HOUSTON -- Jeremy Lin impressed his teammates with his first career triple-double in Houstons win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night. The Rockets were even more surprised that he achieved the feat coming off the bench. Lin tallied 15 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and 10 assists and James Harden returned from injury to score 28 points to help the Rockets to their third straight victory, 106-92. Dwight Howard added 26 points and Terrence Jones had 17. "Thats hard to do," Harden said of collecting a triple-double as a reserve. "Its just hard to be able to score the basketball, grab rebounds and pass the ball and get your teammates involved off the bench as a point guard. Its tough. But hes talented enough to do it and he did it." Lin is the first Rocket to have a triple-double off the bench since Cedric Maxwell did it on March 31, 1988, against Indiana. Two years removed from "Linsanity" with the New York Knicks, the undrafted player from Harvard is thriving in a backup role in Houston, averaging 13.4 points and 4.5 assists. "Its kind of humbling to think about the whole journey and now this," he said. "Its another cool thing." Harden sat out the last two games with a bruised left thumb. It showed no signs of bothering him Saturday, when he also had four assists and three rebounds. He made 10 of 17 shots after hitting just eight of 24 shots in his previous two games combined. "I need to injure my hand more often," he joked. "I shot it better than Ive been shooting before. I havent been shooting the last couple of days so I didnt know how it was going to react to it, but I just had confidence in my abilities and just went out there and did it." Patrick Beverley didnt score, but helped the Rockets everywhere else with 10 rebounds, eight assists and a career-best five steals. "You have to give credit to their two guards," Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said. "Patrick Beverley and Jeremy Lin played a heck of a game between those guys. Twenty-one rebounds is phenomenal. They just got after it and went after every loose ball and rebounded." Houston led by as many as 19 points in the first half before Cleveland opened the second half with an 11-0 run to take a 63-61 lead, its first since the opening minutes of the game. Clevelands lead was short-lived as the Rockets roared back by scoring the next 11 points to go back on top 72-63 and hold on for the win. Luol Deng had 24 points and Kyrie Irving added 21 with seven assists as Cleveland dropped its fourth in a row. The Rockets used 3-pointers by Lin and Jones to fuel a 7-2 run early in the fourth quarter that made it 93-78. A layup by Howard followed by an alley-oop dunk by Harden with less than a minute to go pushed the lead to 106-90. Lins 10th assist came on Howards layup. Houston was up by six a few minutes after it regained the lead in the third when another run -- this one 8-0 -- stretched the advantage to 82-68. Harden had a one-handed dunk before a two-handed slam by Howard on the next possession ended the run, brought the crowd to its feet and had Brown yelling for a timeout. The Rockets led 84-73 entering the fourth quarter. Five straight points by the Cavaliers got them within seven points early in the second quarter. The Rockets answered with a 14-2 spurt to push their lead to 49-30 midway through the quarter. Lin made six consecutive points in that stretch and Omri Casspi added six points in the run. The Cavaliers missed shots, committed turnovers and fouled on possession after possession as Houston extended its advantage. Cleveland finally got back on track when Deng scored five quick points, including a 3-pointer, as the start of a 17-6 run that got the Cavaliers within 55-47. Deng had another 3 near the end of that run and Dion Waiters also hit a 3-pointer. Another 3 by Waiters with just a few seconds left in the quarter cut the lead to six, but Harden knocked down a 3 just before the buzzer to leave Houston up 61-52 at halftime. Haren found everything he wanted at Dodger Stadium. The right-hander agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with the Dodgers on Monday, adding another veteran arm to Los Angeles deep rotation. The deal includes $3 million in performance bonuses and a $10 million vesting option for 2015. Haren was eager for a change after spending last season in Washington, where he went 10-14 with a 4.67 ERA even with a strong finish to the season. He missed his wife and children during his year on the East Coast, and the 11-year veteran seized the chance to return home after spending the previous three seasons with the Angels. "My kids are growing up, and to have the opportunity to come back so close to home and pitch for a championship-level club, it couldnt have happened any better for me," Haren said. The three-time All-Star went 33-27 with the Angels, enduring a rough final season. He also got off to a slow start with the Nationals, but Haren regained enough of his form to make him attractive on the limited free-agent market. Haren will compete for a prominent spot in Los Angeles loaded rotation alongside Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu and injured veterans Chad Billingsley and Josh Beckett. "We were looking for somebody that we could lean on to provide us starts and innings, and obviously had a good track record," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said. "Hes also somebody from the area, so he understands the Dodgers and has respect for the organization and everything. ... Were more than willing to take a chance on somebody with his makeup, with his ability, with his experience, and with his track record." If Haren pitches 180 innings for the Dodgers, hell have a $10 million player option for 2015. He had pitched at least 180 innings in nine straight seasons before last year in Washington, where he finished with 169 2-3 innings pitched after a stint on the disabled list. Haren will get $250,000 each in performance bonuses if he makes 24, 27 and 30 starts, with a $500,000 bonus for 32 starts. Hell get $250,000 each if he pitches 150, 160 and 170 innings, with a $500,000 bbonus for 180 and 190 innings.dddddddddddd If he reaches 180 innings in 2014 and is traded before the season ends, then there is a player option for 2015 at $11 million. "Could I have gotten more in other places? Maybe, probably," Haren said. "But the Dodgers seemed like a good fit for me, and at this point in my career, it looks like the Dodgers priority is winning now, and thats my priority too." The 33-year-old has 129 career victories. The Dodgers will be the sixth major league team for Haren, who also pitched for St. Louis, Oakland and Arizona. Haren knows hell be competing with Billingsley and Beckett for a rotation spot, and the Dodgers are eager to see how it develops. "Josh we expect to be ready when camp opens, and Chad at some point during the season," Colletti said. "Im not going to close the door to any more starters. We certainly like the four we have, and we hope we get Josh back and we hope we get Chad back." Haren isnt sure how the rotation will shake out, but hes confident hell have a spot if he performs to his usual capabilities. Hes also eager to suit up for the NL West champions, who lost to the Cardinals in the league championship series. "The talent is second to none," Haren said. "Weve got stars at every position." Haren pitched alongside Greinke in 2012 with the Angels, and theyve stayed in regular contact. Greinke welcomed Haren to the Dodgers earlier in the day -- and then hit him up for fantasy football advice. After he realized last winter that he wouldnt return to the Angels, Haren and his wife kept their home in Irvine, where he lives in the same gated community as Dodgers hitting coach Mark McGwire. Haren isnt suggesting a carpool with Big Mac, but hes thinking about buying an electric vehicle to ease the pain of a daily commute from Orange County to Dodger Stadium. He also plans to get tips on the drive from utilityman Skip Schumaker, who also lives in the coastal area thats home to dozens of athletes, including Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. "Ill get used to it," Haren said. "Ill get satellite radio or something. ... Or maybe I could (get a ride on) Kobes plane. With his extension today, he could probably afford to give me a few rides." cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland -- Latvia won a four-man World Cup bobsled race Sunday, while the U.S. team capped another rough week after a solid start to the season. GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers shuffled around the field to make plays. He jokingly needled a young receiver about his first Lambeau leap. And perhaps even most importantly, he was one of the calming influences this week on a Packers team beset with injuries. Rodgers threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns, Eddie Lacy ran for another score, and the defence came up clutch in a grinding, 31-13 win Sunday over the Cleveland Browns. "Hang with us fans, it might not be the prettiest game," Rodgers said. "But weve got to kind of win with defence, not turn the ball over and make the plays that are there." Rodgers finished 25 for 36 in methodically carving up Cleveland (3-4) despite already being without two of his top targets in injured receivers James Jones and Randall Cobb. Then tight end Jermichael Finley left on a stretcher with about 10 minutes to go with a neck injury