MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester City bowed out of the Champions League on Wednesday despite goals from David Silva and Yaya Toure giving it a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the teams final Group A match. With City needing victory over the already qualified German side to have any chance of progressing to the last 16, Silva put the Premier League leader ahead in the 37th minute with a low shot from the edge of the area. Toure doubled the advantage seven minutes after halftime. But Napolis 2-0 win at Villarreal put the Italians through at Citys expense, leaving the English clubs Italian manager Roberto Mancini to rue a missed opportunity. "I think the players deserve to play in the Champions League but thats it, we can do nothing in this moment and our lives continue," Mancini said. "Usually with 10 points 99 per cent of teams go through but in this group it was not enough." Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes was meanwhile looking ahead to the draw on Dec. 16. "We were in a very difficult group and weve won it, which means well play away first," Heynckes said. "With the team and squad Ive got, we can beat anyone." In the build-up to the game, Mancini had hinted that his team would be a little more cautious than it has been in previous weeks and the hosts were certainly made to wait for their opportunities. Sergio Aguero sent a header wide from close range from Samir Nasris cross from the right after five minutes. But otherwise City struggled to convert their greater possession into real chances. Heynckes made seven changes to the team that beat Werder Bremen 4-1 at the weekend but his team looked dangerous on the counter attack. Ivica Olic had a thumping effort turned away by City goalkeeper Joe Hart and David Alaba also missed from a narrow angle after a quick break. City had an effort disallowed when Silvas free kick found the top corner but French official Stephane Lannoy ruled that Joleon Lescott had fouled Bayern goalkeeper Jorg Butt. But City made its breakthrough in the 37th minute when Gareth Barry passed in-field from the right and Edin Dzeko flicked into Silva, who curled a shot past Butt. Before the interval they went close to doubling their lead when Aguero surged through and had an effort cleared off the line by former City defender Jerome Boateng. Silva was denied by Butt and Aguero also hit a curling shot just wide from a narrow angle. Danijel Pranjic threatened for the visitors just after the restart but City scored a second six minutes after half time. Toure collected a pass from Barry and found Aguero and the Argentina forwards first-time pass was guided on by Dzeko for Toure to stab a low shot past Butt. Alaba had a powerful effort turned away by Hart as the Germans pushed forward looking for a response. Nasri and Aguero were each unlucky not to add a third as City pressed for a third goal despite the knowledge that with Napoli winning 2-0 in Spain, their efforts were most likely in vain and would only result in a place in the Europa League. Looking ahead, Mancini was already aware of the inconvenience of Europes second-tier club competition. "The Europa League is harder because we play Thursday and wont have a lot of time to recover for the games," he said. "But this will be the only difference." Cheap A.J. Hawk Jersey . "It is my feeling the club is at a stage that is critical to our on-field expectations and this move was necessary," Hervey told a news gathering hours after he informed Reed he was gone after three years as head coach. http://www.authenticpackersjerseysteamshop.com/T-Shirts . The former world No. 1 Djokovic, who is the top seed here despite being ranked No. 2, snuck past 35-year-old Czech showman Radek Stepanek in four high- quality sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), on Centre Court. Keith Aulie and Mike Zigomanis were both assigned to the Marlies, while Darryl Boyce, Joey Crabb and Matt Lashoff were placed on waivers. "You see a jersey in your stall and there you go," said Frattin excitedly. "Didnt get called into the [coachs] office so I was definitely excited about that." "I think if I wasnt going to be here now I was pretty close," added Gardiner. "Either way I wouldve been happy. Im obviously a lot more happy now." A long-shot to make the team amongst a sea of more experienced blueliners, Gardiner – the 17th overall pick in 2008 – enjoyed a standout preseason, totaling five points in six games. His poise with the puck, knack for joining the play, and speedy stride convinced Leafs brass that he was ready for NHL action immediately. Hell begin the season paired with veteran Mike Komisarek. "Hes been excellent up to this point," said Ron Wilson, following a lengthy two-session practice at Mastercard Centre on Monday afternoon. "Id have to say hes been the biggest surprise of our training camp, of how well he played, so hes earned a the spot on the team." Frattin meanwhile, showed impressive versatility in seven exhibition games – notching two goals and five points – bouncing effectively from third line duty to spot stints on the top line with Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin. Clarke MacArthurs two-game suspension lands him a spot on the top unit when the season opens against Montreal on October 6th. "Mattys done a really good job of playing in any role," said Wilson. "Right side, left side, hes killed some penalties, been on the poower-play and with Clarke out its a logical move to get him up in the lineup.ddddddddddddquot; Of the five cuts made on Monday, Aulie was certainly the most unlikely – at least when training camp began. The 22-year-old was pegged to join Dion Phaneuf on the top pairing – after a successful second half together last season – but struggled during the exhibition campaign and was surpassed by Gardiner for a spot on the roster. With only 40 games of NHL experience under his belt, hell certainly benefit from heavy duty under Dallas Eakins with the Marlies. "Theres no reason why he got beat out other than Jake had a really good camp [and] were a little bit deeper on the back-end," said Wilson. "Were not discouraged at all by Keiths play. He just wasnt as good as Jake right now. I anticipate him being back sooner than later." Aulie is replaced by the steady Carl Gunnarsson alongside Phaneuf. John-Michael Liles and Luke Schenn assume the other pairing, while Cody Franson enters the season as the seventh defenceman. Boyce may have been the most difficult cut for Wilson. Last season, the 27-year-old jumped from near-anonymity with the Marlies into a fourth-line job for 46 games. He was beaten out by Phillipe Dupuis, who earned a slight edge for his penalty killing experience in Colorado last season. -- Injuries certainly muddled Wilsons training camp and have the roster in limbo with the season set to open on Thursday. Tim Connolly sat out practice again on Monday (upper-body) and was dubbed "50/50 right now" to play on opening night according to Wilson. Tyler Bozak – who was also injured during the preseason – has temporarily assumed his spot alongside Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul. Matthew Lombardi meanwhile, is likely going to begin the season with the teams fourth line, as they attempt to ease him back into more regular duty. Lombardi missed 80 games last season with a concussion. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
