| Riccardo Tisci drew inspiration not only from basketballs themselves |

For the fall-winter 2014-2015 Givenchy menswear collection, designer Riccardo Tisci found inspiration in the sport of basketball.
Although we weren't at Friday's Nike Air Max 90 Damen runway show in Paris — Nike Air Max Classic BW Heren staged on a runway designed to look like a basketball court — almost as soon as the last look had left the runway we started receiving emails and tweets from folks who know how much we appreciate anything and everything that combines the worlds of high style and hoops.
According to the collection information passed along to us by the label's reps, it was both basketball and the Bauhaus movement that inspired the collection. Here is the post-show release verbatim:"For the fall/winter 2014 Givenchy menswear collection, Riccardo Tisci creates an urban atmosphere that combines the sobriety and geometry of the Bauhaus movement with basketball imagery.
Riccardo Tisci drew inspiration not only from basketballs themselves, but also from the design and materials of basketball courts to produce this Adidas Superstar Damen season’s abstract Nike Air Max 1 Dam prints." The trouser Nike Blazer Basse Donne silhouette seems to be a bit baggier than in past collections (double-pleats!) and the collection seems to have a bit of an over-the-top vibe to it — maybe that's because in addition to using familiar materials (the show notes list cashmeres, angoras, flannels, and cotton poplins), there's a healthy dose of muskrat and opossum fur in the mix.
It's an upscale-meets-street vibe that we think is a perfect fit for the growing cadre of pro basketball-playing fans of fashion. What makes this collection all the more interesting to us is the recent news that Tisci and Nike have collaborated on a line of footwear set to debut this spring.