after a late hit by Brown safety Tashaun Gipson on a 10-yard gain. The team later said Finley had movement and feeling in his extremities. "Those are tough to see," Rodgers said. "Not being able to walk off the field I know, in the back of our minds, is kind of our worst nightmare." The Packers pressed on during a rainy night. Coach Mike McCarthy praised Rodgers and the teams other veterans with helping young players called upon to fill the holes at receiver and linebacker. They came through, starting with receiver Jarrett Boykin. Making his first start with Jones and Cobb out, finished with eight catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. On the other side, second-year Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden struggled again. He finished 17 for 42 for 149 yards with an interception and a 2-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Cameron with 6:09 left. "It was definitely slippery, but thats no excuse," Weeden said. "Aaron was throwing the ball just fine" in the rain. Weedens already on the hot seat with fans following his ugly flip that turned into an interception that made lowlight reels in last weeks 31-17 loss to the Lions. The offence has been struggling since Brian Hoyer went down with a season-ending knee injury earlier this month against thee Bills.dddddddddddd Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said changing quarterbacks Sunday wasnt an option. He also didnt give Weeden a resounding endorsement. "Ill look at the film and well evaluate his play and everybodys play after the game," Chudzinski said. Green Bay (4-2) won its third straight and took over first place in the NFC North. Lacy finished with 82 yards, while Finley had a 10-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter before leaving with the injury. The defence took care of the rest against a struggling Weeden, recording three sacks in spite of being without starting outside linebackers Clay Matthews and Nick Perry. Still the Browns had hope late. Cleveland thought it caught a huge break after recovering an onside kick, only for the play to be erased by an offside penalty. The Packers got the ball back, and Rodgers found Boykin for the touchdown. The second-year pro out of Virginia Tech had two Browns closing in before leaping at about the 1 to stretch the ball out over the goal line to stretch the lead back to 18. "If you dont make the (Lambeau) leap all the way to the wall, youre going to hear about it," Rodgers said. "Im sure if it wasnt, he had a guy help him up." Boykin was just happy to get in the end zone. "I just had to stretch it," he said. "I cant be denied at that point." The Browns did have two nice fourth-quarter kickoff returns that helped set up drives into Green Bay territory, including an 80-yarder by Travis Benjamin that led to Camerons score. Otherwise, bad luck lingered over the Browns like the dark clouds that drenched Lambeau Field with a steady shower most of the game. On an earlier drive, a fourth-down pass from the 31 to Josh Gordon was broken up by Davon House at the last second. House also had the first-quarter interception of Weeden. The Packers finished strong and got off to a hot start. Rodgers connected with Finley for a 7-0 lead after the athletic, 6-foot-5 tight end spun around one defender, then caromed off two others like a pinball into the end zone. Lacy followed on the next drive with a 1-yard score to give Green Bay a two-touchdown lead late in the first quarter. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

PHOENIX -- Brandon McCarthy chalked up his recent struggles to mechanical flaws. After earning only two wins with the Arizona Diamondbacks this season, McCarthy consulted video and worked with pitching coach Charles Nagy. The result was one of his best outings of the season. McCarthy turned in seven strong innings, and Paul Goldschmidt drove in two runs to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Monday night. After a shaky first inning, the 6-foot-7 McCarthy (3-8) allowed only four runners over his final six innings. It was his first win since he beat San Diego on May 28. His other victory was a shutout at Miami on May 18. "I felt I carried my weight, and nice to see a positive result," McCarthy said. "I never felt that strong this season and went back to watch video from before I went on the disabled list last season. I saw some mechanical issues, made a few adjustments, and am satisfied with the results." McCarthy lasted only into the third inning in his previous start, a 10-7 loss to the Reds. He allowed seven runs and eight hits in 2 1-3 innings. Goldschmidt stretched his NL-leading RBI total to 103 with his first triple of the season and a ground out. He has the most RBIs for an Arizona hitter since Luis Gonzalez drove in 104 in 2003. After Will Venable and Alexi Amarista opened the game with singles, Yonder Alonso hit a grounder wide of first. Goldschmidt fielded the ball and threw to second to force Amarista, but shortstop Didi Gregorius throw to first was wide and beyond McCarthy, who was covering the bag. Venable scored the unearned run. But that was all the Padres would get against McCarthy and Eury De La Rosa, who pitched a perfect final two innings. "The story was we couldnt get any runs," Padres manager Bud Black said. "I thought (starter Tyson Ross) was fine." Between the first inning and when he left the game, McCarthy allowed a one-out single in the third to Venable, a two-out single in the fourth to Chase Headley and a two-out single to Ross (3-7) in the fifth. He hit Jedd Gyroko with a pitch with two out in the sixth. "I didnt think I threw all that bad in the first inning," McCarthy said. "I just followed (catcher) Miguel Monteros lead and didnt shake him off one time." Though his pitch count was 58 through four innings, McCarthy was more efficient in the later innings. He threw 93 pitches in seven innings. Adam Eaton was hit by a pitch to open the fourth, and Goldschmidt hit a twisting drive into the right field corner that hit off the fence. Martin Prado then followed with a sacrifice fly to give Arizona a 2-1 lead. Prados grounder to third with the bases loaded in the sixth was booted by Headley. Two more runs scored to make it 4-1. Prado has hit in 11 of his last 12 games for a .361 average, and has driven in 19 runs in that stretch. "Im taking advantage of the situation," he said. "I had a difficult course over the first few months and its good to get going this way." In the seventh, Goldschmidt grounded into a force play with the bases loaded, scoring Aaron Hill. Giants co-owner John Mara announced his mothers death on Super Bowl Sunday. Ann Mara slipped in front of her home in Rye, New York, during an ice storm two weeks ago and was hospitalized with a head injury the following day. While there were initial hopes for recovery, John Mara said, complications developed and she died early Sunday surrounded by her family. Ann Mara and her children owned 50 per cent of the Giants, one of the founding families of the league, since the death of her husband, Hall of Famer Wellington Mara, in 2005. While she was not active in daily operations, her opinion was valued greatly. Mrs. Mara was a tower of strength, dignity and inspiration for her family and all of us in the NFL, Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. Her family and the Giants organization have always reflected Mrs. Maras competitive spirit, integrity, and wonderful sense of humour. Our thoughts and prayers are with John Mara and the entire Mara family. Ann Mara was a prominent philanthropist who supported educational organizations. Mara also helped children with cancer through the Ronald McDonald House of New York. In November, she dedicated the opening of a new building for the San Miguel Academy for children at risk, which was built through the NFL Snowflake Foundation. Three days before MetLife Stadium — the home of the Giants and Jets — was the site of the Super Bowl last year, Ann Mara received the Paul J. Tagliabue Award of Excellence. It is presented to a league or team executive who demonstrates the integrity and leadership that he exhibited in career development opportunities for minority candidates and advocacy for diversity on the league and club level when he was NFL commissioner. She has been the leader of our family in every way, and we will miss her dearly, John Mara said. Married to Wellington Mara in 1954 after a chance meeting in a Roman Cattholic church, Ann Mara attended almost every Giants home and away game.dddddddddddd She was a fierce defender of the team. After the Giants beat the San Francisco 49ers in the 2011 NFC Championship game en route to their fourth Super Bowl title, she approached Fox broadcaster and Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, poking his arm to get his attention. You never pick the Giants, Ann Mara said. Bradshaw turned toward the camera and said, I know. I know. Im sorry. Im getting hammered for not picking the Giants. Ann Mara, sometimes referred to as The First Lady of Football, also let her sons know how she felt. Three of them work in the Giants front office. Along with John, Chris is the senior vice-president of player evaluation and Frank is the vice-president of community relations. She used to like to remind John Mara that youre an employee. When the Giants missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year this past season, John Mara, who serves as president and chief executive, was asked how his mother felt. She is not very happy with me right now, believe me, John Mara said. She suffers through this probably even more so than I do. I am on notice as well. Current and former Giants players reacted to the death on social media. Rest in Peace Mrs. Mara. My prayers also for The Mara family. What a great woman!!!! wrote current Oakland Raiders defensive end Justin Tuck, a member of the 2008 and 2012 Giants Super Bowl champions. Giants safety Antrel Rolle called Ann Mara an angel and a blessing in his five years with the team. I absolutely love this woman! She had a smile that would brighten anyones day. She was our fighter & backbone, Rolle tweeted. Born Ann Mumm in New York City on June 18, 1929, Mara is survived by 11 children, 43 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, Chris daughter Rooney Mara, was nominated for an Oscar for best actress for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in 2012. Funeral plans are pending. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

