CALGARY -- Randy Chevrier has been on both sides of Labour Day hostilities between the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Eskimos. He was an Eskimo for an on-field fracas in 2003. It started with Edmonton quarterback Ricky Ray getting pushed out of bounds and ended with teammate Ed Hervey -- now the Esks general manager -- swinging his helmet at Davis Sanchez and hitting an official instead. "I was right there on the sideline when I dont know who it was that pushed Ricky through the Gatorade table," Chevrier recalled Sunday at McMahon Stadium. "The next thing you know it was a brawl on the sideline, then it spilled out to the middle of the field and then Ed trying to swing his helmet at Davis and it hit the ref. It was a total crazy, boiled-over type of tension. It was pretty awesome." A few Labour Day games later, Chevrier was a Stampeder witnessing a pre-game confrontation between teammate Jeff Pilon and Edmontons Patrick Kabongo. "Patrick Kabongo was mouthing at us while we were doing our typical breakdown before the game," Chevrier explained. "Hes beaking off and the next thing you know, Pilon goes into his face. Youve got these two humongous titans pounding on each other before the game." The Stampeders won the 2012 edition of the Labour Day Classic 31-30. Edmonton kicker Grant Shaws field-goal attempt from 48 yards sailed wide and Larry Taylor ran it out of the end zone as time expired. Edmontons record since that game is 3-15. Calgarys is 14-4. While the fortunes of Calgary (6-2) and Edmonton (1-7) have widely diverged, the Stampeders long-snapper doesnt believe the CFLs Battle of Alberta is diminished a year later. "Theyve always been that intense emotional experience that you want in a football game," says Chevrier, who will appear in his 10th career Labour Day game Monday. Albertas CFL franchises will meet for the first time this season at its halfway mark and clash again four days later in Edmonton in the Labour Day rematch. A sunny day with a high of 27 degrees is forecasted for McMahon Stadium. A Stampeder spokesman said Sunday the game was not yet sold out, but Chevrier hopes it will be. "One of the big things is its one of the few games in the summer where, the day of the week that its on, everyones in Calgary and they show up," he said. "Its full of our fans. Its not like a Rider game where you have a ton of green shirts. Its typically full of red. I love that atmosphere." The Stampeders are in a tight race with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and B.C. Lions at the top of the West Division despite a revolving door on offence due to injuries. With veteran slotback Nik Lewis and star running back Jon Cornish out of the lineup last week, Calgary prevailed 35-14 over the Argos in Toronto last week. The last four of Edmontons six straight losses have been by five points or less. In the history of the CFL, only the 1979 Winnipeg Blue Bombers have lost as many consecutive games by that margin. Edmonton is coming off a 30-27 loss to Riders. The Eskimos have outscored the opposition 78-49 in the fourth quarter this season, but that hasnt translated into many wins. "Its kind of heartened our resolve even more going through those tough losses together," Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly said. "Its made us more hungry each and every week to get that win. I dont think anybody is hanging their heads. We know what were capable of. "We just havent been able to get over that hump. Once we do, I think everybody is very confident were going to turn the season around and were going to finish out strong. Its Labour Day. The season is far from over. I can promise you that." Reilly was hit too much by Saskatchewan last week to suit Edmonton head coach Kavis Reed, who wants Reilly taking calculated, not reckless, risks in pursuit of victory. "Franchise quarterbacks are very hard to come by," the Edmonton coach said. "Its also our responsibility as a coaching staff to make certain we impress upon him the importance of longevity, being smart. "There are certain situations weve had late in the game where trying to fight for that extra yard is necessary. There are a lot of situations where wed like to see Mike get out of bounds or see Mike slide. "I understand why hes doing it. Hes trying to will this team to success." Cornish, the CFLs No. 2 rusher behind Saskatchewan Kory Sheets, is back in Calgarys lineup after sitting out one game with a thigh bruise. Cornish ran for 255 yards and three touchdowns in three wins against Edmonton last season. "When you look at their offence, most things function through Jon," Reed said. "Not only is he a tremendous runner, but he does all the other things that you expect of a versatile running back. For us to have good results against this offence, we have to stop him." Maurice Price rotates back in at wide receiver for the Stampeders after a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 3. Glenn remains the starter in the absence of injured Drew Tate, but expect to see Bo Levi Mitchell inserted to finish short-yardage situations. Notes: Calgary is 3-2 against Edmonton in their last five Labour Day meetings . . . Jonathan Williams, who led the Stampeders in rushing against Toronto with 82 yards in Cornishs absence, is out with an ankle injury . . . Defensive tackle Micah Johnson (torn oblique) is off Calgarys nine-game injured list and will play for the first time since Week 3 . . . Edmonton defensive lineman Odell Willis (shoulder) is out of Mondays game. Arjen Robben Netherlands Jersey . -- In one brief spurt, Brazil turned a close game into a rout and proved again it will be a strong World Cup favourite. Kenneth Vermeer Jersey . Giroud, who wasnt in the starting lineup for two matches after allegations about his private life and a decline in form, scored twice in the first half. Tomas Rosickys chip made it 3-0 before half time at Emirates Stadium, while defender Laurent Koscielny scored an unmarked header in the second half. http://www.soccernetherlandsshop.us/Jetro-Willems-Netherland -Jersey/ .C. United of Major League Soccer. United chose the defender in the second round of the 2013 MLS re-entry draft. Luuk de Jong Jersey . 