Its been nearly 30 years (1982) since a team has won three straight Grey Cups and over 51 years (1956) since a team has beaten the same opponent in the final game of the post-season for three straight seasons. But both of those scenarios could once again occur in 2011. Seven months ago the Montreal Alouettes beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the Grey Cup for the second straight year, and their title defence begins Thursday as Week One of the 2011 season kicks off on TSN. But as Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman likes to remind his players, every year is a new year and there are three other teams vying to represent the CFLs East Division in the 99th Grey Cup. In the West, the Roughriders and Calgary Stampeders will battle it out for the other spot in the Grey Cup game, with challenges coming from improved B.C. Lions and Edmonton Eskimos squads. So our question to you is: who will meet in this years Grey Cup? Once again the Als enter the season as the favourites in the East. Trestmans adage that success doesnt carry over from year to year may never be more relevant than it is now, heading into 2011. Montreal has a different look offensively, with former mainstays like Ben Cahoon and Avon Cobourne no longer on the team. But the most important piece is still there, and if Anthony Calvillo can develop the kind of magic he had with the Cahoons and Cobournes with this years crop of offensive weapons, the Als will have a great chance to play for their third Grey Cup in as many years. Heading up the list of challengers for the Als in the East are the Toronto Argonauts, who went from basement dwellers in 2009 to East Division finalists in 2010. If the Double Blue continue to improve in head coach Jim Barkers second season with the team, a spot in the Grey Cup game may not be out of reach. The Argos defence will be solid and their special teams possibly even better. But the main questions revolve around their offence. If they can improve on their league-worst offensive numbers of a year ago, theyll certainly have a shot to be a player in the East come playoff time. The question in Hamilton this year - as it has been the previous two years - is will this be the year the Tiger-Cats finally get over the hump? Kevin Glenn is coming off one of the best years of his career and he has a new offensive weapon in Cobourne, the former Alouette. On defence, the Ticats linebacking corps will likely once again be among the leagues best. For the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, they will likely go as far as the health of starting quarterback Buck Pierce will take them. The Blue Bombers are solid at a number of positions - Fred Reid led the league in rushing last year and Odell Willis is one of the best coming off the edge on the defensive side of the ball - but if Pierce is on the bench for any extended period of time, Winnipegs chances take a big hit. Although Pierce has a long history of injuries - including missing all but five games last year - he enters this season feeling completely healthy, a big boon for the Bombers. If Saskatchewan is to make it to their third straight Grey Cup, theyll have to do with a new head coach in Greg Marshall. Aside from Miller, the Riders also lost key contributors in Andy Fantuz and Jeremy ODay but managed to fill some of their voids through free agency. And as long as Darian Durant is under centre, the Riders offence should perform well enough to keep them in the conversation all year long. The Calgary Stampeders will once again be among the favourites in the West. The Stampeders won the Grey Cup just three years ago and finished first in the West Division last year before getting upset by Saskatchewan in the West final. The Stamps lost a number of key players over the off-season, most notably to their o-line and secondary. But much like the Roughriders, they have an All-Star QB in Henry Burris and an offence that can keep them in every game all season long. It looks like the B.C. Lions have finally found their man in quarterback Travis Lulay. Perhaps his greatest asset is that players want to play for Lulay and make plays for him, something that a few Lions quarterbacks over the past few years may not have shared. Although they lost receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux to the NFL in the off-season, B.C. had a strong free agent haul and appear primed to continue building off their late-season success of a year ago. Whether that leads to a spot representing the West in the Grey Cup is yet to be seen. The Eskimos hired general manager Eric Tillman midway through last season and this will be the first official year of the rebuild in Edmonton. With a new coaching staff and a revamped roster, its hard to pinpoint how well the Eskimos will do in 2011. Edmontons roster will be younger this year, with a number of high draft picks expected to make an impact on the field early on. While this is just the first full year of the Tillman era in Edmonton, there are some talented holdovers - Ricky Ray and Fred Stamps to name two - that could help the Eskimos sneak into the playoffs. From there, anything is possible. Do you see the Alouettes and Roughriders meeting in the Grey Cup for the third straight year? Or will there be a different matchup competing to be crowned CFL Champions this year? As always, its Your! Call. wholesale nfl jerseys .