GLADEVILLE, Tenn. -- Carl Edwards dominated the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Saturday night at Nashville Superspeedway. The Sprint Cup star was so overpowering that not even a penalty, an upset stomach or fellow Sprint Cup driver Brad Keselowski could stop him. He did his customary back flip off the car and then even went into the stands afterward to celebrate with the fans. "Its just to give a couple people high-fives and to see the looks on their faces," said Edwards, who led a race-high 125 laps and has a total of six wins at the track, five in Nationwide and one in the truck series. "I wish more drivers would do it." Edwards teammate at Roush Fenway Racing, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., finished second and Mike Dillon was third. Edwards, who leads the Sprint Cup points race over Jimmie Johnson, was leading when the first caution came out on lap 82 for debris. The next lap he entered the pits and was penalized for speeding and NASCAR officials ordered him to the rear of the longest line of cars for the restart. Edwards worked his way back through the field and passed Dillon on lap 120 for the lead. On the pass the air from Edwards car caused Dillon to wiggle wildly in turn four. "He knew I was loose and just started driving in on me," said Dillon. "I dont think he hit me, I just got real loose. That was a heck of a save. It reminded me of my dirt car." Dillon, the winner of the truck series race at this track Friday night and grandson of longtime car owner Richard Childress, fell to third. Edwards said he was racing with a cold. That combined with the extreme heat made it a tough night for Edwards. "I feel a lot better (after winning)," Edwards said in Victory Lane. "Carls awesome here. I felt like he was kind of playing with us a little there at the end," Stenhouse said. "Well take a second and go onto (the next race)." Keselowski, the pole winner, was in command of the race when he radioed his crew that he was slowing due to a dropped cylinder on lap 166. Dillon took advantage of the situation and passed the defending series champion for the lead. Keselowski led 88 laps and placed 12th. Elliott Sadler came into the race as the series points leader, but surrendered it to Reed Sorenson when he broke down on pit lane during the third caution period of the race. Sadler was in the top 10 all night and was coming out of his pit stop in second when he radioed to his crew. "Were done, guys, were done." He said he thought he broke an axle. "I might have popped the clutch too early," said Sadler, about accelerating from his pit box. Sadler came in 30th place and is now third in the championship, 14 points back. Sorenson is five points ahead of Stenhouse to lead the points battle. The second caution of the race occurred on lap 127 when Mikey Kile and Brian Scott had contact while going down the backstretch. Kile skidded across the grass along the track but was able to get it back onto the course. Patrick Corbin Diamondbacks Jersey . PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma wasnt thrilled with Scott Hartnell going after Kris Letang, saying off-handedly that the Philadelphia Flyers forward was "picking on a guy who had a stroke." In the third period of Saturdays game, Hartnell hit Letang, who was playing his second game back after suffering a stroke in January. Each player was given a two-minute minor for roughing as they mixed it up after the whistle. After the Flyers 4-3 overtime win, Bylsma was asked if -- even though doctors assured the team and the 26-year-old defenceman that hockey would not put him more at risk for another stroke -- he had a little pause seeing Hartnell and Letang shoving each other. "I did have that thought when that was going on there," said Bylsma. "(Letang) kind of had the play there and the puck on his skate to try to score a goal. It fell off his stick and the whistle and everything ensued after that. Yeah it does, a guy picking on a guy who had a stroke." A team spokeswoman said Bylsma was joking when he made that remark. Told of Bylsmas comment regarding Hartnell without the benefit of much context, Flyers coach Craig Berube fired back. "Then he shouldnt play," Berube said. "He shouldnt be out there playing, bottom line. Its a stupid comment." Letang, who scored 10 minutes later, said its "part of the game." "I got hit from behind, I turn around and it was him," Letang said. "I was not really shocked. but things happen in the game fast. I dont regret (it)." Hartnell declined comment through a team spokesman. Letang and Hartnell have something of a history dating to an Oct. 8, 2009 incident in which the Penguins defenceman accused the Flyers forward of biting his right ring finger. NOTE -- Flyers goaltender Steve Mason left the game with what the team called an upper-body injury, which resulted from being crashed into by two players. Penguins forward Jayson Megna pushed Flyers defenceman Andrew MacDonald into Mason at the 16:27 mark of the second period, and the goalies head snapped back and then appeared to hit the ice. Mason remained in the game until the intermission, but then Ray Emery replaced him to start the third. Berube said Mason was being taken out as a precaution and expects him to be ready for Game 1 of Philadelphias first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers on Thursday. Brown announced his resignation Saturday, calling his 16 seasons leading the Longhorns "a wonderful ride" but saying it was time for a change in what he called a football department "being pulled in different directions." The announcement ended weeks of speculation about Browns job security after an 8-4 regular season -- the fourth straight year the Longhorns lost that many games. It came one day after Brown met with Texas president Bill Powers and incoming athletic director Steve Patterson, and amid speculation he would resign or be fired. Brown, who won a national title with Texas after the 2005 season, will coach the unranked Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30 against No. 10 Oregon. He said he arrived at Texas in 1998 "to pull together a football program that was divided." "Now, the program is again being pulled in different directions, and I think the time is right for a change," Brown said in a statement "I love The University of Texas, all of its supporters, the great fans and everyone that played and coached here. "I cant thank (retiring athletic director) DeLoss Dodds enough for bringing our family here, and Bill Powers and the administration for supporting us at a place where I have made lifelong friendships. "It is the best coaching job and the premier football program in America. I sincerely want it to get back to the top and thats why I am stepping down after the bowl game. I hope with some new energy, we can get this thing rolling again." Browns announcement came after Alabama said Friday night it had reached a new long-term agreement with football coach Nick Saban. The two coaches had been linked by recent rumors and reports that had Saban, who won three national titles in the past four years with the Crimson Tide, taking over for Brown in Austin. Brown said at a media briefing Thursday for the Alamo Bowl, "My situation has not changed." He didnt address his future at Texas football banquet Friday night as news of the Saban extension broke, according to reports. "We appreciate everything Mack has done for The University of Texas. Hes been a tremendous coach, mentor, leader and ambassador for our university and our student-athletes," Patterson said in a statement. "He is truly a college football legend.dddddddddddd Ive had a number of talks with him recently, and he has always said he wanted what was best for The University of Texas. I know this decision weighed heavily on him, and today he told us hes ready to move forward." Brown was in Florida on a recruiting trip this week when a website reported he would step down by the end of the week. Brown denied to another site that he had made a decision, but on Thursday said working for a new athletic director "changes things." Patterson was hired in November to replace Dodds, who has held the post for 32 years. Dodds brought Brown to Austin for the start of the 1998 season. "Weve hired what I think is a great athletic director, but I havent had time to sit down with him," Brown said Thursday. "Im looking forward to my meeting and well get on the same page and move