Minnesota Wild 2 Winnipeg Jets 1 – The loss snapped the Jets win streak at four, and dropped their road record to 3-5-1. Eight of the nine road games have been decided by one goal. The Jets got off to a slow start and were outshot 9-2 in the first period but were only down 1-0. Mikko Koivu had the only goal. Jets got going in the second and outshot the Wild 14-8 but could not beat Josh Harding. The best chance was a blast from Dustin Byfuglien from the edge of the circle that Harding made a glove save on. Blake Wheeler had a career-tying five shots on goal in the second. The Jets tied the game just 54 seconds into the third on a goal that initially was credited to Bryan Little, but later changed to Byfuglien. It was his fourth goal in the past four games. Wheeler drew an assist. Ondrej Pavelec made a number of big saves throughout the game and it looked as though these two teams were bound for overtime. The last three Jets games were decided by a shootout, while three of the last four games for the Wild have gone to overtime. However, a faceoff after an icing call, the Wilds top line connected for the game winner for the second time in as many games. Friday against Florida it was Charlie Coyle with the winner in the third, in this game Coyle set up Koivu for his second of the night. The goal coming at 16:48 of the third. Sandusky, 69, is serving a 30- to 60-year prison sentence at a state prison in Pennsylvania. If he does not get the convictions overturned, he is likely to die in prison. Wednesdays unanimous decision by a three-judge Superior Court panel came barely two weeks after they heard oral arguments by Sanduskys lawyer and a state prosecutor. Defence lawyer Norris Gelman said he planned to ask the state Supreme Court to review the case. Sandusky had argued his trial lawyers did not have sufficient time to prepare, a prosecutor made improper references to him not testifying on his own behalf and the judge mishandled two jury instructions. The opinion by Judge Jack Panella said trial judges have discretion about whether to allow pretrial delays, and that in Sanduskys case the judge carefully considered the continuance requests. "The decision does not reflecct a myopic insistence upon expeditiousness in the face of Sanduskys request; it was not an arbitrary denial," Panella wrote.dddddddddddd Sandusky had wanted the trial judge, John Cleland, to give jurors an instruction about the amount of time it took for nearly all of the victims to report their allegations. Panella wrote that Cleland should have evaluated the need for such a jury instruction based on each victims age and maturity, but Clelands failure to do so did not harm Sandusky. "The trial court specifically instructed the jury that they were to consider any possible motives of the victims in coming forward," Panella wrote. "The vigorous cross-examination of the victims and arguments by defence counsel, when combined with the trial courts instructions on credibility, clearly defined the issues for the jury." The issue related to Sandusky not testifying was not properly preserved for appeals court review, Panella wrote. The appeals court also turned down another jury instruction claim, related to weighing a defendants good character against the allegations.
