MALMO, Sweden -- Jack Eichel, Ryan Hartman and Boston University defenceman Matt Grzelyck each had a goal and an assist, leading the defending champion United States to a 6-3 victory over Slovakia on Saturday in the world junior hockey tournament. In the other Group A game, the Czech Republic stunned Canada, 5-4 in a shootout. Dominik Simon scored the deciding goal in the tiebreaker. The United States scored its first three goals on power plays. "Overall, I love to see the power-play goals we were able to get tonight," said U.S. coach Don Lucia of the University of Minnesota. "The negative is we gave up the two. We just have to clean up some of the mistakes we made out there. I was happy how we played in the third period as far as 5-on-5 play to score those separation goals and put it away." Miami of Ohios Riley Barber, Boston Universitys Dan ORegan and New Jersey Devils prospect Stefan Matteau also scored for the Americans (2-0-0). Matteau, the son of former NHL player Stephane Matteau, plays for the Devils Albany affiliate in the American Hockey League. "We dont have that one player whos going to go out and score four goals," said Hartman, the West Dundee, Ill., forward who plays for the Plymouth Whalers in Ontario Hockey League. "We have a well-rounded team and everyone is contributing." The Americans opened the tournament with a 5-1 victory over the Czech Republic on Thursday. The U.S. will play Germany (0-2-0) on Sunday, and finish group play Tuesday against Canada (1-0-1). The United States took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Eichel, a 17-year-old forward from Chelmsford, Mass., scored with 3:07 left and ORegan followed with a second to go. Hartman, a first-round pick by Chicago, put the U.S. up 3-0 4:22 into the second period. But Slovakia (1-0-1) came back with a pair of goals to pull within one after two periods. Providences Jon Gillies stopped 27 shots for the United States. Montreal draft pick Martin Reway scored twice for Slovakia. "Its hard to win a game when they score almost every time they get a power play," Reway said. In Group B, Sweden and Russia each improved to 2-0-0. Sweden beat Finland 4-2, and Russia routed Switzerland 7-1. Alexander Wennberg had two goals and an assist for Sweden, and Alexander Barabanov and Damir Zhafyarov each had a goal and an assist for Russia. Finland dropped to 1-1-0, and Switzerland to 0-2-0. Or, in other words, the two teams would appear to have at least spoken. And spoken is defined as one calling the other to inquire, no more, no less. Wholesale Jerseys Store . Anthony Calvillo, through 20 CFL seasons, was frequently invincible and largely stoic in the heat of competition. Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC failed to make the postseason while Montreal Impact fell at the first hurdle losing heavily to Houston Dynamo in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round.PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -- Jessica Korda laughed about her winning up-and-down and being sprayed with shaving cream. She choked up, too, thinking about her cancer-stricken coach. The 20-year-old Korda won the season-opening Bahamas LPGA Classic on Sunday for her second tour title, holing a 6-foot birdie putt on the final hole to beat Stacy Lewis by a stroke. Korda recently started working again with Grant Price after struggling with a swing she felt led to left shoulder and wrist injuries. "Grant means so much to me," Korda said. "Hes so positive, and thats really kind of shown. Its given me a lot of confidence this week. His positivity, and hes like, Youre going to be ready for this week. Youre going to be ready for this week. ... Him being on the range and constantly kind of encouraging the positive in me, into my mind, it helped me so much." Price, Hall of Famer Nick Prices nephew, is fighting testicular cancer. "Ive known Grant since I was 15 years old, so I know how it is and whats going on," Korda said. "But first thing I did, and I asked him, I was like, Can you help me? And if you cant, its completely OK. Like, If you dont feel up to it, then its fine. Like, I dont mind, but I need to know if youre going to be OK first. And thats how every practice started." Korda closed with a 7-under 66 for a 19-under 273 total at Atlantis Resorts Ocean Club. The third-ranked Lewis parred the final four holes -- two of them par 5s -- for a 66. "I only birdied the 18th hole once this week and that made the difference," Lewis said. "Three of the four days I went over the green to the same place, so obviously that wasnt the place to be. But you are not doing a lot wrong if you a finish second. And thats what Ill take away from this week." Korda tied Lewis for the lead with a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th, then got up-and-down for birdie on the par-5 18th. Kordas 4-iron approach on 18 scampered through the green and up against the grandstand. She took relief from the grandstand and, with an official and a TV announcer holding up cordds that would have interfered with her stroke, putted under the wires to set up the winning birdie.dddddddddddd "That was different," Korda said. "It was like jump rope. ... It was like Double Dutch. I was jumping over wires with people holding onto them. It was really funny." She passed on a drop that would have moved her away from the cables. "It wasnt a hard decision at all," Korda said. "I felt I had a good lie there. It looked too difficult on either side, so I just stayed right where I was. I remember when I had the pleasure of playing with Jack Nicklaus, he told me a bad putt is always better than a bad chip." After the winning putt, she was sprayed with shaving cream -- courtesy of tournament sponsor Pure Silk. "I smell really good. It smells really good," said Korda, whose father, Petr, won the 1998 Australian Open tennis tournament and mother, Regina Raichrtova, also played pro tennis. Korda earned $195,000 and is projected to jump from 40th to 26th in the world ranking. She also won the 2012 Womens Australian Open in the first event of the season. "Its unbelievable," Korda said. "I dont know, maybe I pay attention more to detail, and Im more relaxed out here. But whatever it is, I need to figure it out and do it more often." Lewis birdied six of the first eight holes, then dropped a stroke on the par-4 ninth. She birdied the par-5 11th and par-4 14th to reach 18 under, but closed with four straight pars. On 18, her flop shot came up short and her 15-foot birdie try stopped inches from the cup. "Its very frustrating," Lewis said. "The 18th hole has gotten me the last couple tournaments." Paula Creamer, paired with Korda all four days, had a 69 to tie for third with Na Yeon Choi, Lizette Salas and Pornanong Phatlum at 16 under. Phatlum finished with a 67, Salas had a 71, and Choi shot 72. Lydia Ko, the 16-year-old New Zealander making her first start as an LPGA Tour member, had a 68 to tie for seventh at 15 under. She won the Canadian Womens Open the last two years as an amateur.