forward." Browns contract with the university runs through 2020 under a deal he signed in January of 2012 and he will remain at the school in some capacity. He restored the Longhorns to national prominence and the team strung together nine straight seasons of double-digit wins from 2001-09. The highlight of his tenure, undoubtedly, came when the Longhorns beat USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl to win the national title and finish off a 13-0 season. "This is a very difficult day for everyone in The University of Texas family," Powers said in a statement calling Brown "one of the best football coaches in the country." "Mack is just the best and he will be missed," said Powers. "With that said, Im excited for the future and the opportunity to work with him in a new capacity for the years to come and am thrilled that he and (wife) Sally will remain part of our family. He is an unbelievable resource for us and will always be a valuable member of the Longhorn community." Brown also took the Longhorns to the national title game after the 2009 season but they lost to Saban and Alabama. The program has been in decline since with a record of just 30-20 over the past four seasons. Texas lost two of its first three games this season, then rebounded to go 7-1 in Big 12 play prior to last Saturdays 30-10 loss to Baylor in a de-factor conference title game. The Longhorns could have captured a BCS bowl bid with a victory over the Bears. Browns 158 wins at Texas are the second-most in school history behind Hall of Famer Darrell Royals 167. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

Get live fight-by-fight results from UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz. Always thinking of the future, Jason (Shotgun) Young owned his house when he was 21. Now the English featherweight is building the foundation for his UFC career. That means hard work and sacrifice. Young lost his UFC debut to rising star Dustin (The Diamond) Poirier at UFC 131 in Vancouver in June. But the former plasterer acquitted himself well in the loss and was rewarded with a fight Saturday against Japanese veteran Michihiro Omigawa at UFC 138 in Birmingham, England. Veteran Chris (The Crippler) Leben faces Mark (The Filipino Wrecking Machine) Munoz in the main event at the LG Arena. To get ready for Omigawa, Young (8-4) left his girlfriend and newborn to train in North America. The 25-year-old was away for six weeks, hitting the road just six weeks after baby Zayne came along. "It was really hard to leave him and go away and train — because Ive only known my son probably half of his life now," Young said. "It was really hard, but Im doing everything for him." Just making it to the UFC has been a dream for Young, who got into MMA at 17 for fitness and lifestyle reasons rather than thoughts of stardom. "I needed to sort myself out ... I was smoking and just getting into trouble all the time," he said. "I needed something to take up my time. I got into this and found a passion. This is what I love. "Every day I get up and think Im going to the gym now. I want to go the gym now. I want to train. If I have two days off and thats just after a fight, I feel like Im missing out on something. I dont know, its just built in me now and I dont want to get cut (by the UFC) or anything because I didnt try hard enough." So in search of a challenging camp for Omigawa, he saved his money and then crossed the Atlantic. Prior to this year, Young had never been to Canada. But that quickly changed. Invited to fight on the first officially sanctioned card in Ontario in April, he scored an entertaining win over Jorge Britto. The UFC took notice and signed him to a contract. They did him no favours, matching him with Poirier first time out. Despite the loss, Young took plenty of positives away from Vancouver. "Just to see where I stand and just to know I can hang with some of the best in the world has done my confidence a world of good." To prepare for Omigawa, he spent time at the Adrenaline Training Center in London, Ont., home to Sam Stout, Mark Hominick and Chris Horodecki. He asked to train with the Canadian fighters because he thought their aggressive styles were so similar to his. "It was good training. I was getting beaten up every day there," he said enthusiastically. "It wasnt easy. We went quite hard." But the unexpected death of Canadian coach Shawn Tompkins cast a pall over the camp. Young was also feeling a bit homesick. And looking for a familiar face, he went down to American Top Team in Florida, where friend and fellow British fighter Brad (One Punch) Pickett was training. Pickett meets Brazilian Renan Barao in Saturdays co-main event. "Everyones a black belt in jiu-jitsu," Young said of American Top team. "Standup, theyve got really good strikers. Wrestling, theyve got national champions ... Youre just getting beaten up every day. It doesnt matter who you turn to in there. And loads of guys my weight." Its the first time Young — who sports a tattoo of a guardian angel on his back — has trained away from home and he says it had made for the best fight preparation hes ever had. He will need it against the 35-year-old Omigawa, a crafty judo black belt who is far more dangerous than his 12-10-1 record suggests. Omigawa is 0-4 in two different stints in the UFC but many thought he should have got the decision over Darren Elkins last time out at UFC 131. "Omigawa is a very good opponent," Pickett said. On the other side, Pickett believes Young — while raw — has real striking skills. The fight may turn on Omigawas strategy. "Hes sometimes not the cleverest fighter," said Pickett. "If he keeps the fight on the feet, Jason will take him apart. "If Omigawa fights a bit clever, its going to be a tough fight." Young grew up in Lewisham in southeast London — "not the greatest part," he explains. After high school, his grades werent good enough to go to college so he focused on paying the bills as a plasterer. "I didnt do too bad. At 21 years old I was buying my own house. I had a car. Im the type of person, if I want something, Ill get it." He was still plastering after the Poirier fight, saving money to finance his training. "Hopefully if I win this fight, I dont have to go back to work. It would be nice to have it my full occupation so I can just concentrate on my fighting and my game." His wish list includes returning to North American to train — with his family in tow this time. "A lot of people think because youre in the UFC, youre really rich. Its far from that. Youve got to get some wins under your belt and thats what Im looking to do." Young and the family still live in the house he bought at 21. And hes still planning ahead. "Its a one-bedroom house. Ive got to do a loft conversion for my little boy now. Because its too expensive to move." Arizona Diamondbacks Jerseys . The deal, filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, calls for the NCAA to toughen return-to-play rules for players who receive head blows and create a $70 million fund to pay for thousands of current and former athletes to undergo testing to determine whether they suffered brain trauma while playing football and other contact sports. A lead attorney for the plaintiffs who spearheaded nearly a year of talks culminating in the agreement said the provisions would ultimately improve players safety and leave open the possibility of damage payments later. "I wouldnt say these changes solve the safety problems, but they do reduce the risks," Chicago attorney Joseph Siprut said. "Its changed college sports forever." Others strongly disagreed. Unlike a proposed settlement in a similar lawsuit against the NFL, this deal does not set aside any money to pay players who suffered brain trauma. Instead, athletes can sue individually for damages; the NCAA-funded tests that would gauge the extent of neurological injuries could establish grounds for doing just that. One plaintiffs attorney not involved in the negotiations called it a "terrible deal" that lets the NCAA off the hook far too easily. Jay Edelson called the agreement "window dressing," saying the NCAA will be able to settle one-off suits for several thousand each. He estimated that single, class-action damages settlement could have been worth $2 billion to players. "Instead," he said, "its worthless." The settlement is primarily directed at men and women who participated in basketball, football, ice hockey, soccer, wrestling, field hockey and lacrosse. There is no cutoff date for when athletes must have played a designated sport at one of the more than 1,000 NCAA member schools to qualify for the medical exams. That means all athletes currently playing and those who participated decades ago could undergo the tests and potentially follow up with damage claims. Tuesdays filing serves as notice to the judge overseeing the case that the parties struck a deal. At a status hearing later in the day, U.S. District Judge John Lee said he wanted more time to consider whether to give the deal preliminary approval. If he does, affected athletes will have a chance to weigh in before Lee decides about granting a final OK. The NCAA, which admits no wrongdoing in the settlement and has denied understating the dangers of concussions, hailed the deal. "This agreements proactive measures will ensure student-athletes have access to high quality medical care by physicians with experience in the diagnosis, treatment and management of concussions," NCAAs chief medical