Stillwater, OK (Sports Network) - Brandon Weeden tossed four touchdowns in the first quarter as the sixth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys dominated the Kansas Jayhawks, 70-28, in a clash between Big 12 teams. Weeden completed 24-of-28 passes for 288 yards and five touchdowns in less than two quarters before being replaced by Clint Chelf after the Cowboys (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) had taken a commanding lead. Chelf went 14-for-21 through the air for 206 yards and two scores. Hubert Anyiam and Justin Blackmon each caught two TDs for Oklahoma State. "We were ahead far enough to where there was no reason to leave him in the game and we could take everybody out," Oklahoma head coach Mike Gundy said about Weeden. "Chelf made some good throws." Jordan Webb threw for 316 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions on 25-of-36 passing as the Jayhawks (2-3, 0-2) dropped their third straight game. Tim Biere caught seven passes for 93 yards and a score, and JaCorey Shepherd caught three balls for 82 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort. "The loss definitely hurts, but we need to keep our heads up and continue to fight," Webb said. Kansas took the early lead with an 80-yard opening drive that resulted in a 10-yard strike from Webb to Biere. Bieres 35-yard grab highlighted the 10- play drive. But Oklahoma State answered with a scoring drive of its own. The possession started at the Cowboys 40 after the Jayhawks kickoff went out of bounds. Weeden then connected on five straight passes before finding Josh Cooper in the end zone for a 12-yard score. A Tony Pierson fumble on the first play of Kansas next possession gave Oklahoma State the ball deep in Jayhawks territory, and Weeden found Blackmon for a 24-yard score three plays later to put the Cowboys ahead 14-7. After forcing a Kansas punt, Anyiam pulled in a 56-yard catch before grabbing a two-yard TD to extend the Cowboys lead. Kansas was held to another three-and-out, and Oklahoma State capped a five- play scoring drive with a 38-yard rush by Jeremy Smith. Brodrick Browns interception gave Oklahoma State the ball at the Kansas 25 before Anyiam snagged a three-yard score from Weeden to make it a 35-7 game at the end of the first quarter. Oklahoma State took its first possession of the second quarter 80 yards down the field, ending with Joseph Randle rumbling into the end zone from two yards out. Webb lost a fumble and tossed an interception on Kansas next two possessions, resulting in a one-yard TD catch by Blackmon from Weeden and a 24-yard scoring grab by Ian Anderson from Chelf to increase the Cowboys lead to 56-7 at the half. "We just turned the ball over. We all know you cant turn the ball over three or four times against a great football team like they are," said Kansas head coach Turner Gill. "They showed they take advantage of the opportunities." Oklahoma State was forced to punt on its first possession of the second half and it was blocked by Nick Sizemore. Three plays later, James Sims scampered in for a 17-yard score. After the teams traded punts, the Cowboys drove 73 yards on five plays, resulting in a 30-yard catch by Michael Harrison to make it a 63-14 game. Alex Mueller missed a 36-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the third quarter, and Oklahoma State took the ensuing drive down the field thanks to long receptions by Harrison and Josh Stewart. Herschel Sims pushed his way in for the score from one-yard out to cap the drive. Kansas added touchdowns on a Shepherd 68-yard catch and a 31-yard Pierson rush to finalize the scoring. For one, he still gets to crank the intensity to the max. "I push pretty angry. I ran pretty angry too though, but I have fun doing it," Lumsden said. "Its kind of an oxymoron but I dont know, it makes sense to me. Im grinding teeth and snorting and foaming at the mouth when Im pushing. "Like when I had the opportunity to hit somebody in front of me, I loved it. I loved that feeling of catching somebody on their heels and just going straight through them." Lumsden spent parts of six seasons in the Canadian Football League before retiring in 2011 after a few injury-plagued campaigns. His transition to the winter sports scene has been a smooth one. The six-foot-two, 223-pound brakeman from Burlington, Ont., first gave bobsled a try in 2009. He had aspirations of becoming a pilot but coaches told him his skills were best suited for the back of the sled. He took the news in stride and soon became one of the sports elite pushers. Lumsden qualified for the 2010 Olympic team in the two-man and four-man sleds, finishing fifth in both events. The 31-year-old Calgary resident has blossomed over the last few seasons, winning silver at the world championship last year and taking the World Cup title last season with pilot Lyndon Rush of Humboldt, Sask. The strong Canadian team tinkered with its lineup this season, with Lumsden now in the two-man sled with Calgarys Chris Spring. They won bronze at the season opener last month in Calgary and nearly reached the podium in the four-man event as well with a fourth-place result. With the season approaching the halfway point, Lumsden and Spring are third overall in the standings. "Were on the right path of where we need to be going," Lumsden said Thursday at a promotional event at a downtown mall..dddddddddddd "Obviously the end of the road is Sochi and things are progressing nicely." The camaraderie that Lumsden experienced during his football days is much the same on the bobsled team. There is a great chemistry on the squad and a real sense of unity. Lumsden and Spring have been teaming with Ottawas Cody Sorensen and Saskatoons Ben Coakwell in the four-man sled. The other two-man sleds include Rush with Calgarys Lascelles Brown and the duo of Edmontons Bryan Barnett and Justin Kripps of Summerland, B.C. The womens team is led by the powerhouse pairing of reigning Olympic champions Heather Moyse of Summerside, P.E.I., and Kaillie Humphries of Calgary, who won gold at the season opener. Spring was born in Australia and became a Canadian citizen earlier this year. The third-place result at Canada Olympic Park was significant because it was his first World Cup medal with Lumsden. "Hes athletic so he contributes on the push as well," Lumsden said of his teammate. "He just has a presence about him thats very positive. Its confidence. Its not a cockiness but its a solid confidence that makes you feel good." Lumsden spent seven hours a day training in the off-season and has the chiselled physique to prove it. He generates his explosiveness from a rock-solid lower body and blasts out of the start area with a vengeance. He showed off that power last month in Calgary when he won the WinSport World Push Challenge to kick off the new season. Lumsden was formally named to the Olympic team this week. He learned a lot from the Vancouver experience but didnt feel a lot of pressure because he was so green. Things will be different when the Sochi Games begin Feb. 7. Lumsden is confident that hell be ready. "Theres more on the line this time around because I have invested my four years into it," he said. "This is my passion. This is what I love to do." cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
