CHICAGO -- Josh McCown spent a few quiet moments trying to figure out what would happen. He probably didnt envision this. The Bears waited out a long rain delay and put in extra time to come away with a much-needed win. Robbie Gould kicked a 38-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Bears to a 23-20 victory over Baltimore Sunday in a game delayed about two hours by a torrential downpour. Justin Tucker tied it for the Ravens with a 21-yard field goal at the end of regulation. The big delay came after Tucker kicked a 52-yarder with 4:51 remaining in the first quarter. Fans were ordered to take cover as players headed to the locker rooms while heavy rains and winds whipped through Soldier Field. They emerged about two hours later with the sky clearing and the sun coming out, but the rain and wind returned in the third quarter, turning the stands into a sea of ponchos. During the delay, Bears players stretched and went over the game plan. "Closed my eyes and just trying to think about the game, visualize the game a little bit," McCown said. "And kind of assess what happened the first two series. What did we do wrong? Why werent we moving the ball? What are they going to do to us?" Ravens coach John Harbaugh wouldnt say what his team did during the down time, although his team is no stranger to delays. The Ravens experienced a power outage in the Super Bowl, after all, and the start of their season-opener at Denver was pushed back by lightning. Both were just 34 minutes, though. "I think weve led the league in delays over the last few years," Harbaugh said. Gould won it with a 38-yarder on third-and-8 at the 20 with 8:41 left in OT after McCown connected with a leaping Martellus Bennett on a 43-yard pass to put the ball on the 22, and the Bears (6-4) came away with the win after dropping four of six. They were leading 20-17 with 10:33 remaining in regulation after Matt Forte scored on a 14-yard screen from McCown, dodging three or four defenders along the way, but the Ravens (4-6) made one big push down the stretch to send it to overtime. They drove from the 16 to the 2, getting a one-handed catch from Dallas Clark on a fourth down at 44. After Joe Flacco overthrew Torrey Smith in the back of the end zone on third down, Tucker tied it at 20-all with 3 seconds left. McCown threw for 216 yards without an interception, subbing for Jay Cutler (high left ankle sprain). In four games and two starts, he has five touchdowns and no turnovers, and he came through under brutal conditions. "Its definitely one of those days where you look across the field and (see) Joe Flacco and look on the sideline and Jays over there," McCown said. "And Im like, Can I borrow somebodys arm?" Alshon Jeffery had seven catches for 83 yards. Forte added 42 receiving and 83 rushing. Julius Peppers had two sacks. David Bass returned an interception for a touchdown, and Jonathan Bostic set up a field goal by Gould at the end of the first half with an interception. The Ravens were able to get their ground game going, with Ray Rice rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown against a team thats struggled to stop the run. He scored from the 1 early on after a 47-yard dash on Baltimores first drive. But Flacco had a rough day, throwing for 162 yards and getting picked off twice. "Every time you get the ball, it either was wet or had all kinds of mud on it," he said. "It was an issue for the timing stuff, getting a grip on it quick enough." The Bears scored 10 points in a 12-second stretch in the second quarter, on a 20-yard field goal by Gould and a 24-yard interception return by Bass. He picked off Flacco at the line and ran untouched to the end zone, Chicagos fourth interception return for a TD this season, but Baltimore immediately answered with an 80-yard scoring drive. Flacco lofted a 5-yard scoring pass between two defenders to Smith to put the Ravens back on top, 17-10, with 4:08 left in the half. But an interception at midfield by Bostic with a minute left led to a 46-yard field goal by Gould as time expired, making it a four-point game at the half. And what a strange half it was. Play was stopped just after 12:30 p.m. CT and didnt resume until 2:25. There were reports of at least one tornado touching down in Illinois and extensive damage in at least one part of the state. At Soldier Field, long lines formed in the upper deck as drenched fans tried to make their way toward the tunnel with lightning striking near the stadium. "It was pretty muddy, windy," Bennett said. "I feel like Ive been fishing all day." NOTES: Bears DT Stephen Paea left the game with a toe injury. ... Pavano kept up his recent surge with an efficient six-hitter for the Twins in a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.I saw three very good football games for three completely different reasons. Indianapolis 34 - Seattle 28, Denver 51 - Dallas 48 and the one I always enjoy the most, Sunday Night Football, San Francisco 34 - Houston 3. How about Andrew Luck in Indianapolis? He scored 34 points on a very good defence on and was a part of a win against a very good team. Now everyone says how lucky the Colts are to have Luck but in many ways, it goes both ways. With the Colts, you have Chuck Pagano as a head coach and we all know what he has been through. Enough said. Pagono is a relationship builder and, in a performance-based sport, he enhances confidence as opposed to always testing confidence. One of the reasons that Luck is so good, so fast is talent yes, but also he is not afraid to fail. The guy who calls the shots has his back. An opposite of that could be Greg Schiano of Tampa Bay. Josh Freeman has some issues but were they that insurmountable? The 49ers are paying Aldon Smith his full contract while he gets it together. Players notice that type of benevolence and realize that maybe, just maybe, the organization is with them as much as trying to get the most out of them. Tony Dungy was like that, Tom Landry behind the public eye too and both won Super Bowls. Pagano gets it that, yes, they are football players but they are also people playing football. In Dallas I cant imagine what it must be like to be Tony Romo. Every newspaper, every radio station and any sports on TV is about you and the mistake. I saw it too, but I also saw a player by the name of Danny Trevathan make a spectacular interception. His body was parallel to the ground when he caught the ball. It was amazing interception to win the game. Yes, Romo makes a critical mistake in key games and I am sure there is a team of psychologists that would love to get him on the couch. But Romo threw for 506 yards, making play after play in a great game. I will take that over one moment of misjudgment any time. Dallas is a dangerous team. They need Anthony Spencer back but have improved in the interior offensive line and Doug Free at right tackle is grading out well. How scary was it to see Peyton Manning get his hhead twisted on the pass rush? I guarantee you he will be checked out 20 times by next game.dddddddddddd In San Francisco, the 49ers are back. In the battle between the zone blocking of Houston vs. the complex man-on-man blocking of the 49ers, the man-on-man system won. Both systems work but to run the blocking patterns that the 49ers run stuns me. There is so much line of scrimmage adjustment that goes on, so much communication, that often you lose your aggressive desire because you have to think so much. Not San Francisco. They attack and, in a game that Colin Kaepernick did not complete many passes, the 49ers offensive line had a spectacular evening. Finally, J.J. Watt has it all: speed, quickness, strength, emotional intensity and maintains it for four full quarters. But Watt may also have the most polished defensive tackle and defensive end technique I have ever seen. His upper body and lower body are perfectly coordinated on pass rush moves and plays with exceptional leverage against the run. Watt is so hard to block because on one play, it it like trying to block a brahma bull on a bad day and the next, its like trying to block a butterfly just minding its own business. The technique used by football players who do not touch the football is not noticed or respected because it just looks like two big bodies running into each other. But Watts greatest asset is his skill set; how he uses his body to disengage and get to the ball. He could put on a clinic. Hes a very smart football players in how he keeps an opponent off balance. As good as Watt has been, Im not sure how to handle Matt Schaub at quarterback. Hes had four interceptions returned for touchdowns, which is mentally tough to overcome as you start trying to avoid mistakes, the opposite of playing with confidence. Houston does have St. Louis at home next week but for Gary Kubiack, this is a tough one. Kubiack is a former quarterback so his decision will be the right one because it is based on experience, not emotion. The best game of Week 6 should be New 0rleans at New England with the Patriots coming off a loss, and Washington at Dallas with the Redskins coming off the bye. Looking forward to it. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