officer Brian Haiinline said.dddddddddddd Siprut added that stricter rules and oversight should help ensure the viability of football by allaying fears of parents now inclined to not let their kids play. "Absent these kinds of changes, the sport will die," he said. To keep the NCAA from having to hold unwieldy talks with multiple plaintiffs, 10 lawsuits filed nationwide were consolidated into the one case in Chicago, where the first lawsuit was filed in 2011. The lead plaintiff is Adrian Arrington, a former safety at Eastern Illinois. He said he endured five concussions while playing, some so severe he has said he couldnt recognize his parents afterward. Another named plaintiff is former Central Arkansas wide receiver Derek K. Owens. His symptoms became so severe he dropped out of school in 2011, telling his mother: "I feel like a 22-year-old with Alzheimers." Among other settlement terms, all athletes will take baseline neurological tests to start each year to help doctors determine the severity of any concussion during the season; concussion education will be mandated for coaches and athletes; and a new, independent Medical Science Committee will oversee the medical testing. Robert Cantu, a Boston-based clinical professor of neurosurgery and a longtime critic of the NCAA, said the deal is a huge shift by the organization. "Itll make collision sports much safer," said Cantu, who was one of the plaintiffs experts. But former UCLA linebacker Ramogi Huma said its all for show. "It takes some of the things many of us have been advocating for and pretends to address it," Huma, president of the College Athletes Players Association, said. Plaintiffs filings say the number of athletes who may require testing to learn if they suffered long-term damage runs into the tens of thousands. They cite NCAA figures that from 2004 to 2009 alone, 29,225 athletes suffered concussions. Internal emails unsealed in the lawsuit illustrate how pressure mounted on the NCAA over the issue. In a Feb. 23, 2010, email, the NCAAs director of government relations, Abe Frank, wondered whether debates about new safeguards for young children playing contact sports would crank up the pressure on the NCAA to do more. David Klossner, NCAAs then-director of health and safety, responded bluntly a few hours later: "Well since we dont currently require anything all steps are higher than ours." Later that year, the NCAA established a head-injury policy that states that athletes should be kept from play for at least a day after a concussion. It also requires each school to have a concussion management plan on hand. But plaintiffs blamed a tendency of some teams to hurry concussed players back into games, in part, on the NCAAs lax enforcement of the policy. In a 2012 deposition, asked if any schools had been disciplined for having subpar concussion plans, Klossner said, "Not to my knowledge." cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Michael Allen was prouder of the 3-under 69 he shot Saturday than his record-tying 60 the day before. A day after making the game look so easy when he was the ninth player to shoot 60 on the Champions Tour, Allen fought his swing from the opening drive at Broken Sound. He fell out of the lead after playing his first 10 holes in 1 over, but birdied four of his last eight holes to take a one-stroke lead over Scott Dunlap and Chien Soon Lu in the Allianz Championship. "This is one of those rounds I really feel good about," said Allen, who is at 15-under 129 entering the final round. " "I knew if I hung in there, eventually the birdies would start coming." Allen has a more difficult task to win for the sixth time on the 50-and-over tour. With calm, warm condition on The Old Course, the field combined for a scoring average of 69.67, the lowest in the eight-year history of the event. Allen had only one player -- Dunlap -- within four shots of his lead after the first round. Now, there are seven players within four shots entering Sundays final round. "All I did was make it a good tournament," Allen said, smiling. "At least I know what I have to do now -- be aggressive from the start." Lu shot his second straight 65, and Dunlap followed his opening 63 with a 67. Neither Allen nor Dunlap won on the PGA Tour, but Dunlap is playing in just his second Champions Tour event. "I didnt use up a lot of great golf on the PGA Tour," said Dunlap, whose best showing in 204 career PGA Tour starts was a third-place finish. "It would be nice to think that door (of winning) hasnt closed." Duffy Waldorf was fourth at 13 under after a 63. He played the front nine in 7-under 29. The Ukrainians are scheduled to face the United States in a friendly on Wednesday in Cyprus, a match moved from Kharkiv to Larnaca for security reasons. "The national team is a symbol of unity because players come from all over Ukraine," said its captain Anatoliy Tymoshchuk on a wind-swept practice pitch behind the teams hotel in the coastal resort of Ayia Napa. "Were all one big family, were all united." Speaking ahead of the teams training session on Tuesday, Tymoshchuk said the troubles at home do weigh on players minds. "Its a dangerous situation," he said. "We have our families, we worry but we hope that we can keep the peace in Ukraine as quickly as possible." Team spokesman Alexander Glyvynskyy said Wednesdays match is dedicated to the people of Ukraine under the slogan "Peace for Ukraine." "We are not ready for war," Glyvynskyy said. "We hope that we can be good neighbours (with Russia) in the future." Ukraine coach Mykhailo Fomenko said he wanted his teams performance to send a message of unity back home. "Most important is unity and concentration, its important for all Ukrainians," Fomenko said. "I told the players to play like one unit." Despite threats to cancel the match, Ukraine football association president Anatoliy Konkov said Tuesday the game would go ahead. "(We) reached a consensus to play the USA after all," Konkov said in a statement that also praised the American team. "(They) stood behind us to protect the national iinterests and territorial integrity of Ukraine.dddddddddddd." The match, which will be played at Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium, is a key warm-up for the United States ahead of this years World Cup. But for Ukraine, which failed to qualify for the tournament in Brazil, it will serve as preparation for the qualifying tournament for the 2016 European Championship. "This game is a huge opportunity, mainly for our European-based players, for those guys to prove to us that they are eager and hungry to jump on the train to the FIFA World Cup," U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. Fomenko said earlier in Kyiv that he expects Wednesdays game to be similar in style to a Premier League match, since many of the American players play for English clubs. Glyvynskyy said he expects the Americans to play an attacking game, but that Ukraine is injury-free and has all its best players available. "The players want to play on an official level and want to test their level of play after a two-month winter break," he said. He added that Cyprus was an ideal location for the match because it was relatively simple to organize at short notice and there are no problems with visa issues. Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium has hosted many of Cyprus international matches, but its not the Mediterranean islands top football venue. The GSP Stadium in Nicosia, however, is unavailable because Cyprus is hosting Northern Ireland in another friendly. Its the second time in recent weeks that Cyprus has been selected as an alternate venue for a match involving a Ukrainian team. Last month, a Europa League match between Dynamo Kyiv and Valencia was moved to the Cypriot capital. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

ZAGREB, Croatia -- Defending champion Marin Cilic of Croatia was first through to the Zagreb Indoors quarterfinals by beating Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday. Fifth-seeded Cilic converted only three out of 10 break points, two of them Lajovic double-faults. Cilic improved to a 16-1 record in his last five attempts here, winning titles in 2009, 2010 and 2013. "I served very well," Cilic said, adding "some things did not work well today and I made a bit too many unforced errors." Eight-seeded Dutchman Igor Sijsling came back from 3-1 down in the third set to defeat Blaz Kavcic from Slovenia 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4 and reach the second round. Dudi Sela of Israel ousted sixth-seeded Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-6 (2) in the first round. Sela led by a set and 5-3 before Rosol broke back and forced a tiebreaker. But Sela moved into an early lead again and closed out the match. Lucky loser Daniel Evans of Britain, who made the draw after the late withdrawal of Radek Stepanek with a heel strain, defeated another Czech, Jan Hajek, 6-3, 6-1. Russian qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov beat 2008 champion Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine 6-4, 7-6 (8) for his first tour win since July, while Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan defeated Victor Hanescu from Romania, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 7-6 (5). The result was a second-half burst with a strong push from the reserves to lead Los Angeles to a 101-81 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night. "I looked