BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jason Pominville received a warm welcome in his return to Buffalo and left his former team still searching for its first win of the season. Pominville, a former Sabres captain, scored the winning goal in the Minnesota Wilds 2-1 victory over the winless Sabres on Monday night. "It tops off a pretty emotional day in a great way," said Pominville, who played his first game in Buffalo since he was traded to Minnesota last April for centre Johan Larsson, Rochester goalie Matt Hackett, a first-round pick that was used on defenceman Nikita Zadorov and a second-round selection. "So many good memories in this building. Its nice to get another one." Pominville scored on the power play with 9.7 seconds left in the second period to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead. Mikko Koivu and Jared Spurgeon assisted on the goal. Kyle Brodziak also scored for Minnesota (3-1-2). Josh Harding made 22 saves. Buffalo (0-6-1) tied a franchise record for its longest winless streak to start a season. The Sabres were 0-5-2 in 1999 and 0-4-3 in 1990. The Sabres came into the game allowing an average of 37 shots on goal, but held Minnesota to just 16. Buffalo failed to take advantage, however, and went 0-4 on the power play. "There were many moments in the game where I dont feel that our execution was at its best, but the bottom line is we did enough good things to win this hockey game," Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said. "I thought special teams was critical." Brian Flynn lifted Buffalo into a 1-1 tie with 4:56 to go in the second period, scoring his first of the season off an assist from Zemgus Girgensons. The Sabres are a young team that is having trouble scoring. They have just seven goals through seven games, another franchise record for futility. "Youre not going to win many games scoring one goal," Sabres coach Ron Rolston said. "We need our top six to step up." Pominville empathized with his former teammates. "Its tough for the group of guys that have been here a while," he said. "The team is going through a little bit of a rebuild, trusting a lot of younger players. Its going to be a process for them. "I definitely feel for the guys that have been here a long time. They are competitors, they want to win, and right now its not going their way. But Im sure theyll stick with it and find a way to turn it around." Pominville, who spent 12 years in the Sabres organization, ranks 12th on the teams career list in goals (185) and points (456). He received a warm ovation from the fans when his name was announced in the starting lineup. He then drew boos after he scored the go-ahead goal. "Weve very happy for him," Yeo said. "Hes a guy that brings so much to our team, so much to our locker room. Hes a guy that you just want to go out and help him." Brodziak gave the Wild an early lead with his first of the season, scoring from the right circle on a delayed penalty five minutes in. Matt Cooke and Jonas Brodin assisted on the goal, Brodziaks first of the season. Jonas Enroth started in place of No. 1 Sabres goalie Ryan Miller and made 18 saves. "Its going to be hard to win with only one goal scorer," Enroth said. "At the same time, I think we played pretty well. We were in charge pretty much the whole game. So its a good sign, I think." NOTES: Buffalo D Henrik Tallinder returned to the lineup after missing four games with an upper body injury. The Sabres sent Alexander Sulzer to Rochester of the AHL to make room on the roster. . Minnesota D Nate Prosser was a healthy scratch for the sixth straight game. . Pominville has now scored against all 30 NHL teams. . The start of the second period was delayed 16 minutes because of a lighting malfunction. Alex Smith Womens Jersey . After a wildly entertaining overtime, though, the Chicago Blackhawks got back to their winning ways. Patrick Kane set up Johnny Oduyas goal late in the second period and then got the decisive score in the shootout, leading the Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. Frankie Hammond Jersey .C. - Benn Ferrieros goal at 2:22 of overtime lifted the Utica Comets to a 1-0 win over the Abbotsford Heat in American Hockey League action Friday. Justin Houston Jersey . That was in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs last season, which San Antonio won in six games. On Friday night, defence took over, particularly in the final 2:23, when the two teams were a combined 0 for 8 from the field. RALEIGH, N.C. -- Bruce Boudreau was pleased with the results of the Ducks eight-game road trip. Saku Koivu scored the only goal in the shootout as the Ducks earned a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night, finishing the road trip with a 5-1-2 record. It was the first road win in extra time this season for the Ducks, who are 2-22-2 when trailing after two periods. "We could have won all eight, you know?" said Boudreau, who joined the Ducks as coach on Nov. 29 after Randy Carlyle was fired and is 19-12-6. "We outplayed Detroit, we outplayed New Jersey, and I think we outplayed Tampa (Wednesday) night. "I was really hoping we could reach 60 points and still be in the hunt (the Ducks have 62). To get more than that was really great." Corey Perry, who scored his 30th goal for his third career 30-goal season, and Luca Sbisa scored in regulation for Anaheim while Jerome Samson and Jamie McBain scored for Carolina. Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller (23-20-10) had 30 saves. "I kind of saw we werent playing our best game tonight and the guys looked a little tired," Hiller said. "That was not too surprising after such a long trip. (Carolina) had a couple of really good chances -- odd-man rushes and two-on-ones -- and I just didnt want to get scored on. We played better in the third and that changed the game around." Carolina goalie Justin Peters (35 saves) started his second straight game and played in his fourth straight as Cam Ward remained out with a lower-body injury. The Hurricanes Jiri Tlusty assisted on Samsons goal to extend his scoring streak to nine games, two short of the longest streak since the club moved to North Carolina from Hartford, Conn.dddddddddddd, in 1997. Eric Staal assisted on Samsons first-period goal, extending his scoring streak to seven games and his assist streak to six. "Im pretty happy with our group because (Anaheim) is a good hockey team," said Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller, also a midseason replacement for Paul Maurice who was fired Nov. 28. "Theyre big. Theyre one of the hottest teams in the league right now." Carolina led 1-0 and 2-1 before Perry got the tying goal on a power play at 9:35 of the third period, picking his rebound out of the air and flipping the puck over Peters left shoulder. The goal came on the third of four third-period power plays for Anaheim. "One was bound to go in (on the power play)," Perry said. "We were shooting a lot of chances. You keep working on it and its going to come. I just went up in the air and my first instinct is to hit it. It fluttered over his shoulder and found a way in." NOTES: Hurricanes radio broadcaster Chuck Kaiton called his 2,900th NHL game. ... It was the second game of the Hurricanes six-game homestand. ... Carolina RW Tuomo Ruutu (upper body), who signed a four-year contract on Wednesday, was scratched for his fourth straight game. ...
