And with that 19 second video made for Twitter, perhaps the largest personality in the history of the NBA and definitely the most gigantic man ever to play the game said goodbye. Still as fun and jubilant now as he was when he entered the league out of LSU as the top pick in the 1993 entry draft, injuries and age sapped the fuel out of the Diesel, still widely considered the most unstoppable force the NBA has ever seen. In just over 1,200 regular season games, ONeal finished just four points shy of 29,000 for his career, which puts him fifth all-time, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain. Its a total (not counting what LeBron James will do the rest of his career) that will likely only be surpassed by former teammate and current Laker Kobe Bryant. It was with the Lakers that ONeal added team success to his already dominant game. Beginning in the Summer of 2000, he, Bryant and head coach Phil Jackson would capture three consecutive championships. It was the same season that ONeal picked up his first and league MVP title, scoring just less than 30 points per game and adding more than 13 rebounds per contest. ONeal was the centerpiece in each title run. Save for the final two years of his career, where his output and diminished starring role were evident, ONeals career has been staggering. From his first season in the league, he ran off 13 consecutive years where he averaged no less than 20 points and 10 rebounds per contest. Over that span, he averaged more than 29 points per game three times, more than 28 twice, more than 27 twice, and more than 26 three times. He ends his career with a 23.7 ppg. avg., and just under 11 rebounds a game. In 216 career playoff games, he averaged 24.3 ppg. and nearly 12 rebounds per. He was also a 15-time all-star. Numbers alone make him a first ballot entry into the Basketball Hall of Fame. But it was his personality, actions and entertainment value that vaulted him into a class of his own. There were the nicknames: The Big Aristotle, Shaq Daddy, The Big Shamrock, The Big Cactus, Witness Protection and Superman, just to name a few. There were the candid clips, ripping on Erick Dampier and calling out the Sacramento Queens. There was the feud with Kobe and that infamous club rap. There was the horri-awful issue with Craig Sagers jacket and his larger-than-life dancing, just to name a few.