up at one point, and we were shooting like 28 per cent," Clippers forward Blake Griffin said. "Our defence was keeping us there, then we finally took the game over when we started hitting shots. Thats a good lesson for us." Reserves Darren Collison and Jamal Crawford scored 15 points each to lead the Clippers. Chris Paul also had 15 points and eight assists as Los Angeles snapped a two-game losing streak. Griffin added 14 points and nine rebounds, while DeAndre Jordan had 10 points and 14 boards. The performance was a reversal from the previous night when the Clippers lost 107-97 at Atlanta -- an effort coach Doc Rivers called "awful." Rivers credited Griffin and Jordan with stopping the Memphis frontline, particularly Zach Randolph, who was returning from missing two games after ingrown toenail surgery. "I thought those two guys fought hard down low," said Rivers, who recorded his 600th win. "I just thought their leadership defensively was why we won the game." Kosta Koufos led Memphis with 17 points, while Mike Conley had 16 on 6-for-8 shooting. Quincy Pondexter scored 15, and Randolph had 12 points and 12 rebounds, but made only four of his 13 shots. The Clippers shot 13 for 20 in the fourth quarter as Paul and Griffin sat on the bench, leaving the game to the backups. "The Clippers played real well defensively," Koufos said. "They established themselves early in the second half. They hit some tough shots." The Clippers trailed 42-40 at the break before outscoring Memphis 61-39 in the second half while shooting 56 per cent. Los Angeles reserves ended the night outscoring their Memphis counterparts 50-31. "That team has a lot of good players," Randolph said. "They have a lot oof good bench players that could be starting.ddddddddddddquot; As is the case when the two get together, it was chippy from the start. After meeting in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs the last two years, a rivalry has developed. Early in third, Jerryd Bayless shoved Griffin for a flagrant 1. Then Randolph started mouthing with anyone in a Clippers uniform. And the lobbying for calls from both teams led official Danny Crawford to warn the coaches he had heard enough complaining. In the meantime, the Clippers turned up the defence, enabling them to click off a 21-7 run to open the quarter for a double-digit lead. "I thought the way we responded was good," Griffin said. "There are challenges mentally and physically, and I think that was a mental challenge for us. We were mentally tough in that situation." The rally helped the Clipper outscore Memphis 24-11 in the frame and carry a 64-53 lead into the final quarter. Los Angeles connected on 10 of its first 14 shots in the fourth, continuing to build the lead to as many as 24. Several Clippers players said the frustration from games like the one at Atlanta is they believe in their ability to play good defence. "It would be one thing if we knew were werent capable of it, and we didnt have the bodies and the people to execute it, but we do," Paul said. "We have myself, young, athletic guys that know what were capable of. I may not be athletic, but I am young." NOTES: The road team has won the last five games in the series. Beijing, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning champion and three-time overall titlist Novak Djokovic and red-hot superstar Rafael Nadal were a pair of quarterfinal winners Friday at the $2.315 million China Open. The top-seeded world No. 1 Djokovic cut down 6-foot-6 American Sam Querrey 6-1, 6-2 in a mere 52 minutes, while the second-seeded former No. 1 Nadal came from behind to beat pesky Italian Fabio Fognini 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 on the hardcourts at the National Tennis Center. Nadal was one point away from trailing Fognini 2-6, 1-5 on Day 5 before mounting a dramatic comeback. The U.S. and French Open champion Nadal would supplant Djokovic atop the mens rankings with a victory over Tomas Berdych here on Saturday. The super Spaniard already owns a whopping 10 titles on tour this year and is currently riding a 20-match winning streak. "Its something that doesnt create more pressure for me," Nadal said. "Its something that already happened in the past. If that happens again, it will be good, it will be special for me, but well see. "I am going to have a very tough opponent in front of me. In the end, its another match. True, its a little bit more special for the circumstances, but nothing else. Its the semi-final match of a big tournament, I am going to try to be competitive and try to play my best tennis. If not, I am going to have no chance to be through. It is not the moment to think about No. 1; it is the moment to think about Berdych." Nadal is a dominant 15-3 lifetime against Berdych, who lost to the mighty Spaniard in the 2010 Wimbledon final. Nadal is 3-0 versus the Czech slugger this season. The 13-time Grand Slam champion Nadal, who was the China Open champ back in 2005, was last ranked No. 1 in July of 2011. The Australian Open titlist Djokovics opponent in Saturdays semifinals will be fifth-seeded U.S. Open semifinalist Richard Gasquet. Fridays other quarters saw Gasquet upend third-seeded French Open runner-up David Ferrer 6-3, 6-4 and a fourth-seeded Berdych top eighth-seeded American John Isner 7-5, 6-2. The 2011 China Open champion Berdych was a runner-up in Bangkok last week. Ferrer was the 2010 Beijing runner-up to Djokovic. The 2013 China Open titlist will earn $557,100. The mixed martial arts star never takes a step back, always looking for an edge, be it working with elite gymnasts or sprinters. But St-Pierres biggest strength is also his biggest weakness. "Im completely obsessed," he said of the way he approaches each fight. When a grain of doubt enters his mind, the beast in the gym becomes brittle. And on Friday, a shopping list of distractions finally took their toll on one of Canadas most famous athletes. Citing the pressures of being champion and of being in a constant limelight, St-Pierre said his life has become "completely insane" and a "freaking zoo." Admitting he was no longer up for the rigours of fighting in a cage, the UFCs pay-per-view king vacated his welterweight title and announced a hiatus from the sport. St-Pierre (25-2) also cited personal issues, which he declined to detail. But clearly they have obscured his obsessive focus in a sport whose athletes spend months preparing for fights. "Physically Im 100 per cent, Im still young, Im on top of the world," the 32-year-old from Montreal told a media conference call. "But mentally I just feel like I cannot go through another training camp right now and I dont know when I will be able to." UFC president Dana White said No. 1 contender Johny (Bigg Rigg) Hendricks will fight No. 3 (Ruthless) Robbie Lawler for the title on March 15 in Dallas. "I think this is the right move for Georges St-Pierre," said White. "You can hear by listening to him hes got a lot of issues personally that he needs to deal with." St-Pierre had cast doubt about his future last month following UFC 167, a controversial split decision win over Hendricks, when he said he needed time away from the sport to sort out some personal issues. That enraged White, who did not like the idea of one of his biggest assets walking away -- especially in the aftermath of a controversial decision. But White calmed down after talking to St-Pierre later that night. And on Friday, he continued to downplay the drama. "At the end of the day, its really not that big of a deal. The guys got some things that he needs to deal with. He was classy enough to say Im not going to jam up the 170-pound division while I deal with these things, Im going to step aside and handle myself and then Ill be back." In the wake of the Hendricks fight, a TMZ report said the champion was dealing with a family illness and a personal issue. White later told The Canadian Press that St-Pierre had told him the report was not true. St-Pierre loosened up during Fridays call, joking with reporters that they were not going to get anything personal from him. "Im going to take a break. I need this," he said Friday. "I need to have a normal life for a bit. Ill feel better and come back stronger." Having a normal life was a theme repeated throughout the conference call. Asked what he wants to get away from, St-Pierre said he loves his sport. "As much as I choose to do it, now I choose to not do it." He said he expects to be back, although he sounded far from certain. "I dont know when, I dont know if, I think I will (be back) I cant say 100 per cent. But right now I just dont want people thinking about me." Press tours, cameras and trash-talking were some of the things he said he needed to avoid. St-Pierre was somewhat vague about a comeback. "I believe one day I will come back. The problem is I dont know how long (I will be away)." He said he has already conquered Everest three times before, when he lost to Matt Hughes (in 2004) and Matt (The Terror) Serra (in 2007) and when he came back (in 2012) from knee surgery. "And if I have to do a fourth time, believe me, I feel like Im, going to do it." White, who explained GSPs UFC contract was considered frozen, said he believed St-Pierre will be back. St-Pierre exits ranked second to light-heavyweight champion Jon (Bones) Jones in the UFCs pound-for-pound rankings. White called St-Pierre "the greatest welterweight ever" and "the gold standard in everything." "And as far as working with us, theres