9. Price, heading to the 2014 Olympics for Canada, was named the First Star after posting wins in three starts with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .971 save percentage. Karim Rekik Netherlands Jersey . The team said Saturday that Lopez was hurt during its 121-120 overtime loss at Philadelphia on Friday. The Nets said they would issue another update next week after consultation with their doctors.NEW YORK -- Jamal Crawford was back in the locker room throwing up, a tough way to start a lengthy road trip. A little illness wasnt going to stop the Los Angeles Clippers. Neither is a grueling schedule nor the absence of their All-Star point guard. "For us, theres no excuses," Crawford said. "We have to go on the road and do a job." Blake Griffin scored 32 points, Crawford added 29, and the Clippers opened a seven-game road trip with their fifth straight victory, 109-95 over the New York Knicks on Friday night. DeAndre Jordan had 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Clippers, who dominated the second half to hand the Knicks their third consecutive loss. Carmelo Anthony had 26 points and 20 rebounds for the Knicks in a disappointing start to an eight-game homestand that matches the longest in franchise history. That doesnt guarantee any success this season, with the Knicks now 7-13 at Madison Square Garden. "It seems that we cant figure it out here on our home court," Anthony said. "But despite these last couple of games, I think weve got a great stretch that can work in our favour if we get some things right, adjust some things and figure it out quickly." One of those adjustments could be to the starting lineup, with coach Mike Woodson said he may have to consider it after starting guards Raymond Felton and Iman Shumpert combined for two baskets and five points -- all by Felton -- on 12 shot attempts. Anthony shot only 4 of 23 from the field, but made all 16 free throws in the first 20-20 game by a Knicks player since David Lee on April 2, 2010. J.R. Smith added 24 points off the bench. Its the second seven-game trip of the season for the Clippers, who will fly about 11,275 miles as they give up Staples Center for the Grammy awards. They went 4-3 in December on the first one, and got this one off to a winning start while improving to 10-10 on the road this season. Crawford couldnt even join them for warmups, remaining in the back with stomach sickness. But after needing a stunning rally to erase a 17-point deficit inside the final 5 minutes and beat Dallas 129-127 on Wednesday, the Clippers methodically pulled away from a 50-all halftimme tie in this one and improve to 6-1 this season without the injured Chris Paul.dddddddddddd "Something CP always says when we are on a road trip, Cant win them all without winning the first," Griffin said. "So to get the first one for us is obviously great, to get the win to start the road trip and help our mindsets for the rest of the games." The Knicks led 65-62 with 4 minutes left in the third before helping the Clippers pass them by continuously sending the visitors to the line. Ten of the Clippers final 14 points of the quarter came from the foul line -- one of them when Griffin was fouled throwing down an alley-oop pass from Crawford with 52 seconds left. Los Angeles then blew it open early in the fourth on consecutive jumpers by newly signed Hedo Turkoglu and Crawford, before Crawford nailed a 3-pointer to make it 85-70. Consecutive 3s later in the period by Griffin, Jared Dudley and Crawford, a former Knicks guard, extended it to 96-75 and brought out plenty of boos from the home fans. With the Knicks at home for the rest of the month, Woodson said he considers January the pivotal month of the season. Yet home hasnt been the place to be, with the Knicks absorbing their three worst losses here. And they could play this entire stretch without forwards Amare Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin. Both players sprained their left ankles in Thursdays 117-89 loss at Indiana and are expected to miss about two weeks. The homestand still includes visits from sub-.500 Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Charlotte, the Lakers, Boston and Cleveland, but the Knicks cant assume wins against anyone after falling to 15-25. "The thing that we have to do is just, we have to fix it," centre Tyson Chandler said. "Youve got to attack the problem head on. Theres going to be no pity parties. Just got to take care of it and fix it." The Clippers tied it at 50 going into halftime despite shooting under 33 per cent and going 3 of 18 on 3-pointers. Anthony was 2 of 10, but made all nine free throws for his 14 points. NOTES: The Knicks also had an eight-game homestand in December 1986. The Dallas Mavericks are the only other team with eight straight home games this season.
