INDIANAPOLIS -- Trent Richardson wanted more work in Cleveland. Hes about to get his wish in Indianapolis. Less than two weeks after being traded from the Browns, the 2012 first-round draft pick will be given more carries and a bigger role Sunday after starter Ahmad Bradshaw was ruled out with a neck injury. Richardson, who has been studying his playbook relentlessly, said hes ready. "Ive been learning the game plan every day and sticking my face in that playbook two hours after practice, an hour before practice, at the meetings and stuff," Richardson said. "Ive been studying hard so I feel like that work load, Im ready to go for it." The Colts (2-1) dont have much choice. Their original starter, Vick Ballard, went down with a season-ending knee injury before Indys second game. Bradshaw started in a loss to Miami and again last week against San Francisco, four days after the Colts sent a 2014 first-round pick to Cleveland for Richardson. Bradshaw responded with his best game since joining the Colts in June, rushing 19 times for 95 yards and a late touchdown. But he took a big shot early in the game. Initially, he tried to get up before falling to his knees. Coach Chuck Pagano wouldnt say whether that was the play on which Bradshaw was injured. So when the Colts practiced Friday, the only healthy running backs on the active roster were Richardson, Donald Brown, another former first-rounder, and fullback Stanley Havili. Indy could activate rookie Kerwynn Williams, a seventh-round draft pick, from the practice squad. Pagano wouldnt say if the Colts would do that or how the carries would be split up, only that Richardson has to be ready for more work at winless Jacksonville (0-3). "Hes got no choice," Pagano said when asked if Richardson had enough time to learn the offence. "David Walker is a great football coach and a great teacher. He did an unbelievable job getting Trent ready for last Sunday and hell do the same for this week. Between him and Donnie and the rest of the crew, well go down there and hopefully get the job done." Bradshaw wont be the only starter missing Sunday. Pagano said Pro Bowl safety LaRon Landry would miss his second straight game with an ankle injury, while defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois was ruled out with a groin injury. Jean Francois left the San Francisco game early. Neither has practiced this week because of the injuries. Last week, Delano Howell replaced Landry and played well as the Colts turned in their best defensive game of the season. For Richardson, though, this is his first big chance to show the Colts he can be the workhorse back they expect. Last week, he carried 13 times for 35 yards and scored on a 1-yard run on his first carry with the Colts, and was brought in to help pass protect when the 49ers blitzed. This week, hell be asked to do even more, and Richardson cant wait. "I think every playbook runs some of the same plays as far as running, just with different terminology," he said. "Staying with that, youre going to have your inside zones, outside zones, your powers. But in the passing game, youve just got to know what youre doing." NOTES: Indy listed safety Joe Lefeged as questionable with a knee injury, and receiver T.Y. Hilton as probable with a toe injury. ... Three more starters -- linebacker Pat Angerer (knee), safety Antoine Bethea (toe) and centre Samson Satele (elbow) -- are probable. wholesale jerseys . Another chance to play New Yorks other team provided an even bigger lift. Backup goalie Sergei Bobrovsky continued his superlative play against the Islanders, stopping 33 shots, and the Flyers won for the 26th time in 28 games against Long Islands team, 3-2 on Thursday night. The Flyers fourth win in five games since the outdoor game at Citizens Bank Park on Jan. 2 moved Philadelphia within two points of the Atlantic Division-leading Rangers, who lost 3-0 to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. Scott Hartnell, Wayne Simmonds and Sean Couturier scored for the Flyers. Kyle Okposo and John Tavares had goals for the Islanders. "I dont know what it is, we just have their number," Hartnell said. "Its hard to explain that kind of dominance. We worked hard and played a strong game." The Flyers (26-12-4) have won 12 of 13 on Long Island. New York (15-20-6) had won three straight at home, including a 5-1 victory over Detroit on Tuesday. Bobrovsky stopped Michael Grabner on a penalty shot 2:49 in and made a spectacular glove save on the Islanders right wing late in the second. "He made big saves at the right moments," Flyers forward Max Talbot said. "He won the game for us." The 23-year-old Russian, who backs up countryman Ilya Bryzgalov, has tormented the Islanders since joining the Flyers before last season as a free agent. Bobrovsky (10-3-1) is 7-0 against New York. "Hes been strong for us, no doubt. He was really sharp," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. "And hes been terrific against the Islanders." Hartnells power-play goal at 17:20 of the first period put Philadelphia ahead after Islanders goalie Evgeni Nabokov was whistled for tripping. Hartnells team-leading 19th of the season came off a pass from Jaromir Jagr, who has more points against the Islanders than any team during his 19-year NHL career. New York was 0-for-4 on the power play.dddddddddddd "I was pleased with our work ethic," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "Bottom line is they scored a power-play goal and we didnt. It came down to special teams." Simmonds banked a shot off of Nabokovs skate at 13:08 of the second for his 11th of the season after Nabokov fumbled the puck behind the net and had trouble getting back into position in the crease. "This one is tough to swallow because I thought we played really well," said Nabokov, who was denied his 300th NHL victory. "We just have to keep working hard and try again on Saturday night back here against Buffalo." Okposo ruined Bobrovskys bid for his first career shutout 22 seconds into the third when he knocked in the rebound of a shot by Andrew MacDonald for his 10th goal. Tavares scored with 17 seconds left to make it 3-2 after Couturier netted his eighth of the season to give Philadelphia a two-goal lead with 1:30 remaining. "I did see many positives from us," Islanders defenceman and captain Mark Streit said. "We battled hard and played physical. We just have to find more consistency at a high level." Tavares assist on Okposos goal extended his point streak to a career-best seven games. Tavares, selected earlier Thursday to play in his first NHL All-Star game, has four goals and 10 assists during the spurt. Talbot was shaken up late in the game after a punishing hit along the boards in the Philadelphia zone by Islanders defenceman Steve Staois. Talbot seemed stunned, and temporarily was unable to stand on his skates. The play went unpenalized. Talbot returned and was on the ice when Couturier scored what proved to be the winning goal. NOTES: Tavares will be the Islanders lone representative at the all-star game this month at Ottawa. ... Philadelphia has won four of five since the Winter Classic. ... Jagr has 59 goals and 83 assists in 93 games against the Islanders. ... New York is 1-18-5 against Philadelphia since the end of the 2006-07 season. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