nobody better. If I had 475 guys like Georges St-Pierre, my life would be a lot easier." A gentleman outside the cage who shares little of his personal life, St-Pierre has always taken his responsibilities seriously. In 2008, he missed an interview session with a visiting reporter who was left standing outside a Montreal gym. His manager at the time advised that St-Pierre haad suffered a minor injury earlier in the day and had forgotten about his interview with the reporter.dddddddddddd The journalist told the manager not to worry, given they had already had a previously scheduled appointment for the next day. St-Pierre, however, had a different idea. He drove to the gym to collect the reporter and took him out for dinner to do the interview. Then he drove the reporter to his hotel, apologizing again for having been late. While other fighters wore T-shirts and sweats, St-Pierre -- taking a page from some champion boxers -- always wore a suit for his post-fight news conferences. St-Pierre, who said he will keep training, has no need to fight again. He has made millions and made a point of looking after his family when the cheques started coming in. One of his first duties as champion was to pay off the mortgages of his parents and sisters. The UFC is wasting no time getting round to the post-GSP era. Carlos Condit is currently ranked No. 2 among welterweight contenders but he has lost to both St-Pierre and Hendricks. And White noted that Lawler just beat Canadian contender and GSP training partner Rory (Ares) MacDonald. "Not to mention the fact that theres not doubt that the Robbie Lawler-Johny Hendricks fight is going to be an absolute gunfight." White said Condit may also be on the Dallas card. Condit was previously due to fight Matt (The Immortal) Brown until Brown was sidelined by a back injury. As champion, St-Pierre has worn a target on his back since he first won the title in 2006. "The situation Im at, its a lot of pressure," he said. "Its like every fight Im carrying weight on my shoulder. Every fight, its like you add weight on your shoulder. Every fight. "At one point it comes so heavy that I have a hard time carrying it myself." St-Pierre has survived turmoil throughout his career. He lost his championship belt in his first title defence before winning it back. And he has endured a string of injuries, including knee reconstruction surgery in December 2011. That prompted the UFC to pit Condit against Nick Diaz for the interim title. Condit won but was beaten by St-Pierre when the champion returned to action at UFC 154 in November 2012. St-Pierre was the first Canadian to hold a UFC title since Carlos (Ronin) Newton, who held the welterweight crown for seven months in 2001 before losing it to Matt Hughes. St-Pierre lost to Hughes, now a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, in a title bout at UFC 50 in 2004 but won the rematch at UFC 65 in November 2006 to claim the championship belt. His initial reign at champion was short-lived. Beset by family illness and lacking focus, GSP was upset by Matt (The Terror) Serra in his first title defence at UFC 69 in April 2007. GSP fights as he prepares. A good camp equals a good performance. He paid a heavy price for a bad one. St-Pierre retooled, changing his management and revamping his coaching staff. "I truly believe that this loss is probably the best thing that ever happened to me," he said at the time. At the suggestion of a sports psychologist, he carried a brick around with Serras name inscribed on it. Then he threw it in the chilly waters of Montreals South Shore to bury the memory of the Serra loss. St-Pierre has not lost since. He won his title back from Serra three fights later in commanding fashion, at UFC 83 in Montreal in April 2008. The decision over Hendricks was a record 19th win in the UFC for St-Pierre, moving him past Hughes at 18. It also extended his string of victories to 12, the longest current run in the UFC. The Hendricks victory also moved GSP past former middleweight champion Anderson Silva for most wins in UFC title bouts at 12. St-Pierre holds the record for career fight time in the UFC at five hours 28 minutes 12 seconds. He also owns the UFC mark for most championship rounds fought (52). UFC 167 was St-Pierres 14th championship fight, one behind Randy Couture. St-Pierre also leads the UFC records in total strikes landed, significant strikes landed, takedowns landed and takedown accuracy rate, according to FightMetric. "Im content," he said of his legacy. St-Pierre is not the first UFC champion to give up their title. Tim Sylvia voluntarily gave up the heavyweight championship belt in 2003 when he tested positive for steroids, which was a pre-emptive strike to being stripped. Bas Rutten gave up his heavyweight title in 1999 to campaign as a light-heavyweight. Injuries forced him to retire soon after. Frank Shamrock voluntarily vacated his title in 1999 and retired, although he later returned to action outside the UFC. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

BOSTON -- An early morning return after an emotional win in Miami, followed by an overtime victory against a well-rested Atlanta team. Nothing seems to stop the charging Boston Celtics lately. Paul Pierce overcame a miserable shooting game with a key jumper in overtime and Rajon Rondo finished with a triple-double with 20 assists, 10 points and 10 rebounds to lift the surging Celtics to an 88-86 win over the Hawks on Wednesday night. Coming off an eight-point win over the Heat one night earlier and facing the Hawks, who hadnt played since winning Saturday night, the Celtics knew how tired they were. Turns out, they had a pull out a win after Kevin Garnett fouled out in OT. "I gotta tell you guys: that was the worst game weve ever won," Boston coach Doc Rivers said. "I mean we didnt play well. We just kept hanging in there. You could see the fatigue." Garnett had 22 points and grabbed 12 boards before fouling out with just under 3 minutes left in OT, and Brandon Bass, who also hit a jumper in OT, scored 21 points. It was Rondos 19th straight game with double digits in assists. "We kept fighting regardless of the other stuff out there. We stuck together, followed through and got the win," said Rondo, who played 87 minutes of 101 total minutes the last two nights. With the victory, Boston moved into a three-way tie with Atlanta and Orlando for the Eastern Conferences fourth-best record. The Celtics remained three ahead of Philadelphia atop the Atlantic Division. Jeff Teague led the Hawks with 21 points and Josh Smith had 20 with 11 rebounds. The Hawks had won eight of 11 since losing to Boston at home on March 19. "Its twice now weve played this Boston team and the game has come down to the final few seconds of the game and we didnt make the plays," Atlanta coach Larry Drew said. "We have to learn from it and, more importantly, we need to move on from it." It was the Celtics 11th win in 14 games. Pierce finished with 14 points. "We had plenty of chances to win this game, but its neither here nor there," Hawks forward Joe Johnson said, "they pulled it out." Bass and Pierce hit jumpers, giving Boston an 88-84 lead early in the OT, but the Hawks sliced it to a one possession game on Kirk Hinrichs open jumper. The teams traded turnovers over the next 2 minutes -- with the Hawks Smith getting picked cleanly by Pierce with 30 seconds to play, but the Celtics captain was called for an offensive foul on the other end with 10.1 seconds to go. Smith front-rimmed a 3 and Boston gained possession after a battle for the rebound went out of bounds off a Hawks player in front of Bostons bench with 1.3 seconds left. Boston inbounded the ball to Rondo, who fired it in the air as the horn sounded. Pierce, just 6 of 19 from the floor, raised his arms in triumph. "It just shows we have great character. Tough-minded group," Rivers said. In a back and forth fourth quarter during which the teams traded the lead five times, Boston went up 82-81 on Garnetts jumper from the top of the key with 1:26 to go, but Zaza Pachulia hit one of two free throws on the Hawks next possession, tying it with 74 seconds left. Bass then hit a short jumper in the lane and the Hawks tied it again on Johnsons jumper with 47 seconds to play. Pierce, who struggled from the floor all night, missed a 3 but Garnett grabbed the rebound. After Bostons time-out, Garnett was forced to take a long fadeaway that missed the rim badly and the 24-second shot expired during a scramble for the rebound. Teague front-rimmed a long jumper as the horn sounded, sending the game to OT. Boston opened an 80-76 lead on Garnetts 3-point play when he drove around Pachulia for a reverse layup and was fouled, hitting the free throw to cap a 7-0 spree with 4:04 to play. The Hawks then retied it on Teagues jumper from the left wing a minute later after Johnson hit two free throws. NOTES: Boston guard Ray Allen was sidelined by a sore right ankle that had him out a few weeks ago. He had played the last five games after being sidelined six by the troublesome ankle. ... The teams final regular season meeting is on April 20 at Atlanta. ... Boston returned in the early morning hours after a 115-107 win at Miami on Tuesday. ... Mickael Pietrus, back in action after he suffered a concussion in a loss at Philadelphia on March 23 when he took a hard fall to the floor after he collided with Lou Williams and had to be taken off on a stretcher, gave Boston a spark off the bench