in regulation and Nathan Lawson made 17 saves for Hamilton (25-24-5), including a game-saving stop late in overtime. The Bulldogs have now won four of their last five games. "I was disappointed with our last game because we didnt play the way we should be. And tonight, they responded against the best team in the league," said Hamilton head coach Clement Jodoin. "Even though we were behind, we kept competing and working. We found that urgency and took advantage of it." The two points moved the club to within five of the eighth seed in the AHLs Western Conference. Shawn Weller and Ben Maxwell scored for St. Johns and David Aebischer stopped 22 shots. The IceCaps (33-13-7) have now dropped two straight to Hamilton after winning the previous three, outscoring the Bulldogs 13-3 in that stretch. The game was played in the Bell Centre, home of the NHLs Montreal Canadiens. It marked the first time Habs fans got a live look at Blake Geoffrion, acquired a week earlier as part of a deal that sent veteran defenceman Hal Gill to the Nashville Predators. The grandson and great-grandson of Canadiens Hall of Famers Bernard (Boom Boom) Geoffrion and Howie Morenz admitted to nerves in his first-ever hockey game on Habs ice. "It felt like my first NHL game again, it was weird," he said with a laugh. "I didnt feel too comfortable (out) there for the first two periods, really.dddddddddddd" He did get things started for his team in the shootout, where the Bulldogs found themselves trailing 1-0. His goal was the first of four Hamilton would score to secure the win. "It was just a big weight lifted off my shoulders. I didnt play too well in the game but to help the team in the shootout and score the goal felt a lot better," said Geoffrion, who saw his three-game Bulldogs points streak (two goals, five assists) snapped. Weller took advantage of an odd bounce on a dump-in to opening the scoring early in the second. Lawson went behind the net to try to slow the puck down but it bounced out from the boards on to Wellers stick. The Bulldogs netminder dove to get back but couldnt get all the way over to keep the puck out of the net. Former Bulldog Maxwell made it 2-0 at 3:14 of the third period when he converted a cross-ice pass short-side. "The atmosphere on the bench was good, the spirit was good and I could feel it," Jodoin said. "When youre thinking in a positive way, anything can happen." After spending several shifts in the IceCaps end, Hamilton finally found the back of the net at 12:56 of the third. Willsie broke the shutout with a shot off a faceoff win by Phil DeSimone. Stafford tied the score 2-2 on the power play when he ripped a shot from just outside the faceoff circle at 18:18. And while the win was huge, Jodoin knows his team still has work to do. "The battles are not over yet. Theyre still going to get bigger and bigger," he said. "But, lets enjoy tonight. Sunday is another day, Monday is another one." ' ' '