with five fourth-quarter points. He played nearly 29 minutes. "I felt great," he said. "I was just trying to give my energy because I knew they would need my energy." Rod Streater Raiders Jersey . SEATTLE - After getting himself in a two-strike hole, Raul Ibanez did everything he could to stay in the at-bat against John Danks. For a dozen pitches, Ibanez hung in there. On the 13th pitch he won the struggle, hitting his 10th homer for the decisive runs in the Seattle Mariners 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night. "At that point you just forget about the count, you forget about everything thats happening," Ibanez said. "At one point in the box, I said, I think thats 3-2. Then I said to myself, It doesnt matter. At this point, it doesnt matter. Youre just fighting." After swinging and missing at the first two pitches he saw in the third inning, Ibanez fouled off the next three before taking a ball. He fouled off four more before hitting the 13th pitch into the right-field seats for a two-run shot. According to the team, it was the most pitches a Mariners hitter had seen before homering since at least 1988. "I just ran out of ideas," Danks said. "We threw hard away, soft away, hard in, soft in. I thought I had him looking in, and threw a cutter away and it was up a little more than I like." The White Sox have lost seven straight games, their longest slide since dropping seven in a row in September 2011. Chicago had won its previous eight games in Seattle, but even the formerly friendly venue and a starting pitcher with a history of success against the Mariners couldnt stop the losing streak. Danks (0-2) allowed four runs — three earned — and seven hits in six innings, striking out five and walking one in his third start of the year. The defeat snapped Danks seven-game winning streak against the Mariners — in his last eight starts against Seattle, he was 7-0 with a 1.31 ERA. Seattle starter Joe Saunders (4-5) returned to his winning ways at Safeco Field , allowing one run and five hits in 6 1-3 innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Saunders is 10-1 at the Mariners ballpark. The lone loss came in his previous home start against Texas on May 24, when he gave up eight runs in five innings. "First and foremost, its nice to get a win to start off a series," Saunders said. "Weve been kind of struggling of late." The Mariners snapped their own two-game skid. Tom Wilhelmsen, who had blown three of his last four save opportunities, gave up a two-out RBI single to Adam Dunn in the ninth but earned his 13th save. "Its nice for once to see things go the right way in the ninth," Wilhelmsen said. Wilhelmsen walked Alex Rios leading off the inning but regrouped to strike out the next two batters before Dunns hit. "You cant try too hard, or youre going to overthrow and walk people like Ive been," Wilhelmsen said. "Just relax and know youve done it before, and just try to stick with that. That was something I told myself today." In the third inning, Kyle Seager beat out a bunt single and Kendrys Morales drove him home with a double off the centre-field wall before Ibanez capped the inning with his long at-bat and home run. "That was one of the best at-bats Ive ever seen up there," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said. "Left on left, him fighting through so many different pitches, fouling them off, tough pitches — neither guy was giving in. For Raul to get him in the end there, that was pretty special." Chicago opened the scoring in the second. Dayan Viciedo hit a bloop double to centre and scored on Jeff Keppingers single. Seattle answered in the bottom half when Jesus Sucres RBI single tied it at 1. NOTES: White Sox bench coach Mark Parent was ejected by plate umpire Dale Scott in the seventh. ... The Mariners held a short, closed-door team meeting before taking batting practice. "I just wanted to talk about where were at," Wedge said. "Weve had a lot of tough losses these first couple months, more so than Ive seen, and Im proud of the way theyve handled it." ... Seattle OF Franklin Gutierrez (right hamstring strain) ended his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma, but remains on the disabled list. Mariners head athletic trainer Rick Griffin said Gutierrez still has lingering hamstring issues, and the Mariners plan to put him on another rehab assignment. ... Iceland overcame the second-half sending-off of Olafur Skulason to hold on for a 0-0 draw against Croatia in the first leg of their World Cup playoff on Friday, keeping the tiny Nordic nation in contention for a place at a first major tournament. After a tight first half, the Croatians took command in Reykjavik after Skulason was dismissed for a professional foul in the 51st minute, but couldnt find a way past Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson and his packed defence. Eduardo had a weak shot cleared away from near the goalline after barely a minute for Croatia, whose substitute Ivica Olic forced a fine reaction save from Halldorsson in the 55th. The second leg is in Zagreb on Tuesday, with Iceland -- with a population of around 320,000 -- looking to become the least populous country to play at a World Cup. Markov scored in the sixth round of the shootout, Dustin Tokarski stopped 39 shots to win his Montreal debut, and the Canadiens beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 Wednesday night for their sixth victory in eight games. Brendan Gallagher had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens, tying it late in the second period. Max Pacioretty got his 30th goal and captain Brian Gionta also scored in a big victory over the overall NHL leaders before the arrival of new acquisition Thomas Vanek. "We knew we were going to play against the best team in the league, and they especially play great at home," Markov said. "So we just tried to stick to the game plan and our system and do our job. That goal we got (from Gallagher) late in the second period helped us to stay in the game. Everybody played hard, and our goalie played unbelievable. He made great saves and was really in the game." But Tokarski and the Canadiens earned that second standings point by the slimmest of margins. After a scoreless third period and overtime, Palmieri thought he had scored for Anaheim in the fifth round. The officials called it a goal on the ice, but reversed the ruling on video review. Tokarski also thought Palmieri had scored, but was grateful to see the replay. "You get some breaks once in a while, I guess," he said. Montreal got a surprising effort from fill-in starter Tokarski, who made several sharp saves while earning his second career victory in his eighth NHL appearance. Tokarski was recalled after the Olympic break to back up Peter Budaj while injured gold medallist Carey Price is out. "I dont know them very much, but theyre a heck of a team that has some All-Star players," Tokarski said of the Ducks. "I just knew I had to take it as any other game and use what I got to get here." The AHL veteran also shook off a regrettable goal when Beauchemins dump-in pass took a weird bounce and went into his open net while he waited behind it for the puck. "I made an error," Tokarski said. "I should have stayed in my net. The scouting report was that there was bad glass here, so it was a lapse of judgment there. But the guys battled and got the tying goal before the period was over." Tim&nbbsp;Jackman, Francois Beauchemin and Daniel Winnik scored early goals for Anaheim, which had won three straight.dddddddddddd Jonas Hiller made 27 saves in the first loss since the Olympic break for the Ducks, who lamented a slow start. "The first 10 minutes, everybody was still thinking about every trade that went on today," Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. "They werent preparing the proper way ... and we had to battle to get even." Both playoff-bound teams late-season acquisitions hadnt yet joined them at Honda Center. The Ducks made no major moves on the trade deadline, but acquired injured defenceman Stephane Robidas one day earlier. Montreal made one of the deadlines biggest acquisitions by snagging Vanek, the Austrian goal-scorer. Vanek will become the Canadiens top scorer when he suits up, likely for Thursdays game in Phoenix. Montreal went up 2-0 in the first period when Pacioretty then converted a cross-ice pass from David Desharnais, but the Ducks rallied in the second period with two goals 1:59 apart. Jackman scored on a smart tip of Sbisas long shot, and Beauchemin tied it with that fluke power-play goal into Tokarskis vacated net. "It was about time it happened to somebody else," Hiller said with a laugh. "I always get those bounces. ... We should definitely improve the power play if thats the only way we can score goals." Anaheim went ahead on Winniks midair swat of Matt Beleskeys shot for just his third goal of a hardworking season, but Gallagher evened it when the Ducks couldnt clear a loose puck in front of Hiller. Late in the first period, the Honda Center paid tribute to Montreal forward George Parros with a video tribute and a standing ovation for the longtime Anaheim enforcer. The mustachioed brawler with an economics degree from Princeton and a clothing company in nearby Costa Mesa played six seasons for the Ducks before leaving as a free agent in 2012. Parros, still the Anaheim franchise leader with 812 penalty minutes, acknowledged the cheers by waving and pounding his chest above his heart.
